Re: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Frustrating to watch. None of the three had any idea how to win this game.

BIBLICAL ANYTHING is a FJ category where my wager is ZERO no matter what the scores tell me to do
You are 2nd place with $15,000, leader $30,000, third $1,000.

Re: Thursday, July 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, I guess we had to see it one more time before season's end: a dumbass all-in wager from third place loses a game she could have won. And surely you know an all-in bet from the leader is never, ever gonna happen. If you are in 2nd place in this game, what would you wager? Then perhaps re-think...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I felt like in the mock game that I either didn’t have my timing down or the other two players were that good (probably a little of both) as there were plenty of times I could have sworn I was in first but wasn’t. I mean, I know it was practice and all, but still, I wanted to ring in first. :D In t...

Of course, I may be wrong in assuming that the first two rounds are included in determining potential winnings.
I wonder if anybody has seen these rules in a TOC rulebook?
Only the two game finals count towards potential winnings.

And everything on the internet is true.

Bonjour.

But just for fun, please explain in detail how a contestant would not win with a two game total of over 250k.

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I am truly of the belief that the audition selection is not actually random, as they allege. I actually think it's just the opposite. If you look at the numbers reported over the last 10 years or so of reports from auditioners, it's probably 2 to 1 males. But then the ratio is 50/50 on the show its...

Re: Thursday, July 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Assume Player 1 has twice the score of Player 2 and both contestants independently have a 50% chance to answer FJ correctly and Player 2 wagers everything. If Player 1 bets $1 they win in RR/RW/WW (75% to win) and lose on WR (25% to lose) - they have a 75% chance to win. If Player 1 bets $0 they wi...

It's more a guideline than a rule.
OK, prior to this, how many times over the last 35 years have TPTB gone against the standard metrics the viewing public have used for the ToC?

Re: Thursday, July 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

do you play poker? just wondering because i have seen you use poker terminology on several occasions in here I did full time for a few years. People were giving money away online, figured I may as well scoop it up. While profitable, it was never overly fulfilling nor healthy for me however. And the...

Re: Thursday, July 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Because results oriented people will undoubtedly say Roey should have wagered $1, let's just get ahead of it. No, he shouldn't have. Not necessarily. We've run the numbers and there's really no wrong decision between wagering $0 and $1. So it can turn into category dependent. Have a link to this? M...

Re: Wednesday, July 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Oh no worries man, I totally understand why you did that, I just found it to be pretty funny. I'd much rather people bet $4,000 consistently on DD's then make wimpy bets like $1,000 or less on them anyway. After James's amazing run I've been spoiled by all the gutsy wagers, but I still understand w...

Re: 2019 TOC Updates

So Dave Leffler is out of contention? That sucks. Would he have been in the 2019 ToC had Emma not been invited or was that going to be Ryan regardless? If they hadn't done the early cutoff to include Emma, Leffler would have missed the cut; he would have already been surpassed by Ryan and Sam. Incl...

Re: 2019 TOC Updates

Can I also just say: Looking at it from your own perspectives, what on earth would it do to your ToC preparation in the back of your head if all people were doing was talking about how you got invited and possibly even calling your ethics into question? I'm incredibly disappointed in many people in...

Re: 2019 TOC Updates

This is disappointing, hasn't the ToC always been a pure meritocracy? I don't remember Nancy Zerg appearing. I am reminded of Michelle Wie continually getting sponsor's exemptions into PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour events as a teenager. Taking a spot from a much more deserving player who actually cou...

Re: Monday, June 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Unfortunately we are back to the pre James school of wagering where a poor wager costs a contestant over $30k.

Perhaps it was me but the show's flow seemed to be disjointed today.

Re: Quick Rules Q

Sounds like you are (the former, I mean). The paperwork has nothing of the ins and outs of a game of Jeopardy. If you are on a show and you choose to ignore these instructions, well that's a you problem. I find it interesting that both people you chose to lecture about supposedly not reading the ru...
