Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

One other category of auditions will be those of we hopefuls who go to the audition in Las Vegas on Aug 10 during Trivia Nationals. I know for a fact that morbeedo and I will be there. Yup - I'll be there too! For those of us who haven't been able to get a sniff at an audition, attending Trivia Nat...

Re: Trivia about Trivia: Obscure Record Holders

I would go further and say that there was a good chance that no one would have heard of Dan Melia at all. His first win came with him trailing Patrick Friel, no slouch himself, and requiring a sole get in FJ. Then his next two games were against Atish and he barely eked out the win after a tie the p...

Yeah, Wu Tang was the only one of the winners I voted for. But I’ve long since realized that my anglophilic sense of humor doesn’t comport well with the standard American version.

I’m matched up against BlishS so luck is what I’ll need
And luck is what I got. I’m putting a 7(4)-4(4) win against BlishS on my mantle, a crazy end to my worst-ever season.

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

I have never heard of Ritter Sport before in my life. I am absolutely flabbergasted that 56% of the league and 80% of my rundle got that one. I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out a sport where "squared" would make sense...I also can't believe the 56% get rate, but everyone I follow got it ...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

TFW you put a defensive 3 on a question with a 15% get rate, by far the day's hardest... and it's the only one your opponent gets right. I know, wanh. Perhaps I should start caring more about MCWA than DE cuz that's what I'm best at this season: 17 and counting, my highest total ever. All season lo...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

The reference to Eastern Michigan made me chuckle. Eastern Michigan University has fielded some historically awful football teams. During the early 1980s, they lost 27 consecutive games. One of my great moments as a sports spectator came at an EMU football game in the 1970s. They hosted Northern Il...

[ He plays Woof on MD25. If I'd managed to extract vanilla on MD18, I'd have had my first-ever mirror match: identical result, identical defense. Congrats on your continued survival, LLama grandad. After a brutal season, facing BlishS will be the icing on the cake. BTW, I saw what you did there.

It's not worth playing 'guess the face' at the very end of the time allowed for me. Have all the questions been like that? The last few nights have followed the game theme. Not sure why they're stuck on that format. I think it's fun - and easier overall - but not every night It seems to me that the...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Couldn’t come up with another word for shield. I guess I’ve heard of escutcheon but wasn’t getting there Reading The Pursuit of Power: 1815-1914 . Ypsilantis is mentioned exactly once in 700 pages - on page 54. I’m currently on page 47 With a league wide get rate of 8% I wouldn’t worry too much abo...

I lost the coin toss between hurling and Gaelic Football.
I lost that one, but not on a koin toss. I asked myself which was more likely to be a team sport and came down firmly in the camp of gaelic football.

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

I managed a rare 6(3)-6(5) tie, but could have won if I'd known the Shakespeare quote like seemingly everyone else did (I put Juliet, beau). Also missed "7th Heaven" and perro. I almost put beau down, too, but then recalled that Shakespeare's rhymes were often a bit forced (at least for a 20th C Am...

Welp, this Columbia alum was considering West End, Amsterdam and Morningside. Curse you, too!

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

On the Mythology one, I rejected sorority and tried to make Pleiades work with 9 instead of seven sisters. Of course there are only 6 stars in the Pleiades noticeably brighter than the others. And those 6 stars form the symbol for what auto manufacturer? Subaru, which IIRC means Pleiades in Japanese
