Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

Welp, that Art ML Final certainly kicked my patoot. Guess I should feel glad that I got 2/12.

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

But the good news is that I am now in 2nd in my group and am first in TCA. It feels really good to be doing well in a subject that I like. But I am only in 2nd place by 2 points, and my "non-quiz bowly" art knowledge is extremely lacking, so I am still biting my nails. Good luck. I’m in third on MD...

OMG. The term tragedy is overused, but this is truly an enormous cultural tragedy. At least no life was lost (it seems).

Re: Adult Online Test: Apr 9, 10, 11

What we know is that somewhere around 100,000 people take the online test. Of those, 2500 to 3000 will audition in any given year. The only unknown is the “passing rate” but if we posit that 10% of the test takers get a “passing” score then there’s a pool of 10,000 to choose from. Truly random sele...

Re: Adult Online Test: Apr 9, 10, 11

I can only hope I do as well as I've done the past few years, but also get through the random selection afterward for the auditions. My luck, however, is abysmal. I'm curious to compare. Between 2009 and 2017, inclusive, I passed a J! online contestant quiz seven times without getting an invitation...

Asking us to solve and then type "Call of the Wild Blue Yonder" was a bit harsh. My typing stinks; I think I said "Call of HE Wild Blue Yonder" and ran out of time.
And I, after initially blanking, got out The Ancient Marine before time ran out.

Re: Wednesday, April 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I hope it's not like mentioning Voldemort, but let's invoke Zach Horan. (Hi, Zach! Pull your pants up when I am talking to you.) I'm not sure it's you that would need to worry about that. And not a name I wanted to see on here ever again. It appears that this might embody an extension of Godwin's L...

I got 41. Thoughts on if "Potential Energy" might have been accepted for Entropy? I know Entropy is more correct. Potential energy is wrong. The wording was: "Its the measure of energy unavailable for useful work in a system: as it increases the universe is said to be running down" The second half ...

Re: Wednesday, April 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Another ho-hum performance by James. :D He's been so phenomenal that a $54,000-plus payday seems like nothing special for him. I do suspect that he'll be the player to break the curse of top winners not winning their TOC's. He combines being the top winner with the style of play that enabled Roger ...

Nope. Potential energy can still be used for work, as in a coiled spring.

I would concur that tonight’s felt harder. 41/50 for me, missing 8,11,14,17,19,21,36,40,46. It’s just as well that I passed on taking it tonight because I had to get dinner ready for my son. Now to hope that tomorrow’s doesn’t crash on me...

Got 45. Missed 11,17,23,26 (RTFQ) and 50. I hope the other two are this easy.
“Easy.” Now you’re just trolling :P
Sorry. I did feel a tad self-conscious writing that, but it did feel easier to me than most: only 2 pop culture questions and a lot of what I’d call standard trivia fare.

Also, 110,914 seems somewhat random. His daughter was born 11/09/14. Here I thought he was paying homage to Roger Craig's previous record set 2010-09-14. My daughter was born on a 9/14 as well. Every time we watch Jeopardy! together, she says, "I want to go to Jeopardy! , Daddy." My son was also bo...
