Re: Wednesday, March 13, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Writer Bill Oakley on Twitter responds, "odd that the captioners never looked at the actual script!" Do captioners generally have access to scripts? (paging trainman?) Back in my captioning days, we got scripts maybe 25% of the time (for new shows/new movies that would have had them avail...

Photo by me at St. Pancras station in 2014 -- it's hard to read behind the plastic barrier, but it does say "Eurostar" on the side of that train.

(No, I didn't take Eurostar. Maybe someday.)

Even before the State of the Union address, there's election coverage on Tuesday, March 5th.

KABC has J! scheduled for 1:03 A.M. (technically Wednesday, March 6th), but I'll pad my DVR recording, just in case.

The facts in this FJ! just came up in the Disney+ "Percy Jackson" series, which has a long scene set at the Gateway Arch. Turns out it's secretly a temple to Athena.

(Yes, I am a middle-aged man who watched a TV show primarily aimed at teenagers.)

Ken said "take note, Gen X" upon the category reveal, but only the oldest members of Gen X would have been old enough to see "Scarface" in the theater when it was released. Younger members of Gen X had to make do with the parody that appeared in MAD Magazine in 1984. (Or, possibl...

A record three producers of Best Picture nominees (Emma Stone, Margot Robbie , Bradley Cooper) were also nominated for acting. As many, many, many, many, many people pointed out on social media today, Margot Robbie was not nominated for acting this year (but she is a previous acting nominee for bot...

FJ! was a subject of an episode of Ken's podcast back in 2019.

I really enjoyed the "local port-a-potty service brand names" category.

Re: Celebrity Jeopardy! Tuesday, January 2, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Watching this episode while visiting my mother for the holidays led me to wonder whether or not there’s any noticeable ratings difference in markets where J! and CJ! air on the same station versus markets where they don’t (i.e., whether or not J! airs on an ABC affiliate).

Re: Mayim to no longer host syndicated Jeopardy!

Ike Barinholtz has been a LearnedLeague participant for 28 seasons now (just as long as me), so it’s not like he’s some random celebrity who lucked into the Celebrity Jeopardy! championship without having any trivia bonafides. (I think if he doesn’t do well in the ToC, it will be due to not being as...

Also, “shots of the crew holding up cue cards.” You know, it takes about 20 seconds to verify what’s actually in the new opening, and that is not one of the elements.

Ken noted that Southwest was founded in 1967, but before they put any planes in the air, their operational plans got tied up in lawsuits with other Texas-based airlines. By the time those got resolved, Southwest didn't actually start regular service until 1971 -- and that's the year they officially ...

I thought all the "Second Chance" clues were supposed to be reused from previous games? Some were clues written before the strike that hadn't been used on a show yet. (The 2023 Grammy Award ceremony was February 5th, which was plenty of time for clues about it to make it into the hopper b...

James Patterson’s books usually have over a hundred chapters. Granted, the chapters are all about three pages long, but they are still chapters unless there is some universal definition of a chapter. In the same vein, one of my favorite novels of recent years, "All Our Wrong Todays" by El...

For humor's sake, let's stick Bloom County somewhere near Waterloo. https://withinhours.com/95-miles-of-des-moines-ia Well, we know from other "Bloom County" strips that Bloom County is within broadcast range of KRNA (an Iowa City radio station) and folks get their magazines at Prairie Li...
