I had the 14th amendment ending slavery. Serious trivia fail.
I did too. I also had the 20th repealing prohibition, so my mistakes canceled out. I wish I could be this lucky when I need it.

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

I got a Memphis invite. The timing is kind of inconvenient with a family wedding so I asked if I could do it in another city. Long story short, there will be a Los Angeles audition on Oct 4-5.

Re: I'm Sick and Tired of my Posts getting deleated

I know, I know, don't feed the trolls and such... As soon as the board starts collecting taxpayer money for the sake of keeping it up and running, then I will agree with you. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you, decrying the freedom of speech violations. On the off chance that the board gets ...

Did anyone else try to think of old European currencies that sounded like Greek/Roman gods? I guessed "lira" on the hope that that was a mythological figure as well.

Yipes... I said the Pentagon. In hindsight, "New Yorker" was sort of a TOM, but not really. The New Yorker is a ubiquitous enough publication that I don't think it necessarily implies anything New York-based.

For that FJ, "confluence" wasn't the only TOM. The explorer had a French name, which was a clue that it was part of Louisiana Purchase land. I insta-guessed it, since it seemed pretty straightforward.

Yipes. I spent 30 seconds trying to think of any famous painters earlier than Picasso who painted war scenes, and there were a few, and I still couldn't come up with anything. Swing and a miss.

Re: Thursday, March 19, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

No shame in not ciphering out that FJ in 30 seconds. With a scrabble background, I focused on the two V's which immediately leads to Russian authors. I've noticed that when Jeopardy mentions a book written in 1955, it's always Lolita, and when it mentions a book written in 1897, it's always Dracula...

Instaget, but they've overturned responses before after finding an old reference book that agrees with a player. Mathematicians disagreed on the primeness of 1 until relatively recently, and you can find math reference books from the 70s that call 1 prime. If you can find one, I'd be interested in ...

Re: Tuesday, January 27, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

what an effing TOUGH FJ. No wonder all of them missed. I guess our brains are just not indexed that way. I guessed Henry Fonda. There was only one way for Christine to win, and it happened. I went with Ralph Fiennes for The English Patient. I went straight to the movie that got all the Oscar buzz w...

Re: Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Did anyone else think this clue had to do with the crusades and trying to maintain peace in the Holy Land? Yes. I guessed Richard the Lionheart because I was pretty sure it was about the crusades and tried to come up with someone who is famous for involvement in the crusades. Pretty much my thought...

I wonder if the hit-rate for this FJ goes along the lines of who did or did not major in the sciences. It was an instaget, but I've spent far too much time staring at epsilons while working through math proofs.

Recalling its British connection, I went with Malta. (Somehow managed to completely overlook the much easier and obvious choice of Ireland, though.) I'll go one farther when it comes to missing the obvious. I instagot Malta and Cyprus for that exact reason, and spent the rest of the time wondering ...

Re: Thursday, December 11, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Did anyone else get Final because of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat? That line, "it's all there in chapter 39/of Genesis" stuck with me, and I shouted Jacob, then Joseph, dismissed them, and got Pharoah with a few seconds to go. I don't know if I would've had time to write it down, bu...

Harry Truman for me. Google reveals he was a senator, so it wasn't a bad guess, but it wasn't a good guess either.

Blazing Saddles... This strikes me as a trivia question. I hate trivia. I have to disagree. When Jeopardy asks about older movies, it usually stays within the realm of Best Picture Academy Award winners or movies in the National Film Registry. This was no exception, and I think it was fair game. It...

Re: Tuesday, December 2, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Just after they broke for the first commercial, my local station broke in to show the news conference to announce UAB is dropping their women's rifle and bowling teams. They got back right at the end of the DJ round. Perhaps your local station was doing its impression of a buddy that calls you duri...
