Re: J! in the Media

Former champ Tom Nichols in The Atlantic: It Might Be Time to Retire 'Jeopardy' I pretty much agree with what he's written. Stephen Curry has mastered the 3-pointer and inspired a generation to play the game differently. Interest is at an all-time high. Let us cancel basketball. It's the only way. ...

Re: Friday, January 7, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Sean wasn't tittering. He was teetering. Rocking from side to side. He was teeter-tittering, I guess. Little giggles here and there. But, yes, I noticed the rocking back and forth, like a metronome. Seems like about one person a week does that. During the interview, he was also almost in profile. B...

Re: Friday, January 7, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This is just plain embarrassing. They need to put someone up to beat her. It was obvious within the first few clues of Jeopardy round that those Challengers didn't have it. Why was Sean teetering constantly? It's tough when you see someone who doesn't seem to be taking the game seriously. My wife p...

Re: J! in the Media

Matt and Amy are clearly exceptional players - I think they'd have a good chance at reaching and winning the ToC any year. However, the dominance - the percentage of runaways... I think it's the casting. Too many shows are over as soon as the first DD is found. I don't think the clues are noticeably...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

Neither Lisa nor the reporter come off looking good, but a headline that implies that Oz used vulgar or misogynistic language in describing the reporter is misleading, so the media comes off looking the worst, IMO. Media no longer exists to report or inform the public or practice journalism in an e...

The 700 was instant, but I couldn't get "Lusitania" out of my head, and I knew that wasn't it. It was "yeah, that one" when Joanna revealed her answer. I would have had the humiliating "What is ?" Hopefully I wouldn't have indulged taking the time to write "What is...

The Dr. Oz Show Will No Longer Air on the Station that Airs Jeopardy! in Cleveland Since that's our area, I'll point out that Jeopardy! airs on the local CBS station. The Fox station is VHF, so most people can't even get it over the air, but cable companies still carry it. Glad he didn't get the gi...

It could be solved by doing away with the stunt-casting. It's beginning to feel like Wheel out there, though Tuesday's show had decent competitors.

Re: Stories From Bar Trivia Night

My wife and I used to play bar trivia every week. Now, all the games use some form of cell phone submission forms instead of paper slips, so it's one big cheat-fest.

Re: How Did Aaron Rodgers Do as Host?

Somewhere along the line (within a nanosecond of Trump's first press conference, undoubtedly), COVID became a deeply-dividing political issue. Vaccination has become even worse. People throw around the term "science" as if it's some sort of religious experience. They make assertions based ...

Re: Thursday, November 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I sure leapt for the South Africa answer... even felt good about it. Didn't like the corrections because an answer had already been accepted in the wrong form - a reminder with the first miss would have prevented the more expensive one. It's nice to see a couple of games now with three very good com...

I’ve thought a lot about the casting process and I’m no closer to understanding what TPTB are looking for in the auditions. (clicking the 'like' button) We've had many a subthread on this topic, but we can get back into it for newcomers or those who want the refresher course... In what I think is a...

Was trying out a new DVR setup. Spoilered by Sony's spam, of all things. I guess they want to discourage DVR use. Haven't auto-spammed it because I don't want to miss an invitation to try out.

TS on my home town. Don't know if it seemed so obvious since the founding story was drummed into us in grade school, though it was never clear that the founders actually named the town after their wives.

Went with More on the final - only three years off, and 1513 was long before The Prince's publication date. Not that I knew those details - just trying to hit on something political that didn't sound related to the more famous work at around that time period. On the wrong track there.

Re: Friday, September 17, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had trouble parsing the clue. For a while I thought it was saying the man, rather than the party, was named after the U.K. political party. Once I parsed the clue correctly, the correct response was clear. Clearer wording would have been, "The U.S. Whig Party, which was named after a U.K. po...

Not that judging celebrities is worth the amount of time it's taking me to type this post, but he strikes me as someone who puts a lot into everything he does. I didn't think he was right for Jeopardy, but even though I haven't seen Reading Rainbow I think a lot of his work on other shows.

Also, Disney rehired James Gunn The only difference between Mike Richards and James Gunn is that James Gunn is awesome Yeah, I think that about covers why so many in Hollywood stood up for him and Disney rehired him. ... Since I've cut the cord and have no interest in getting 500 channels I'll never watch, the options are either to spend about $1,000 for a rooftop antenna that our neighborhood (and really, us as well) would hate or something specific with streaming. For now, it's Locast , but the legality of th...
