Re: 2021 Current Events Discussion Thread
That is a nice bit of arcane sports trivia -- I certainly didn't know it. He did get his name mentioned in Vin Scully's call of the home run for national TV: "Fastball, it is a high drive into deep left center field, Buckner goes back to the fence, it is gone!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjqYT...

Re: Thursday, January 21, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I didn't care for Alas, Babylon . It seemed kind of cartoonish and airport novel-y to me. I felt the characters were two-dimensional and Frank didn't convince me that he'd thought through the manner and degree to which life would change after a nuclear war. I read it circa 1987 or 1988, when I was ...

As of this episode, my DirecTV DVR has replaced the Alex Trebek poster image with a generic "Jeopardy!" logo.

Re: Thursday, January 21, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
To expect the participants of Jeopardy! , viewers and contestants alike, to be able to come up a majority of the correct responses to the A STREAM OF TV category is a joke. There were 5 clues today about programs on 4 separate streaming services. To imply that the Average Joe or Jane have the time ...

Re: Notable Coronavirus Deaths
Everything I've read says Phil Spector died of natural causes. Are you certain about the COVID connection? Second paragraph of the New York Times obituary , for one: "The cause was complications of Covid-19, his daughter, Nicole Audrey Spector, said. He was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital in ...

Re: FJs for the 1/11/21 week
Sometimes whole shows are recaptioned for no apparent reason. I remember some GSN reruns dropped the original captions and re-did them but much worse, frequently condensing/abridging things, leaving off words and whole sentences. Newer shows are captioned much more accurately than older shows. In t...

Re: Ken Jennings as a Host Poll
No offense to Ken, but the reason I don't want him as permanent host is because then, anyone who Ken played against would be ineligible to be invited to future Jeopardy! tournaments because of the 1950s quiz show scandals... I think this is overstating the situation. Here's the actual Federal law a...

I have someone to whom I text the FJ! category and clue every night. She got LBJ immediately. I said only one of the contestants got it correct, and she responded, "The other two need to watch 'The Crown.'"

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread
Yeah I know. The only reason I follow J! on social media at all is they occasionally post pictures or video clips that I don't see elsewhere. The pitchforks are an amusing diversion, which is why I said it was completely anecdotal. I was just surprised at how quickly and how completely they about-f...

My closed caption is still spoiling every clue before KJ has finished reading it in some cases, and always before it is spoken. Anyone else? Or do most boardies eschew the CC? This might be an interesting poll question when we have a slow poll week. Contact your local station -- on their website, t...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread
I'd like to see Andy Richter get a guest-hosting spot, both as an excellent Celebrity J! player and someone who seems to really want to host a game show (he's done a good number of pilots). Obviously he's not quite an A-lister, but he has been on TV pretty consistently for almost 3 decades now.

Re: Reretaken Down
So weird... Bye Bye Birdie on IMDB? 7 514 ratings. The Accountant (generic Ben Affleck action flick that you probably didn't even know existed in 2016 when it came out), 259 139. The kind of people who give movie ratings on IMDB tend to be the kind of people who would have seen "The Accountant" but...

Re: Friday, January 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I don't remember the exact vocabulary, but I know there are generally two kinds of ads for syndicated shows - ads that are placed by your local station, and ads that are placed by the syndicator. For sitcoms, I think they add in the latter type of commercials, which causes some shows to eliminate a...

Re: Fun with ABC's "The Chase" [Spoilers]
I think they’re gonna rotate the chasers instead of all 3 in one episode. I can state this with absolute certainty. (Although two who don't play are going to be in that backstage area giving things the "MST3K" treatment.) Episode scheduled for January 14 (production number 105): the chaser is James...

Re: Thursday, January 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In is two songs but one recording track. So that means there were five songs from the musical that made the charts. Well, more like 4¼, based on how much of "Let the Sun Shine In (The Flesh Failures)" is actually included in that Fifth Dimension song. But, yes, the clue wo...

The recently released sequel, officially titled "Wonder Woman 1984," was being advertised as "WW84"... so I've recently seen some people on social media referring to the first film as "WW17."

Re: 2020 in review and what's in store for 2021
Just look at the stats when WWTBAM with Regis chose their contestants via solely the phone game. Jeopardy doesn't want 75-80% male contestants so they adjust accordingly. When I tried out for "The Chase," at the end of my one-on-one tryout, the contestant coordinator said, "We're still looking for ...
