Re: Wednesday, February 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

As I and others have said, it is Mackenzie's money and her choice.

However, I do find it slightly odd that she wagers $0 and then goes through the mental energy to solve and try to spell the clue.

If I were going to do that, I would at least bet a little.

Re: Monday, February 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Re wagering Great that she goes big on DD3 but holding back the 1,000 should have cost her today. And yes it’s her money and she can bet it anyway she likes. We can objectively review her FJ wager as to optimal strategy. IMO choosing 19% of ~31K (6k) vs 47% of 15+k (7.5k) is the obvious way to look...

Re: the champion's wager

Maybe she figured she had already won five games and was not worried about absolutely maximizing her chances of winning another? Perhaps you meant absolutley maximizing her winnings ($) in the event she gets it correct and Steve is wrong? In that case, I would argue that in both of her lock games s...

Re: Monday, February 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Strategically, MacKenzie did everything she could to lose. She won. It happens. Jeopardy is not chess. Going into FJ, I had a hunch she was going to 'blow' her wager. I was right. Maybe she figured she had already won five games and was not worried about absolutely maximizing her chances of winning...

Episode recap. Basic sports knowledge - fail Basic FJ wagering knowledge - fail Typical episode if you ask me. :D :D :D Boxing rules just come up for trivia purposes a lot. Definitely more than they should. But it’s without a doubt beginner level sports trivia knowledge. BWW regulars will have not ...

Re: Thursday, January 30, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Joshua lost a LOT of money on FJ!. 13400 * 2 = 26800. 26800 + 1 = 26801. 26801 - 21000 = 5801. 21000 - 5801 = 15199. 15199 > 13400. 15199 = $15199. $15199 + $1000 = $16199. At minimum. Please, for the sake of my own sanity - all you jboardies who have the wonderful opportunity to get on Jeopardy, l...

Serious FJ! overwager!
Are you joking? I fail to see how it can be called a serious overwager, since it did not allow to Sarah with a $0 wager or wrong answer and it did not resurrect third place.

Re: Monday, December 23, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I feel very sorry for all the contestants being stuck in this situation with the tiebreaker rule (that said, betting differently on daily doubles could have prevented it). Two of my favorite ties, 10/18/11 http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=3740 and 1/10/13 http://www.j-archive.com/showga...

Re: To tie or not to tie (that is the question....)

Hello, everyone. I'm trying to get info on TOC qualifiers' fifth games to see whether or not they actually thought to tie second place when they could have (if someone either had a lock game or was in second or third position pre-FJ on day 5, I'll note that as well). If you don't see a TOC qualifie...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

For me, the best part of this episode is the humorous miswagering at the end. Since ties were allowed in 1986, it would have been smarter for Marc not to add the dollar. Yet, Ed saved that mistake by withholding two dollars. His facial and entire bodily expression was just priceless. I am sure he's...

Re: Thursday, November 28, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It is very unfortunate that anyone expected Alex to apologize for having ended up with $88. She should have felt no need to do so. Just because some racists might have co-opted that number does not mean Jeopardy should ban it or any number that leads to it. And, it is unfortunate that Andy Saunders...

Re: Friday, December 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Alex matched Eric with a Wildcats greeting: https://i.ibb.co/X2R33Gq/wildcat-2.jpg First Box DD just to keep hunters on their toes. DD3 was in the last box. Eric led 19000 to 12400 to 8400. He did -5500 while plus would have been 24500 and still no lock. Math under pressure does not always go well....

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Interesting. Did Paul Boymel always wager to tie? If so, it would be interesting to know his reasons. I know this is controversial, but if the scores were $6,300 to $3,200 and third place was out, and I felt confident about the category, I would have been tempted to not only not wager to tie, but to...

Re: Monday, November 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

(The Mariah Carey song was my only miss. She has had many, many hits.) I'd hit that.  Elise's lack of gameplay skills caught up with her. Her Coryat was much higher than the eventual winner, but not hunting DD's and making sub-optimal wagers let one with lesser knowledge and/or buzzer ...

Re: Wednesday, November 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The no shout-outs rule is even dumber than the no ties rule. I agree out the shout-outs rule and I agree that that arguments related to collusion and other arguments do not justify the no ties rule in regular play (though they may be good reasons to give players only half the money). However, since...
