Re: HQ Trivia

Last nights HQ gave $15,000 to seven winners, $2,143 each, second largest prize ever. Much like the two players who won $6000 each on Christmas Eve and the one player who won $1500 solo, none of these players had ever won before and I predict they will likely never win again. One of those people is...

Re: Friday, February 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

My mind got stuck on a response in the right ballpark but playing for the wrong team: Fear of Flying. Knew it didn't fit as it would be the opposite of what the clue described but couldn't maneuver quickly enough to find anything else.

Re: HQ Trivia

In CashShow, there was an error in the 8PM EST game today. The clue asked for the date of "World Cancer Day", which is February 4, but that was not one of the options. February 2 was given as the supposed correct answer. The voiceover following the reveal correctly said February 4. I want my three ...

Re: Tuesday, January 23, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

4. It wasn't my caps lock either. I held down the Shift key for each and every one of those capitals. Probably. I don't specifically recall, but that's the way I tend to do it for single capitalized words. Ok you've got me there, I made a bad assumption and you called me on it. My apologies. Shall ...

Re: Wednesday, January 24, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I got FJ fairly quickly - had to spend a sec making sure I remembered the name correctly. I was deciding between "Publisher's sweepstakes" and "Publisher's clearinghouse" but eventually figured it out Can someone listen and hear if the "g"s were pronounced in "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", sinc...

Re: Tuesday, January 23, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I would have had no issue with you saying the WW II clue was a tough FJ, or even saying that it seemed way harder than the rest of the QF clues. However I don't know how you managed to declare this on Tuesday when you hadn't seen 3 of the Finals yet. And saying it would be better placed in the TOC, ...

Re: Tuesday, January 23, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Though on the difficult side, I do believe this FJ was eminently fair. Strand magazine should make you think of Sherlock even if you haven't read the material. And LITERARY BROTHERS should suggest that Sherlock himself isn't correct. From there it's just a matter of remembering the brother's name, ...

Re: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I agree that just "Saint Patrick" should have been accepted as a short form of "Cathedral of St. Patrick" EXCEPT when the category is "Getting Possessive." For this one, I don't believe Alex gave rules for the category. I recall once before that someone gave a response that met the clue criteria bu...

Re: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I feel like if David is behind, he would be even more likely to take a shot at the $400 clue. What would make you assume that the opposite would be true? Certainly it's impossible to know if the final 5 clues play out the same had the DD been ruled correct to begin with, but I don't know if they wou...

Re: Thursday, January 11, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

It's a perfectly fine clue, you just approached it poorly. Worthy did not hit the championship-winning shot against Georgetown in 1982 and, since Jordan is part of the 15-member "All-Time March Madness" team while Worthy is not, you can hardly argue that the latter part of the clue "more accurately...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

I was quite proud of myself for thinking of Ruthie Cohen. I also considered Peterman, Frank Costanza, and Susan, but just couldn't believe any of them could possibly have been in over 100 episodes. I was quite annoyed that description was acceptable instead of requiring the character name. If you c...

Re: 2018 Current Events Study Guide

Mass protests against the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, and the mullahs, with the symbol of the revolution so far being a woman who ripped off her hijab. (Compulsory hijabs were instituted in Iran in 1979 after the coup and rarely worn before then) Hundreds have been arrested thus f...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Also, I've submitted day MD25 already, which means I've completed my 2nd Completist Cup, and 20 full seasons of LL without a forfeit, 3,600 Qs in total. I do love this game, and I already can't wait for next year. (Already signed up for the MLs, and you should too, unless you don't want to.) For th...

I learn plenty from my mistakes, usually watch through question 12 and take screenshots of any questions I think are particularly difficult or notable or interesting and discuss with friends. Sure there are plenty of awful questions, and I don’t mean written poorly, I mean just uninteresting or virt...

Re: Monday, January 1, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

While Alex generally keeps up the illusion that each game is taking place on the current day, I struggle to recall a remark as intelligence-insulting as pointing out that the leader clearly didn't stay out partying for New Year's Eve last night.

Vermonter, was that you I saw in the lineup of champions tonight? Nice job, dude!
I saw him as well, nicely done. That was a brutal set.
