Re: Friday, October 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Since when is delivery of hot dogs or apple pies a popular thing? I know it's not popular, but... I have friends who throw a party for Major League Baseball Opening Day every year, mailing out invitations, and a couple years ago, the invitation was a "make-your-own-Chicago-style-hot-dog" kit they'd...

Re: Fun with NBC's "The Weakest Link"

This question from Tuesday's show is incorrect -- it's "National Railroad Passenger Corporation." (In fact, before a marketing firm came up with the name "Amtrak," the organization was being referred to as "Railpax," an abbreviation of that phrase.)

An old friend of mine wrote the song "Boss of Me". Always nice to see a TMBG mention on the show.
Is this an oblique way of saying that John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants is an old friend of yours?

Re: Season 37 Preemptions

In the 21 years I've been living in L.A., this is the first time I've ever seen such a graphic used -- it was actually a three-part graphic to the effect of "Attention Los Angeles Jeopardy! Viewers/Due to Monday Night Football..." From the phrasing, and the design, I suspect J! actually sent a speci...

Re: Season 37 Preemptions

Because they're the local team, KABC is carrying that Chargers "Monday Night Football" game on Monday, October 12. As is their usual practice, J! is going to slide one day back for the rest of the week, with Friday's episode scheduled to air on Saturday at 9:00 P.M. The Tuesday broadcast (Monday's e...

As a Canadian, I was unfamiliar with the restaurant chain Ruby Tuesday. And yet I'm familiar with the restaurant chain The Keg (Steakhouse + Bar). (Which I see, having looked it up, that they do have some U.S. locations -- but I really only know it from their advertising behind home plate at Blue J...

Interesting that this is apparently going to be the name nationally, even in the Western states where the associated ice cream is branded as Dreyer's (not Edy's).

Tough couple of weeks for longtime St. Louis Cardinals fans, with the death of two legends of the game.
Made even tougher by the fact that they exited the playoffs in the first round, losing their Wild Card Series matchup to the San Diego Padres.

Re: Fun with NBC's "The Weakest Link"

The Tom Brady question pegs the filming at sometime after mid April, so this supposition might be correct, unless contestants are now flying and the filming is very recent? I'm Facebook friends with one of the writer/producers, and based on his posts, these episodes were taped in late August/early ...

So apparently, the contestants are from all across America and not just from California.
It's entirely possible that they were saying where they were originally from, rather than the California location where they live now.

Re: Notable Coronavirus Deaths

Jay Johnstone, 74, had a 20-year career as an outfielder for eight different Major League Baseball teams, then got into broadcasting and also did a little acting -- I remember him best as the leadoff hitter for the Seattle Mariners in the film "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" (Seattl...

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Hockey League season was suspended on March 12. Action resumed in what was called the "Return to Play" plan on August 1, with a modified playoff format that saw players and essential support staff quarantined within "the bubble" -- actually 2 locations, som...

Sorry about the relegation — unfortunately, Rule 10.4 will keep you from getting bumped up (probably… I haven't heard of any exceptions, though)
Fingers crossed that this is the season with "significant player realignment"!

Relegated to B! How will I ever survive? (I'll spend the offseason waiting to see if the Commissioner has to rejigger the rundle assignments and I end up back in A anyway... in addition to doing 1960s Music and the other two MLs.)

Honestly, you could show me pictures of Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Anna Kendrick, and I wouldn't be able to tell you which was which, and I'm FAR from allergic to pop culture.
The real challenge would be looking at pictures of Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

"Schitt's Creek" also won Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Andrew Cividino and Dan Levy shared the award for co-directing "Happy Endings," the show's final episode).

"Schitt's Creek" is the first show ever to win all seven Emmys that it was possible to win on the prime-time awards show.

On Monday, September 21st, "Monday Night Football" is back on ABC for one broadcast only, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The broadcast starts an hour earlier than it did when "MNF" was regularly on ABC -- 8:00 Eastern/5:00 Pacific. Therefore, KABC has J! scheduled to air after the game, at 9:00,...

Re: 2020 Jeopardy North American Audition Tour

Also, besides being watched by J! staff, should we be prepared to interact with them at all? This will be my third "in-person" audition, and in the past we had to answer a questionnaire that the staff referred to while talking to us individually. Just for additional clarification, the "second 50-qu...
