Re: Friday, April 9, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It's too bad they discontinued 151. It was the strongest alcohol you could buy in California and I've gotten to make some special drinks with it. Too many people getting alcohol poisoning and suing the company I suppose. Allegedly, it was because 151's easily flammable, but there's never been an of...

Re: Friday, April 9, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Tonight it was Dennis who looked very impressive. FJ was pretty much an Instaget. 1930s American novella showing a rabbit and a farm? I’ve heard enough humorous riffs on the “tell me about the rabbits” line to keep it in mind.

Do you think they would have taken "the Hindu Triumverate" for the clue that wanted Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva? I'm counting it, for now.
While I did state all three names, I wondered if Trimurthi would have been accepted as the name for all 3.

Re: Thursday, April 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For FJ, I knew Buenos Aires and Lima for sure (Thanks, Sporcle!) and spent the majority of Think Time considering what would be the third. Choosing between Bogota, Caracas and Quito, I went for Caracas. So close... Impressive debut by Pasquale. It’ll be interesting to see if he can replicate that pe...

hot and dim was supposed to lead to the interior of a plane? i was thinking of some cabin with no electricity. Fell for Daniel Boone. Was confused about Texas being in the Midwest/Abilene clue. 20th C American History pretty much precludes Daniel Boone as the answer. I think CyrusChan's Boone respo...

I was pleasantly surprised at Aaron Rodgers’s ability as a host, though that hairdo put me in mind of Michael Beschloss at times. FJ had my wife thinking of Alex Trebek until I pointed out the category. I got to Fred Rogers quickly and couldn’t think of any response I liked better.

The champ finally ran out of luck in his comeback. Nicely played game, all in all. My FJ thinking went from WTC to NYC to what body part could be bruised to the I heart NYC logo. Took me about 10 sec to get there.

Playing off the archive, Augusta for which course hosts The Masters is at the very least a BMS as the course is called Augusta National. Furthermore, behind #12 you can see the 9th fairway of neighboring Augusta Country Club. Two totally different courses. If you just say Augusta nobody knows which...

Re: Rank the Three Guest Hosts So Far

Thinking of Alex’s “the contestants are the stars “ motto, I thought that Ken did the best job of showcasing the contestants. Perhaps because he’s some familiar with the format and comfortable with the material, he was able to devote a bit more attention and focus on the players to good effect.

Tony and Emmy-winning actress Cicely Tyson has died at the age of 96. Tyson’s death comes just two days after the publication of her memoir, Just as I Am . Thank you, cinemaniax7. :) Indeed. When I read the question I thought that the book title sounded like it was written by a woman of color, and ...

If I hadn't gotten 0 for it, I'd complain about Himalayas not being taken for Kashmir. I had a long discussion about this with a trivia teammate. Those territories are in the Karakoram mountains. On doing some research, I’ve found that they aren’t considered a sub range of the Himalayas but rather ...

Said to my family “it’s where The Hunger Games is set” and knew it started with pan-, but got no farther, having not read the books and only seen 30 min of the first movie.

Re: Learned League 88 - Feb/Mar '21

It felt tougher than normal to me, too, and my 7/12 result backs that up. With so few choices, no shock that I moneyed fairly well, but still surprised that “essays” had such a low get rate.

I couldn't think of anything beyond "everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go." I remembered only this continuation from MAD (maybe Frank Jacobs?): But Mary fo...

Soweto township is pretty infamous in South African history. That’s the only way I got it.

Li, mi, and xi are all Scrabble-legal. Ran across this while curious: http://www.web40571.clarahost.co.uk/roman/quiza.htm There are only two common, everyday words which are valid Roman numbers - I (1) and mix (1009). But there are seven words altogether - div (504), dix (509), I (1), li (51), mi (...

Casting for season 2 is available here: https://www.thechasecasting.com/ . I took the 50 question test Friday afternoon. The process was...

The binary number 1111110001, which equals the hexadecimal number 3F1, when converted to Roman numerals, spells what English word? It is one of the very few common words which are valid Roman numbers. Because it didn’t say “a valid Roman number”, I stopped thinking of words from Roman numerals afte...
