Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020
It's LL's version of the NFL's Black Monday, when losing coaches get shown the door. So today I fired my defensive coordinator, who compiled a DE of .529, lowest in the rundle by 29 points. As a result, I finished one game underwater at 10-11-4. Wait 'til next year!

Sarah Fuller becomes the first female to play in a Power 5 (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC or Pac-12) college football game, when she kicked off to start the 2nd half. Could've gotten more kicks in if Vanderbilt wasn't terrible... https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/vanderbilt/2020/11/28/van...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020
I got 11 right and didn't even qualify in my rundle (I was sixth)! My moneying wasn't superb, but it wasn't terrible either. The one I missed was "50 Shades of Grey." I put "Divergent." I had no clue on that question and went for BWA with "Vampire State of Mind". I got 8 out of 12, also missing Wag...

a spare is 10 plus the number of pins on the next roll. You get nothing for converting the spare in the 10th frame. But you do get a third ball in the tenth frame for converting the spare, right? Check out the scenario shown in this example. The bowler gets a third ball in the tenth frame due to co...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020
I'll admit to being surprised that bowling had the lowest get rate for the day. As luck would have it, there was a bowling score question in last week's bar trivia. The question was, "If a bowler gets 9 on the first roll and converts the spare on his second in every frame, what score would he end u...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020
I adopted a cat this year. My original intention was to name him "Zeus", but I brought him home on March 15, the Ides, so I decided to name him "Caesar" instead.

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020
I won my match yesterday, but I'm kind of irked because my opponent messed up my sterling defensive score by somehow missing "lithography" which I assigned zero points to. Art is his second worst category, but I figured this one was really more of a language question. OTOH he assigned zero to Beavi...

Normally, anion/cation would have been a coin flip. However, I adopted a cat this spring and went with cation. I celebrated by giving him a couple of extra treats.

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020
Johnson was a bit of negbait, but I knew the Bird/Magic NCAA Final was in 79 so ruled them out. I grew up in Lansing, Michigan, so that fact is etched in my brain. I didn't realize Moses Malone started in the NBA quite that early, but the late '90s sure seemed right for Karl's prime, so I was prett...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020
I knew EBITDA but didn’t pay attention before submitting and put EBIDTA. Turned a win into a tie. I misread the question about Scotland and thought he was asking for a term for what was beyond the frontier and put horizon. I made the very same mistake on EBITDlA. Not that it mattered, my opponent h...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020
That match was the KISS of death for me. Three points. It also didn't help that I had a brain freeze and answered "femto-" instead of "nano-". At least it counts as only one loss.

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020
Had Elizabeth, but somehow thought that the full name was Elizabethtown. That was the city's original name. When I was growing up, our local water utility was called the Elizabethtown Water Company (it is now called New Jersey American Water). The old name still appears on the World's Tallest Water...

A hearty congratulations to Boson for his MagA victory, his first ever! Thanks! I made my learned league flag into a car window mounted thing, and I'm driving across town honking my horn. Congrats to the other jboardies who qualified for the championship! It's just nuts that I hung on to finish thi...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread
A very satisfying 5(3)-4(4) victory. I used to work for a company that had 5 of the Whiz Kids. Of course, they weren't the ones who went to Ford, so I couldn't pull that one. I remembered that after I saw the answer. But yeah, I should have gotten that one. Ford was my first instinct and then I fig...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread
This is my 16th season and yesterday was (I'm pretty sure) my first 0(0). Is there a term for this? Goose eggs? Something more clever? Ireland was my first choice but I switched, for no good reason, to Spain (got zero for this anyways). Had no clue on the building but was about to wag barn when I o...
