That's the answer! The next Zoom audition I'm going to wear nothing but a Speedo! That'll make an impression.

Re: Thursday, May 19, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
16200 to 10600 on the last clue DD30. Let's ignore everybody doing their best to not find that DD. Important numbers, 10800 for the 2/3rds, 8100 for the lock tie. So 200+ correct gets you within 2/3rds, 1500- keeps you in the game. So a wager from 201-1499 has a definite upside with zero down...

Re: Reflections on the Box Score Era: On Buzzer Speed and Depth of Knowledge
Knowledge is relatively constant, buzzer timing is not. One with superior knowledge always has a chance to win because they can pick off high dollar clues with no competition. Without superior knowledge one is fighting for lower dollar clues against most likely both players instead of one or none. A...

Opus, you are correct that if he hates the category it changes things. But here’s why I don’t think that’s the case. His predicament is that he can’t wager an amount that guards against a zero bet from the lead while also locking out 3rd. Both wagers do allow him to go ahead of the leader on a WW as...

Was Jason sleeping in the sequestered audience area during the previous game? He saw the champ under wager and give 2nd the opportunity to win. Did Jason learn from this? Of course not. Inexcusable.

Re: Monday, May 16, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Taking the SAT in 7th grade as part of a "talent search" never would have struck me as a J! interview story, because I would have assumed a lot of other contestants had that in their past. (I was in Florida, so I did it via Duke... and ended up attending their summer residential program f...

Re: Monday, May 16, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Who exactly calls it the St. Louis Arch? This Missouri native says nobody within the state would. I don’t remember hearing anybody refer to it that way regardless of where they’re from. The proper name is Gateway Arch, at first glance I’d rule St. Louis Arch wrong. Would Seattle Needle be correct f...

I was thinking senior in high school/college for satisfying the occupational part of the clue. Student is an option when filling out taxes or similar under occupation.
Not a slam dunk no, but perhaps pushing the envelope. Just curious.

Growing up my Mom listened to Camelot on both 8-track and cassette. It's burned into my memory whether I want it there or not.

Always like reading detailed accounts of the journey. As said, absolutely no surprise he won.
All those prep details but I didn’t see any mention of wagering strategy. I must have skimmed by it. Or maybe he’ll post about that prep later on.

Re: Thursday, May 5, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
We know that DD’s are not randomly assigned, rather hand picked by a human. The reason Watson always chose 1,4 was because he was programmed with the DD heat map. The heat map proves it’s not random. From reading various Jeopardy book it seems that entire categories containing 6 clues are written we...

Re: Friday, May 6, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I think it's in the casting. They've gone younger, and I think the change in the last season has been a huge reduction in casting the generic ordinary white male. You might see 1-3 a week now, which I don't think represents the pool of people taking and passing the test. If I'm wrong, OK. But now t...

Re: Thursday, May 5, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Does "difficulty " apply as you go further down, even in categories containing the DD? Absolutely. That’s why it’s mind boggling when contestants don’t go TDD on a 2nd row DD. Or why they wager the same silly round number regardless of DD placement. At the bottom of each season’s page at ...

Re: Thursday, May 5, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
And yeah, that DD3 wager... if you're not confident, it's not so bad to bet $5. But Sarah was clearly playing fantastically. She has to try and go for the win right there. The middle ground between $5 and a bet that ends the game on a get is never the correct choice. Sarah had 17,400 while Mattea h...

Re: Thursday, May 5, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Sarah led 17600 to 11400 to minus 2000 at DD3. Adding 5000 increased the lead, but did not give her a runaway at the point. Mattea, on this day, says gracias. Yet another contestant playing not to lose against a 22-time champion instead of playing to win. Of course the DD3 wager should not surprise...
