One stat I would like to see is a correct answers win/loss/tie, or at least something to see how much by defense has helped (or...more often hurt) my standing.
That’s pretty much what the luckiest/unluckiest LLama posts at seasons end are about.

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer

I am now five weeks into taking chemo infusions for pancreatic cancer, and I can offer this perspective: Alex Trebek is a remarkable incredible trooper for being able to continue to host Jeopardy to the high standard that he sets.  Chemo really does take it out of you.  I am on a two week cycle for...

Absolutely terrible news. Cancer does indeed suck.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

So far this season has played a tad easier than last for me but well within normal variance. YMMV as they say.

Although it doesn’t materially change the outcome, I believe that I also should have received the -3 final bonus.

Anyone else get "Bowhunting" for Archery? How 'bout pronouncing ""Nguyen" as "Win?" Counted them both right.

Re: Friday, September 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I considered Hillary to be from Illinois, but when I had counted back to Reagan, I assumed I did something wrong. Put down 2004, just to have something. First miss of the season. Just as an FYI, the time before 2016 was 1944 (FDR and Dewey both from NY). And that’s exactly what I said, having inexp...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Only 35% recognize the Mercury Seven? I'm flabbergasted. Same here. And the weirder thing is that it had the lowest Avg D (1.0), which generally means that it was considered the easiest question. I assigned my opponent with an 88% get rate in American History a no-brainer "0", and she missed it. Di...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

By the way, has anyone else noticed the season projections are now missing from our profile pages? Yeah, but they're useless, so no loss. I liked the projected TCA, but otherwise full agreement. Yeah, projected TCA was really the only thing I looked at, but still not sure why it would have been rem...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I was really surprised by the low get rate on Romanov I thought about this one a long time and I can't say Romanov was something that really crossed my mind. "Rurikids" just doesn't scream Russian to me at all. I ended up putting Pahlavi. Not a bad guess, Kirk, and one that occurred to me, too. Con...

A Greek-derived compound related to reptiles was so obviously "amphibian" to me that I never had a chance.
Even more related to reptile is the Greek-derived compound word herpetology. I haz a sad.

I'm another who knew exactly what they were looking for but had no actual knowledge of the answer. I racked my brain for Philistine cities and settled on Ashkelon with no confidence whatsoever since I knew that it still exists as a city.

Re: Monday, September 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For FJ I knew it was a single syllable city and was pretty sure it started with G and ended in "th", but the closest I could get was Goth. Kinda doubt the judges would have given me that. Now if Goth had been correct and I'd written Gath... I'd say that's an edge case. I'm pretty much positive that...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

You know how there's that question every once in a while where you see the results and wonder "how the heck does everyone other than me know this?" That was the UBI question for me on Friday. Even after seeing the answer it wasn't something that rang a bell for me. Weird. Yeah, I guess this was the...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Given all the clues in the question about Van Doren, how did that only play 14%? I completely whiffed. It certainly made sense in retrospect, but my brain just didn't take me there. Same here. The 1991 publication date certainly didn't point me to Senate testimony from 1959 and I didn't recall from...

Re: TD 428 - Short Quiz on Random Trivia - Scores through Second Bonus

When I considered this question, as a fan of the London Underground, I had to decide from among 40-odd choices. My first thought was to avoid the rail stations (Victoria, Waterloo, Charing Cross, King’s Cross, Paddington and Liverpool St) and more outre names (Elephant and Castle, Marylebone). In re...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Off to a rough start with a 6(4)-7(3) loss. My TV blind spot led me to putting a 3 on the Willis question. And I talked myself out of Synchronized Swimming because how could a solo swimmer be synchronized?
