Re: LL 100

This season has been humbling. Been finishing around top 5 for the last 10 seasons or so, but currently like 20th. A few brainfart questions and defensive losses have just wrecked me. I'm safe from demotion, so there's always next season. Chris, considering that there were only 17 people in the ent...

Re: LL 100

I am pretty sure that I am going to end up on the lucky LLamas list. When you win against a 0(1) in an A rundle, there’s no other logical explanation. You are likely to end up with a Maso, also, though the D rundler between our scores, one behind you and one ahead of me, has 6 beers in his last eig...

Re: Reretaken Down

A stunning TIL (today I learned) as I was listening to '80s music on one of my TV's music channels while doing computer work. "Sweetheart" came on and I was able to quickly recall the song I first heard over 40 years ago as it begins. I mentally told myself it's by Frankie and the Knockou...

Re: LL 100

I was allowed "Bon Appetite" for "Bon Appetit!", but busted for "Tarantela". I was sure I had a case for correction this morning and on re-read - exact spelling is required. My educated guess for the song came from my Book 1 piano lessons in sixth grade. If I knew spel...

Re: Monday, March 11, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The buzzer was clearly with Luigi early in the game, but maybe Troy figured it out by the end of the game. The change in Troy’s buzzing in Double Jeopardy was simply absurd. 4 for 23! And then 13 for 27. Very curious if he made a drastic shift in technique or somehow just managed to will himself e...

Re: Monday, March 11, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Luigi's wager was fine. Troy had a crush, not 2/3rds, and there's no prize for second place (better than third). This wasn't an Ike situation. Edit: hah, Woof's post edited. Been there! Up until Troy nailed DD2 I thought his goose was surely cooked. Then I was surprised Brian didn't make the obviou...

Re: Monday, March 11, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was quite shocked that Troy missed FJ, but courtesy of the miss from Luigi it didn’t matter. The final should be quite the shoot-out. Can’t wait to see it.

Re: Wednesday, March 6, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I guess I got lucky because I thought of the Emancipation Proclamation and never looked back. Troy's domination would surprise no one who also plays LearnedLeague. Dude's a machine. He's won the league championship four times in ten years. I’d be careful drawing too many parallels between LL and J!...

Re: LL 100

Yeah, apparently multi-sport clubs are fairly commonplace in Europe. So I did learn something new yesterday! Yeah, Real Madrid was big negbait for soccer, but the Moscow club wasn't correct for that. I tried to think about other team sports with widespread popularity throughout Europe and dismissed...

Re: Friday, March 1, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I went down the wrong path thinking of Indonesia (though a niggling thought said that Indonesia’s independence was in the ‘40s). Then, when Ken negged the New Guinea guess, it finally dropped.

Re: LL 100

Yesterday’s set was among the toughest set of questions I’ve seen in 40 seasons of LL. I felt lucky to get 3 with WAGs of NyQuil and Humpty Dumpty but still lost. In retrospect, I should have been able to pull the WC Fields quote, and I’m pretty sure that I saw Sushi Go! Demoed at last year's GenCon...

Re: Monday, February 26, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Fun game to watch. 10 clues in, I felt that Cris was going to run away with it, but Jared came roaring back in DJ. I’ll be interested to see the box score because it looked like Cris lost his buzzer mojo in DJ. I think I could still muster all the words to Marching to Pretoria so no way was I missin...

Re: Jeopardy! Masters renewed for Season 2

Get Roger Craig and Alex Jacob on there with Holzhauer, and I'm interested. Give us whoever wins this year skip all the people from last year, and throw in 4 others from the last ten years. We know the people capable of it. L. Kelly, M Jackson would top the non-winners, but Craig and Jacob should t...

I’d never heard of catenaries until visiting Gaudi house in Barcelona. Now, I can’t forget them.

Re: LL 100

My pub trivia teammates and I have an informal rule we call the “Abner Doubleday” rule after a bygone question: when you don’t know the answer, guess someone or something vaguely related in the hopes that it might be the right answer. Case in point yesterday: Pulitzer Prize-winning composers with sa...
