Re: LL83: Learned League

There was a promo for Kangaroo where someone sang “Good morning, Captain”. Not just a promo, that was how the show started in the mid-to-late-'70s -- a montage of a few people (including some CBS personalities) saying "Good morning, Captain," Captain Kangaroo saying "good morning," and then into th...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I remember Romper Room being on WOR channel 9. Don't know if it was syndicated or just on the superstation. "Romper Room" was syndicated, although it was syndicated as a concept rather than as complete programs. Thus, each version was produced locally, with a different host. I definitely remember t...

I will be checking the box in the weekly poll stating that I teared up at Dhruv's FJ response. Before the Pacific time zone airings, it was pretty well spoiled on social media that there was an FJ! response that made Alex choke up, so I think I was too "prepared" for it to have a full impact on me.

At old ball stadiums, an organ, more likely, but I think most of the newer ball stadiums got rid of their organ systems and now it's just somebody pressing a sample button. About half the MLB stadiums have live organists at this point -- it's not really new versus old, it's just a matter of which t...

By the way, does anyone here have the foggiest clue what an "astronomy interpreter" is?
Presumably someone who works at a planetarium and/or under the actual stars, pointing out constellations and whatnot.

Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues

Neither is wholly correct - JFK was late fall, and Beatles were 1964. Figurative winter, not literal meteorological winter. Also, The Dream Academy was British, and the Beatles already had two albums out in the U.K. by late 1963 (in fact, their second album, "With the Beatles," was released the day...

Only finished second in the Steam Era Railroading 1DS! Well, I'm actually more of a fan of diesel-era railroading anyway.

it was announced this year...
As I said over in the Current Events thread, it hasn't been announced, though. The current official statement from the company is "“Gannett has no plans to discontinue the print edition of USA TODAY, which remains an important part of our business."

USA Today will stop publishing its paper, switching to online only.
As of now, this is only speculation (and it's been officially denied by USA Today's parent company).

I hate to do this, but Susan reminds me of Brett Somers; Anthony, Adam Scott; and Erin, Jillian Bell
If Brett Somers were still with us, this would be half of an excellent "Match Game" panel. (Jillian Bell has been on the current version, but not Adam Scott.)

Re: Friday, October 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Got the FJ because I had a weird flashback to the Mad magazine parody of the movie, and realized the play would seem controversial in that era. Now, of course, nobody would bat an eye. Larry Siegel, the writer of the parody, wanted to call it "Who in Hell Is Virginia Woolfe," but he wasn't allowed ...

I thought Schoolhouse Rock was a Jack Black movie from 2004 or something. I think you've made a lot of people on this board feel very old. For those, like you, who are unaware of the existence of these 1970s educational shorts (which ran, off and on, on the ABC network on Saturday mornings into the...
