Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

Yes you are certainly right that it is 20, not 30. I forgot to double check my math on the last step.

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I'm guessing the first 8 games will be to decide which 3 teams play in a 2-game final. First 8 games: each team plays round-robin style and has 4 games. That sort of works, but a round-robin tournament for 6 teams in 4 games doesn't work out evenly I don't think. I started doing the math on this, a...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I'm with the several like minds on here and Reddit that this is certainly a confusing format. 6 teams, 10 games? I've been trying to make sense of it ever since I first heard about the tournament and I just can't. As for the contestant selection, very excited to see a lot of my favorites returning....

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

22841 may not be, but 24000 is. If you see a mountain breaking 24k, think Asia, not zebras. Why should I think 24K = Asia? I'm pretty sure South America and Africa have high mountains too. 24 is just such an arbitrary cutoff. 24k is a height that no mountain outside Asia reaches, that's why. There ...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

After a little research, I see that my crazy idea of a team having to face each other in the finals is not what's going to happen. I found this (which I'm sure many have seen): How will the competition work? Teams will return to Los Angeles in January 2019 to compete against each other head-to-head...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

If you enjoy science fiction, the Jemisin trilogy is an absolute masterpiece--supremely inventive and meaningful. The Hugo award is very well deserved. (I was so confident on this one, that I entered "Mae Jamison," who is the astronaut of course. A case of unneeded information being wrong and sinki...

Re: Wednesday, September 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The easy way to fix this would have been to ask for the device, rather than his name. In 1789 this doctor proposed 6 articles on penal reform to the French Assembly, including one on capital punishment becomes In 1789 the French Assembly received a proposal of 6 articles on penal reform, including o...

Maybe Lori can protest with the claim that accepting this response violates their clear and well-established rules on spelling/pronunciation. Making her own response wrong as well as the other two players would make her the winner.

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

My point was more to say that there are plenty of damn good players who are more than qualified and could easily fill a spot in this and also might be nice and enjoyable to have back. I think they were totally in the right to leave out Jerry with his legal issues and likely left out Stephanie from c...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I see Arthur Chu's absence has already been discussed. I really hope he declined rather than was not invited, because it's a real slight if it's the latter. Right. I say this as someone who can definitely be rubbed the wrong way by Arthur’s personality and politics — I hope this was his decision, b...

Re: Jeopardy! All Stars First Pick Poll

Double Jeopardy is the round that matters. But if I'm good enough to be a captain, I'm playing that myself. So my pick is going to be a FJ specialist. And of the players on the list, nobody is better at FJ than Ben Ingram. I don't remember exactly where I heard this, but it may have been from one o...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

FYI it would appear that this new website is not supposed to go live until next week. The announcement is dated 9/10, so look for it to vanish soon. Also if you click around on there you could have all of next week’s games spoiled for you, so proceed with caution!

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

I suppose their could be an argument that they are carefully crafting each tape date's pool of players, balancing for age, gender, ethnicities, geographical representation, different occupations, etc., and that if one of the 10-12 they've chosen for a particular taping date can't make it, they may n...

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

Seen plenty of stories similar to this before, it is odd how they will be so accommodating to people who are one of the ~3,000 chosen for an audition but unwilling to be flexible for the ~400 that have been chosen to be on the show. The show tapings are Serious Business in a manner that the auditio...

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

I got a Memphis invite. The timing is kind of inconvenient with a family wedding so I asked if I could do it in another city. Long story short, there will be a Los Angeles audition on Oct 4-5. If you get The Call, they won't be so understanding. My mother-in-law was visiting us for her 100th birthd...
