Re: Thursday, July 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Because results oriented people will undoubtedly say Roey should have wagered $1, let's just get ahead of it. No, he shouldn't have. Not necessarily. We've run the numbers and there's really no wrong decision between wagering $0 and $1. So it can turn into category dependent. Have a link to this? M...

Re: Wednesday, July 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Oh no worries man, I totally understand why you did that, I just found it to be pretty funny. I'd much rather people bet $4,000 consistently on DD's then make wimpy bets like $1,000 or less on them anyway. After James's amazing run I've been spoiled by all the gutsy wagers, but I still understand w...

Re: 2019 TOC Updates

So Dave Leffler is out of contention? That sucks. Would he have been in the 2019 ToC had Emma not been invited or was that going to be Ryan regardless? If they hadn't done the early cutoff to include Emma, Leffler would have missed the cut; he would have already been surpassed by Ryan and Sam. Incl...

Roey had 4000s across the board for all 3 DD wagers
Perhaps he's Sarah McNitt's son?

Re: 2019 TOC Updates

Can I also just say: Looking at it from your own perspectives, what on earth would it do to your ToC preparation in the back of your head if all people were doing was talking about how you got invited and possibly even calling your ethics into question? I'm incredibly disappointed in many people in...

Re: 2019 TOC Updates

This is disappointing, hasn't the ToC always been a pure meritocracy? I don't remember Nancy Zerg appearing. I am reminded of Michelle Wie continually getting sponsor's exemptions into PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour events as a teenager. Taking a spot from a much more deserving player who actually cou...

Re: Monday, June 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Unfortunately we are back to the pre James school of wagering where a poor wager costs a contestant over $30k.

Perhaps it was me but the show's flow seemed to be disjointed today.

Re: Quick Rules Q

Sounds like you are (the former, I mean). The paperwork has nothing of the ins and outs of a game of Jeopardy. If you are on a show and you choose to ignore these instructions, well that's a you problem. I find it interesting that both people you chose to lecture about supposedly not reading the ru...

It's the name of a golf course/street in Leawood, Kansas. I used to deliver mail in that neighborhood and loved the name.

Railroad theme as well, decent track.

Re: Quick Rules Q

I would think it would be the same tie-breaker rule as used to determine who gets $1000 and who gets $2000 if they tie before and after the final. I don't know the exact wording of the rule, but I think it's something like whoever gave the most recent correct answer is considered to be ahead (or ma...

Re: Wednesday, June 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So, did you ever have the good fortune to stumble into an after hours Fort Worth bar and find Van Cliburn tickling the ivories? Now that would be surreal (these days perhaps the most overused adjective for all things)! Sadly I did not. But in those days it certainly wasn't for lack of being in a ba...

Re: Wednesday, June 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Unfortunately, she didn't know Van Cliburn. (I did, but I'm a classical geek.) I've been lucky enough to attend the finals and see the winner perform. Both the music and the venue are amazing. If you ever have the chance, attend. It's only held every four years. The early rounds are worth seeing as...

Re: Wednesday, June 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

$3,000 is virtually never a good DD wager. I cut Emma some slack the first time she did it, as I know very well how much the excitement of the situation she was in can mess with your brain. But the second offense deserves a citation. Incidentally, my rule of thumb of "at least 5,000" is holding up ...

Re: Tuesday, June 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For those of you who missed it, here's Emma's awesome reaction to the suggestion that she's copying James's moves: Loved it. She also shunned Alex's comments on her chances going into yesterday's game against James. Liz gave a wrong answer and Alex let her get away with it. Was personally sad to se...

Strange bet by James. Through the 32 game run he leaves $49,978 on the table going into a locked FJ.
This game he decides to secure second place for the extra $1,000 more than 3rd place?

WOW! Nothing like going down without a fight!
I am speechless.

Unless I can't see the sarcasm sign.

There's no sound theory saying that the third should not wager everything.
Huh?

His only chance to win is to hope both competitors miss and 2nd wagers poorly. It doesn't matter whether he answers correctly or not so long as he doesn't wager more than $4600. Which he did.

Re: Monday, June 3, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Anyways, I get that in theory, he made the right wager, and also in practice it was the right wager, but I have a question for the vikings: could a wager of $11,399 (to stay above Jay's DJ score) or even $7,799 (to stay above Jay's score if he wagers at most $4,600 which is the right move for him) ...

Re: Monday, June 3, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

What a well played game by all three. Emma did what she should on the early DD in DJ, it was a 2nd row clue which should always be an auto wager everything almost regardless of circumstance. Of course against James it's also an automatic. But, on the 2nd DD, she went small. Now it was a bottom row c...
