Re: POLL: A Hypothesis about Auditions

Not to convince everyone that I am a conspiracy theorist, but . . . I thought that they brought on some fairly tough opponents for Ken Jennings, to prevent complete run-aways in the games. (Not that it did that much good.) Was this your impression, or not? One of the contestants I knew ran a local ...

my feeling is that the audition lottery is random or automated. TPTB work so hard and do so much already, I just can't see them weighing travel times at this point in the selection process.
This.

Re: Meanwhile... in the Green Room

The video was interesting, as playing cards or watching a movie would be the last thing I would do to mentally prepare myself for a competition. I wonder if the students had a choice, though? Seemed like they had to be sequestered there whether they wanted to or not. You almost have to keep all the...

It's a championship quarterfinal. All clues will be revealed. May as well get the awkward ones over with. Not necessarily sound strategically, but as a viewer, I approved.
Actually, it's the ideal strategy. Clear your weak areas (and your opponents strong areas) first.

Re: Thursday, April 5, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I don't think it's possible to come up with a good final jeopardy bet in this situation unless you have more info about what your competitor is going to do. If the obvious answer is "wager everything" that quickly falls apart because a person wagering 0 has better odds than a person wagering everyt...

Interesting. Obvious key is knowing the Koko number. Then it's a 50/50 with the top 2.

I wonder if Koko still like playing with human nipples?

Re: Thursday, April 5, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

With 3 clues left, I quickly did the math in my head and saw the potential for a tie. This was a lot less exciting than last time, since we've seen the tiebreaker and it sucks IMO, yet it still managed to end in a letdown. I was not happy with Kristin's wager; I was sure it would be immediately pun...

Personally, I would never do it. But, if you are Emily and/or Shannen, and have zero confidence in the FJ category, what is the GTO wager?

But it doesn't need to be 25k$ for there to be an incentive to cheat - people cheat for nothing (exhibit 1 - Learned League) and with the proliferation of copycat apps, you can make some reasonable money winning a few of these a week. Exactly. Hell, at least one boardie admitted to cheating TD game...

Re: Friday, March 23, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

This is exhibit 1 where sometimes the leader should wager to tie an all-in wager from 2nd place. I'm not sure about that. Betting the extra dollar saves you from a tiebreaker if both you and 2nd place get FJ. The extra dollar costs you a tiebreaker if you miss, 2nd place misses and bets sufficientl...

Took this one for real, felt it was significantly easier than the other two. Thinking most boardies will feel the same but is definitely a subjective thing. Seemed as though it was pavlov after pavlov after pavlov. When the 16th century category came up, immediately readied for Martin Luther. That s...

Re: Shocked at Matt’s last DD wager!

Stunned...what was Matt doing betting $3000 on the last clue? Basically, if you can’t get to a runaway, itcreally doesn’t matter if you’re $1 ahead or within $1 of a runaway, you control your own destiny in FJ, you answer correctly and win and probably lose if you get it wrong, but the additional $...

why is everyone ignoring the part where I've said absolute math does not work absolutely because people bet "wrong" all the time? Really--if people bet "properly" all the time, these conversations would never happen. Because your math and strategy is so far off it's difficult to come to terms. Simi...

Re: "Basic strategy" for Final Jeopardy wagering?

1st place @ 18800 should bet it all since the minimum bet to ensure a lock would have this person fall below 3rd place's current score of 12800. 2nd place @ 13800 needs to defend against 3rd place, and again, may as well bet it all because 3rd place needs to bet nothing, and any defensive bet will ...

Re: Friday, February 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

FJ Wagering: Vinay would normally wager 15,901 to protect from a double by Rob. But if he misses, that wager will leave him with 3800. Gianna should wager less than 200 to stay above that number, which she did. Because of that Rob doesn't need to worry about her ending with more than 4200. So his w...

Re: Thursday, January 11, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I think it was one of those clues where knowing too much was a disadvantage. Most people are going to think of Jordan right away, but those with substantial college basketball knowledge are going to think "...but what about James Worthy?" And it's not like Worthy is too obscure for consideration. H...

If you are going to miss FJ based on the category, then wagering 0 is the most reasont bet, no matter what place you are in. If you have zero chance of answering correctly you wouldn't have been there in the first place. Zero wagers have merit in certain situations, this is not one of them. No smil...
