Re: Monday, May 21, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm a bit ignorant of how the whole captioning process works, but I'm pretty sure it's not totally automatic for Jeopardy (because there are so many names in the 30 minutes). I wonder if whoever was captioning was copy/pasting for some reason (maybe spelling?) and just put them into the wrong spots...

ETA: MLB Network guys just said the combo of 3000th hit and no-hitter on same day is a first.
This was how the L.A. Times sports section headlined both achievements:

Re: Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I usually record part of Jeopardy and thus skip through the interviews, but didn't have that luxury today. The "I named my dog after Omar from The Wire but they have different personalities!" is one of the poorest I've ever heard. How did that get through the pre-show interviews? Because the contes...

For Randy's DD I said The Partridge Family. I don't recall the wording of the clue - was there something that leads one to the Monkees instead?
Stephen Stills was an adult by the mid-1960s. The Partridge Family were teenagers/kids (and Shirley Jones).

Seems weird to be talking about it being picked up by a streaming service when it was already on a streaming service -- but I guess Netflix and Amazon have deeper pockets than what's in the Crackle budget.

I had the pleasure of being at a 2 hour game three years ago: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SDN/SDN201505210.shtml It can be done! I still remember the 9-0 1:56 game I went to in 2004: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CLE/CLE200408290.shtml Scott Elarton got the complete game, pi...

Beau Brummel was mentioned in Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me”, that and a mention in a very early Garfield strip has helped me get him right at least once watching J! I’d like to think that he’s also part of pop culture, way before everyone’s time, and most people don’t know him. (I w...

ENTERTAINING ERAS $2000: A golden era of teen movies is sometimes named for this “Breakfast Club” director The writers knew this would play as bottom box. Re: Monday, April 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

i have actually found so far this year that on nationally televised games, the breaks between half innings are shorter than in the previous years... Yes, that's a change they made to speed up the game this season, along with limiting the number of mound visits. Have you been to an MLB game in the p...

Alex clowned on Daniel after the chat session with Daniel mentioning he likes to visit odd roadside attractions. Alex: You’re still in command of the board; I have no idea why. [Laughter] Pretty sure Alex's "I have no idea why" was a continuation of his thought that Daniel would like the statue of ...

Is there a single 2017 or 2018 Best Picture nominee that's not available either to stream on one of the major services (Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu) or available for purchase/rental for less than the cost of a movie ticket? Yeah, well, we all know TPH isn't going to do anything that takes any...

You've got the internet. You can stream all of the Best Picture nominees.
This is either illegal (some of this year's nominees are not officially available for streaming) or costs more money than, I would guess, TPH is willing to pay (e.g., $14.99 a month for HBO GO).

That was one tough set of questions. I was surprised Dixie polled as low as it did. I totally missed the surveyor connection, but after fishing around for a while, came up with it. I did think of Mason and Dixon, and had heard someone on a podcast on my drive to work refer to "whistling 'Dixie,'" I...

Something else from the ceremony that may get a J! mention is the phrase "inclusion rider" -- Frances McDormand advocated for them in her acceptance speech. (It's a contract provision -- usually something that an A-list actor would negotiate for -- guaranteeing diversity among the entire cast and cr...

contrary to the clue, and despite popular belief, "gambling" is *not* legal in new jersey. in 1976, new jersey voters approved a referendum, which led to the new jersey legislature approving an enabling act, which authorized only certain enumerated games of chance in certain limited areas. therefor...

I wonder if Alex had to dub in the movie debuting on March 9th instead of “this Friday”.
Yes, that was an incredibly obvious edit at the end of DJ!.
