Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I wonder if a calmer Emma, one who had bet at least $201 more on DD3, might have worked her way to the right response. This is a tough loss for someone who could have gone a lot farther. I think she might have if she had written it down left-handed. The whole left-handed crossword thing was counter...

Re: Quick Rules Q

Sounds like you are (the former, I mean). The paperwork has nothing of the ins and outs of a game of Jeopardy. If you are on a show and you choose to ignore these instructions, well that's a you problem. I find it interesting that both people you chose to lecture about supposedly not reading the ru...

I would bet big against this one. Odds of a married champion seem slim.

There are no rules that anyone could read. Jesus Christ Wayne are you just willfully ignorant and trying to annoy everyone?

Re: Season 36 Changes & Predictions

Heck, maybe one VERY MINOR flaw in James’ game is that he would hit the DD on his first clue call It may be minor but that's arguably what did him in. I think the biggest flaw in James's gameplay was that he played too conservatively. Yes, seriously. He made too few mistakes, and that did him in. H...

Erin's guess of Oregon for "Timber' wasn't a bad guess, with the Portland Timbers of MLS (and before that, NASL). :| I so wanted Jonathan to say "Make this a true daily triple, Alex" at the start of DJ. :geek: Military alphabet is one of those lists a J! player should know, along with the President...

Re: Thursday, May 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To me it's not about guaranteeing the lock at that point of the game, more like ensuring the lock in all likelihood . With 12 or 16 or so clues still on the board, to lock the game mathematically you'd have to imagine either of the other two players getting all of the remaining clues, and particula...

Re: Thursday, May 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Right thinking. I thought it was a silly FJ clue. Germany is an obvious trap, so what else could it be? Plus, Haydn was Austrian. Suprisingly suboptimal $5,000 DD wager by James. If he thought he wouldn't get it, why not wager $5? A little after-lunch lapse? He is a professional gambler. Plus it is...

Re: Thursday, May 23, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought James was terribly bold on his DD. If he'd missed it, he would have been finished right there. No deposit, no refill. Yeah, a pretty stunning display of hubris. What does he think he is, 57/61 on daily doubles or something? What a rube! And even if you take out the 16400 he got from that ...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

If anyone has ever played HQ or confetti, the 15 seconds allowed on the Jeopardy! test seems like an eternity, and the vast majority of the clues are very straightforward. So yeah I don’t know how many people care enough to game this test or help their buddy but I certainly hope (and assume) that th...

nobody else wondering why they allowed the 1000 wager when he said all in and only had 200? Allowed it? I'd wager Dave doesn't know much about gambling, but I think his intentions (if not his "boss's") were carried out... I disagree. I think they need to take the contestant as literally as possible...

Re: Thursday, May 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I cackled a bit at the final $2000 wager that would drop her into a tie for the lead, but after thinking about it, the tie really doesn't have much effect in a QF as neither player should be making the cover wager, and the odds of them both picking the same amount to bet to maximize wild card chance...

Did the teachers get to witness any of James' games? Be curious to see if any of them try to imitate him. What was the logic behind Julia's wager? I would've thought the optimal strategy to be putting herself at $16,001. bad wager imo as well...if i were her i would have bet it all...if risking 6k ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I'm not saying over 75% for Iceland though I would take over 40%. I would guess it to be in the 70% range. In Learned League 71 Match Day 7 was the following question: The world's first woman to be democratically elected as chief of state was Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, who served as what nation's presi...

Re: Question about game scheduling

I’ve made the same query before, and I don’t think there’s been any great answer. It feels like ockhams razor provides the obvious explanation. Most of the games are chosen at random during a week but clearly they must be able to designate certain games to air on a particular day. The contestants ar...

This bitching about it for 3 days, is that beneficial? So what I'm getting is that the TOM was super obscure for the top box. Can we just poll this and see how many actually got it? I'm saying 40, tops. Every single peson who has responded about this has told you exactly the opposite. It's not supe...
