Hi everyone — just a bump to remind you that registration for our 1960s Music ML could close as early as Sunday morning (it starts Thursday). Here's the link: https://learnedleague.com/register.php?1960smusic

There shouldn't be a College Championship of any sort in 2020-2021.
I'd be ok with a College Champions Championship.

Re: Friday, October 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Had Moody's instead of S&P, not sure how I would have gotten it without flat remembering which one it was. Moody's doesn't use + and -, and doesn't capitalize beyond the first letter. Not sure why you'd be expected to know or remember that for $400, though — it was a bad clue (Fitch was my first in...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Relegated to B! How will I ever survive? (I'll spend the offseason waiting to see if the Commissioner has to rejigger the rundle assignments and I end up back in A anyway... in addition to doing 1960s Music and the other two MLs.) Glad you'll be joining us in 1960s Music! Sorry about the relegation...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

As one of the smiths, I am obliged to note that registration has opened for the 1960s Music ML. Hopefully people will be challenged and enjoy. I hope this as well! (Looks like Vermonter might be one of the main smiths?) Yes, I am one of the head honchos. Currently we're in the midst of implementing...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I'd never heard of Five Moons or the three women in that question, but I knew of only one set of famous Native American sisters, with or without a last name; luckily that set had a last name, and it was the correct answer. I'm not surprised to see the low get percentage. (I could name Maria but not...

Had a rare double attempt on Wednesday (MD20): 4. The fifth and seventh Etruscan kings of Rome, the latter of whose reign ended in 509 BCE (and ended the Roman Kingdom), shared what name (nomen), followed immediately by Priscus and Superbus respectively? BIGGUS 6. Blind Blake's Southern _____, Blind...

The extended 1980s theme (used for big events like TOC Finals) is one of the all-time great pump-up songs

Re: LL83: Learned League

I had nothing better than isosceles, which I’d only ever seen in the context of triangles Math is my strongest category and this was still an educated guess for me — I figured if you extended the non-parallel sides, you'd get an isosceles triangle. Normally I'll stick 3 on any math question I'm uns...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I started with Irish Car Bomb, but could not imagine what that would have to do with uniforms. Finally went reluctantly to black and tan, as having the Guinness, two ingredients, and the smallest resemblance to some kind of clothing reference. Turned out to be right. I got stuck on the singular "be...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

But I can't recall [Brad] ever winning because of a bad wager, and, frankly, if he did, maybe the wager was no so bad, no? In UToC Round 3 , Brad got away with a bad wager — there was no downside to risking it all. Had Michael Rooney simply wagered $2,001 to lock Brad out, Michael would have advanc...

Re: LL83: Learned League

George Michael instead of Whitney Houston (almost certainly triggered by "1990")

I thought my POP MUSIC score was higher than my overall average, but that would explain the 3 point I received there. Luckily, turnabout was fair play, as I stuck the same number on that question, and tied 6(5)-6(5)

Note that "Black Holes and Revelations" is the title of an album by the rock band Muse.
I heard "Black Holes" as category 5 and yelped out, "PLEASE be 'Revelations'!" One of my favorite albums of all time.

Glad they also worked "supermassive black hole" into a clue (track #3 on the album)

Re: LL83: Learned League

The person who has won A Magnolia several times, and beat me like a rented mule for years, isn't playing this sesson. The weird thing is that our head-to-head record has been wiped from the record. To be honest, I'm happy about that. Same for the person who posted six 9(6)’s to close out LL81 and b...

Here's hoping we win...it would be my 2nd, and I'd be happy to share the trophy with a friend. Indeed! I finished in 3rd in LL76… unfortunately, my feat was lost in the crash, but there is evidence on JBoard What is the name of the legal and theological document, with 28 editions published between ...

Re: LL BWA Entries

Sergeant is the third and final word in the title of a 1958 British film that launched a series that ended with its 31st movie in 1992. What was the name of this franchise, and the first two words in that 1958 film (and every installment thereafter)? Tyler Perry’s I submitted the same, bummer And i...
