Nice one day, morbeedo. Still kicking myself about a couple of my answers.
Thanks. Can I kick you, too? ;)
Only if you see the sign taped to my back.

Re: Article about quiz show scandals - mentions Holzhauer

Kind of a long piece, for those who already know the story of this scandal. The author alleges that Holzhauer broke the game. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/the-last-wasp-in-primetime/ Thanks for posting this. The author puts a fairly predictable spin on the story, but IMO misses ...

This felt distinctly harder to me, too. I got a 45 on this (missed the video game, IT, the amendment , follow back and Post Malone) compared to a 48 on last week's.

Asking for anything other than oxygen about this, I think, would make it harder than TOC.
I can see them clueing for a response of hypoxia, too, as a higher valued clue.

On the slim one, was anyone actually familiar with any names besides Slim Whitman? That, and maybe Guitar Slim, was the only one that meant anything to me.
Memphis Slim was a name that I knew. Once I'd dismissed Memphis Minnie from my thought processes, Memphis + Whitman got me to slim.

I was quite tickled by Bob&Tom McKenzie for the two missing officials, but also like "unfriend."

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

A bit of a Slumdog Millionaire moment yesterday when managing a rare victory against bomtr. My mother bought a mah-jongg set back when I was in junior high school so I was somewhat familiar with the tiles. And I've stared at the Degas statue in question at the Art Institute of Chicago enough that, a...

Re: Gameplay Strategies

The best advice I've received, which I now pass on, is to play the game that best suits you. If timing the buzzer off the lights works for you, go for it. If, OTOH, you're more comfortable timing it off of Alex's voice, do that instead. If you're highly risk averse, bet accordingly; if you're not, b...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

My greatest achievement this season is leading my rundle in both CAA (108, next is 100) and TPA (156, next is 144). I liked yesterday's set and got all six right. On the subject of those statistical achievements: BackesER is leading his rundle by a longshot in correct answers given (96 to 62), tota...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I had a middle school science teacher that pointed out that "phenylketonuriacs: contains phenylalanine" warning on diet soda and now I can't un-see it. (I also notice it on sugar-free gum.) Except I mentally parsed it as phenyl - keto - neuria (with an 'e') rather than phenyl - keto - uria (with an...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I got credit for "Near Earth Object" which I totally should have. Didn't matter since the Vermonter poured beer all over my head anyway. I said asteroid*, which I presumed to be wrong when I saw the reveal. I was quite surprised this morning to see that Thorsten accepted it as a correct answer, esp...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I thought yesterday's set (MD 19) was brutal. I only got two right (Stallone/Rocky and Singapore). I've heard of the Bechdel test, but couldn't come up with the name. Agreed. I felt bad about getting only 3 right (narrowly missed the Taco Bell one) but then saw that Reddpen, my opponent for the day...

Re: Pavlov revival

For the purposes of Jeopardy it's not misleading. He parents were immigrants from China, and she designed the Museum of the Chinese in America. J! has used both Chinese and Asian to describe her. Saying she was Chinese-born is indeed incorrect though. I cannot imagine that they'd ever refer to her ...

One stat I would like to see is a correct answers win/loss/tie, or at least something to see how much by defense has helped (or...more often hurt) my standing.
That’s pretty much what the luckiest/unluckiest LLama posts at seasons end are about.

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer

I am now five weeks into taking chemo infusions for pancreatic cancer, and I can offer this perspective: Alex Trebek is a remarkable incredible trooper for being able to continue to host Jeopardy to the high standard that he sets.  Chemo really does take it out of you.  I am on a two week cycle for...
