Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

From the beginning of LL82 to the end, there were some programming changes to reduce the amount of information that was available without logging in. For example, early in LL82 I was able to look at the daily rundle rankings, but I was no longer able to do that by the end. The biggest recent change...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Trying not to make my stay in A rundle a 1-season one, I'm in 25th (one above the relegation zone) and tied in points with the person in 26th, over whom I hold a 3-point edge in MPD. She's the only person who can knock me into the relegation zone. So it all comes down to MD 25! Note: the 26th-place...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

My greatest achievement this season is leading my rundle in both CAA (108, next is 100) and TPA (156, next is 144). I liked yesterday's set and got all six right. On the subject of those statistical achievements: BackesER is leading his rundle by a longshot in correct answers given (96 to 62), tota...

I actually know the origin of thousand island dressing but "similar to Russian dressing" threw me off course. Isn't Russian dressing usually smooth and red, like French or Catalina?
What did you go with instead?

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Okay, I'm having a derp moment. How do I check my own score? Or wager against someone else? Depends if you mean for today's match, already submitted, or do you mean past matches this season? Simply going to your profile by clicking on your flag, anywhere on the site, and clicking the far left tab, ...

Re: Thursday, September 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The street in the Hull House clue is a well known Chicago street. [citation needed] "Halsted Street" has zero Archive hits. I wouldn’t say it was a slam dunk TOM, but it was the TOM in the clue. It is one of the major north/south street in downtown Chicago, whether it’s in the archive or not. Then ...

If he had been ahead of Jason at the end of DJ, he would have won the game, even with it being a triple stumper.

What’s up with j-archive?

I see there are skeletons in for the first 5 games of Season 36, but I’m not seeing anything yet for Season 37 or 38. Can you all please pick up the pace? If you’re having trouble seeing all the games, talk to MarkBarrett about a workaround to see early airings out of Alabama. Thank you!

Re: Deconvoluting Holzhauer

Yeah the 25% number seems high but I think it's perfectly plausible, albeit still largely based on guesswork. I agree that 90% is a good estimate for how many clues James knows in an average game. I'd put his range at something like 50-57, with an average around 54. So the number of clues he doesn't...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I made it two episodes. The 1967 finale of “The Fugitive” drew in 78 million viewers, surpassing the 73 million who tuned into this show Sunday, February 9, 1964 I tried precall after precall after precall. This left me with a miles-long list of options, and no matter how many times I reread the cl...

On the first clue revealed in that category: I could have sworn they were going for Barry Levinson on the back half, but the correct response ended with (Jerry) Seinfeld. I guess I just totally miss heard the clue. Can somebody post up the actual verbage? No, the correct response ended with the dir...

Logic would tell you this has to be in Canada or Russia but is it Charles DeGaulle? Is there a Paris to French Guiana flight? Is the Atlantic even wider than Russia?
Close: CDG to Reunion

Also, bring back tie games (that is, both contestants come back the next day whenever one occurs) as well. I think this is a good example of addition by subtraction. I get that they don't want leaders to play for a tie, but if both players were tied before FJ and shoot the moon and both get it, bri...

One of the only operas I’ve ever been to was Philip Glass’s Satyagraha . A friend of mine worked for the Met and had an extra ticket. My only distinct memories of it are that it was quite long, very repetitive, and generally just not my cup of tea. I’m slightly more grateful to have seen it now, as...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I've had a shot to win A Fjord in each of the last 3 seasons, missing by narrow margins in the final week. Now that I only have to finish top 3, I'm expecting to have one of those "highest CAA" type seasons and finish 15th or so, but we'll see! I'd have no expectations of winning the championship or...

This place will get much more fun in a hurry if the guy who goes 59/60 every game starts asking everyone else why they didn't remember everything.
