Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), April 9, 2019

looks like 36 here. Meh, but considering I did exactly zero prep, it coulda been worse. I have GOT to brush up my chemistry though.

Re: May 31 2017, Adult Online Contestant Test Discussion (Central)

Depending on what might or might not be acceptable alternate answers, I got between 39 and 41. Is just putting down Baikal for Lake Baikal okay, and what makes brandy different from wine, and can cognac be considered to be both? Pretty sure Baikal is OK (that's what I put too, and I'm pretty sure "...

WOOHOO!!! WORST Case scenario I got 38 right, Best case scenario I got 40 if they take pity on the partial answers "morn" (Didn't have time to add mourn) and "Pucci"--pulled that one with about a second left and barely got it in.

Re: May 31 2017, Adult Online Contestant Test Discussion (Central)

We'll see, I think I probably beat 35 but it's gonna be tight. Felt harder than yesterday, but that may have been nerves, as this was the first time I've ever taken it for real. Nailed the geography questions funnily enough, but I don;t know if I typed in enough of Puccini in time (assuming that was...

Re: May 30 2017, Adult Online Contestant Test Discussion

Just took it as my last practice test before the real thing later tonight--38. I've been pretty consistent in the mid to high 30s, so I'm pretty optimistic, but it's going to come down the the mix of questions. Hopefully there won't be too much geography or classical music...

Coryat of 23,600 the first time keeping score in like a year? Happy with that result. :-) Lach Trash of Yakov Smirnoff, overpass, thought dickinson but was unsure so kept clam. Answered History Detectives instead of antiques roadshow, one of those cases where too much knowledge (in my case of short-...

Re: Just registered for the online test--now what?

Wow, I looked on youtube over lunch and there were a lot more of the online tests out there than I expected. Guess I know what I'm doing for the next few weeks. :-) Thanks!

Re: Just registered for the online test--now what?

Ditto to the first response. And work on your self esteem! Just because you didn't do well in the college test doesn't mean you won't do better now. And start to refer to yourself as an ExcellentLibrarian instead of just an OKLibrarian. Well, the OK in OKLibrarian is a reference to geography, not s...

Re: Just registered for the online test--now what?

Oh yeah, Sporkle! I forgot about that. My plan is to pull about 10-ish games at random over the past 5 years or so from J Archive to verify whether what i think are my weak spots really are And then focus on those areas, binge-watch/bet along with old Final Wager vids, and be a little more intention...

Just registered for the online test--now what?

Well, I finally lurked here long enough to decide to take leave of my senses and register for the next online test. I'm pretty good on the couch, but I took (and failed) the test for the college tournament back in the day, so i know it'll take more than that. Any tips for preparation?

Re: Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

So I always, always used to get Becket and More confused and say the wrong one. I finally came up with a mnemonic to remember them -- More is associated with Henry VIII and Becket with Henry II; the way to remember this is that 8 is MORE than 2. Also that Henry VIII had MORE wives. :) Everything ab...

My husband and I both actually leapt to our feet from the couch and applauded when Jeff buzzed in on the tiebreaker. Truly an AMAZING game and tournament. Congratulations again to all of the teens and thanks for putting on such an excellent show.

Re: Tuesday, July 29, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I mostly lurk around these parts, but since we have a lot of the competitors posting here, I just want to say that overall the quality of play this teen tournament has been excellent--rivalling if not surpassing most of the adult games lately and one of the best TT lineups of the last few years. Eve...

Re: Tuesday, June 10, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Had Douglas Adams first, realized "wait a second, he's not a scientist", then arrived at Carl " billions and billions of stars" Sagan. Same for me. I also had Douglas Adams pop into my head first. Not that I ever believed it to be correct, but just on a quick-response word-association level, humor ...

Re: Tuesday, June 10, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Here is the clue: A 1918 error produced the valuable "inverted" this; a 2013 stamp has the plane upside down on purpose. When Alex said no to Jason's airplane I do not think he was giving him a second chance. No means no. Nor was he helping the other contestants by saying it needs to be more specif...

Re: Tuesday, June 10, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Did Alex not allow Jason to have a second chance when he said airplane for the inverted stamp clue? The word airplane or plane did not appear in the clue, but Alex just said he needed to be more specific and kind of brushed him off. I agree he needed to give more than just airplane, but it was weir...

Excellent game, possibly my favorite of the BOTD so far. Chuck's a favorite of mine so I was glad to see him make it interesting. I Instagot Scott, but only because I lived in Dundee, Scotland sophomore year of college. One of Scott's ships (the RRS Discovery) is permanently docked in Dundee where s...

I suspect I might have missed this FJ! but for one of those fortuitous Jeopardy! coincidences.... In another thread a few days ago, I responded to a request for J! study material by suggesting The Rex Factor ("reviewing all the kings and queens of England from Alfred the Great to Elizabeth II") pod...

Re: Haters gonna hate, I suppose, but...

I Listened to the Amok podcast, And I'm sorry but I don't see how even the host, much less Arthur, suggested that all (or even most) of the haters were "racists". The discussion pointed out that some aspects of the debate in some quarters seemed to be colored by the fact that Arthur fits certain ste...
