Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

As a total guess, I'd say that maybe they want to have all of a person's scoring--online test, in-person test, and scoring of how the person was in the room--done while they have the person in front of them and fresh in their minds. It could be that a person needs to have a reasonably good score in...

The Sergei Eisenstein question should have been $7,000 instead of $20,000. Stephen Friedrich: T. S. Eliot was English I believe. Bruce Springsteen: BORN IN THE USA!!! Me: Actually, American born naturalized British citizen. ;) Stephen: I think that's the poem of ... that came on a path of forest, "...

Got to the last question on Confetti tonight and missed. Some people seem to win every single night. Um, what am I doing wrong? Most of the questions are so random You have many LLamas in your FB friends list? I know that having Alex Jacob and several other TOC players in my friends list has helped...

For an opinion on the Kentucky Derby, Deadspin! https://deadspin.com/the-kentucky-derby-was-decided-by-some-video-replay-bul-1834530029 This is likely too deep to be clue material Prime LearnedLeague material though. J! has asked about the recent Triple Crown winners twice; I don't see why they cou...

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

Nicely done, Andy! Who was your Plus One? Two-time Learned League Scarf winner Scott Blish. Ha! How did I miss that? He should have worn his scarves... perfectly suited for Las Vegas weather. Come to think of it, I had to watch Mark’s video on my phone because Comcast showed the wrong episode local...

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

Nicely done, Andy! Tupac was actually an instaget for me as I recalled his parents’ Black Panther connections (shocking, given my abysmal pop music stats). I was right there with you and Scott on the $100K question. Even with the 50/50 I didn’t know.

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

There definitely are easier and harder stacks, and I would say by design and not merely accident. For example, the $2,000 question may have obvious joke answers or not; on the 20 September 2018 episode Jay's $2,000 question had obvious joke landmarks for the wrong answers, whereas on the 22 Novembe...

Rare earth with a geographic name? Ok, that’s Scandium, Yttrium, Ytterbium, Erbium, Terbium and Lutetium. Element 63? Ok, a Lanthanide so not Scandium. Now what? Oh, they’re all continents. What am I missing? Oh... Europium.

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

But the good news is that I am now in 2nd in my group and am first in TCA. It feels really good to be doing well in a subject that I like. But I am only in 2nd place by 2 points, and my "non-quiz bowly" art knowledge is extremely lacking, so I am still biting my nails. Good luck. I’m in third on MD...

OMG. The term tragedy is overused, but this is truly an enormous cultural tragedy. At least no life was lost (it seems).

Re: Adult Online Test: Apr 9, 10, 11

What we know is that somewhere around 100,000 people take the online test. Of those, 2500 to 3000 will audition in any given year. The only unknown is the “passing rate” but if we posit that 10% of the test takers get a “passing” score then there’s a pool of 10,000 to choose from. Truly random sele...

Re: Adult Online Test: Apr 9, 10, 11

I can only hope I do as well as I've done the past few years, but also get through the random selection afterward for the auditions. My luck, however, is abysmal. I'm curious to compare. Between 2009 and 2017, inclusive, I passed a J! online contestant quiz seven times without getting an invitation...

Asking us to solve and then type "Call of the Wild Blue Yonder" was a bit harsh. My typing stinks; I think I said "Call of HE Wild Blue Yonder" and ran out of time.
And I, after initially blanking, got out The Ancient Marine before time ran out.
