Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

I mentioned this over on the LL forums already, but there was no such thing as a "1928 Porter" -- the car used in "My Mother the Car" was a highly modified version of an actual 1920s car, but it wasn't an Oldsmobile (and it didn't fit the "wildly unsafe" part of the question). That probably explain...

I said "My Mother the Car". I really thought that I had a chance on that one.
She was a 1928 Porter. That I remember from the show's theme song.

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

I went with "sculls," which is the name that is used in the Olympics. That was deemed corrected. Same here. Lost the match anyway. One of my two wrong answers was "Ashanti" in the Chaka Khan question. I should have gotten the latter because I once owned a Rufus album. I'm afraid the trivia headmast...

"Kardashian? Isn't that a Star Trek DS-9 alien species? I don't remember them being interested in basketball players"
I'd characterize the Kardashians as invasive species.

Today I saw 22% had curse word--did not expect that.
My guess was "loan word", thinking that English borrowed "carnival" from the German. Uh, no.

I'll hope you wash that guilt down with a good barleywine or maybe an imperial stout.
An imperial stout is like a motion to adjourn: it's always in order. So is a double IPA.

Jim Nabors of "Andy Griffith Show" and Gomer Pyle USMC" fame, passed away at age 87. Nabors was also part of sports lore: he sang "Back Home Again in Indiana" during the Indy 500 pre-race pageantry.

Odd goings-on in A Horizon. I'm 5-3-2, but three of the five wins were by forfeit. I'd like to stay out of the relegation zone, but I prefer to do it on the merits rather than have forfeit wins handed to me.

I was one of the many players who answered Q1 "Hinduism". Somewhat inexcusable, considering that my hometown has a substantial Sikh community; our public library recently sponsored a "Get to Know Your Sikh Neighbor" event ; and I've passed the Sikh temple, Gurdwara Sahib Singh Sabha of Michigan , co...

I'm watching the Northwestern-Georgia Tech basketball game. One of Northwestern's players is Charlie Hall, whose mom--a seven-time Emmy winner--came up on this evening's game.

Tied, 3(3)-3(3). Talked myself out of a win with a facepalm-worthy decision: changing "Palomino" to "Pinto" at the last minute. My answer for the M.F.K. Fisher question was "travel" because I had read her Two Towns in Provence . I wasn't aware that she was best known for food writing; and, in fact, ...

Plus, I probably had some residual memory from my visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Nashville, and/or from watching Walk the Line , that helped me on this one.
