Re: TD 434 - Another Short Quiz - Final Scores

so they went alliterative with the all of the names of the pierogies except for 1? any idea why jalapeno hannah instead of say jalaepno juanita? a phonetic thing? Jalapeno Hannah is alliterative, Jalapeno Juanita is not. I'm more disturbed by the switch in nomenclature order for the onion one.

Re: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For anyone misparsing the FJ! clue, I'd recommend the one technique I've learned painfully from misinterpreting clues myself: look for THIS. Literally, the word "this". I think in almost every FJ!, the correct response replaces the word "this" in some sense...I read it somewhere in here or online s...

Re: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was a little surprised to see this TS in final. When I think of major beneficiaries of this internal migration, I think of Arizona and Nevada, and those don't signal 'Bible Belt' to me. I was very excited to get one that James got wrong, but then thought maybe this was gamesmanship. In a similar n...

Anyone else pronounce "diabetes" in the style of Wilford Brimley?
Nope. I usually go with 'the BEET-us', or simply 'the sugar'.

This quiz has two errors. Nashville, TN is NOT one of the correct answers, as even the information above the quiz proper points out. And Columbia, SC is omitted as a correct answer. Columbia should replace Nashville. No, the quiz is correct on both counts. That article is out of date. The problem i...

Guyana, French Guyana, Suriname.

Why do those, along with every single South American country, completely fall out of my head whenever I need them?
It's the holes.

I wonder if we should change the name of this game from 'Think Different' to 'Confirmation Bias'.

Re: Tuesday, November 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I found the use of the term 'urban places' in the FJ! clue a bit confusing. Are we talking just about city populations, or are we talking 'urban area' or Metropolitan Statistical Area (many of which cross state boundaries)? Both Worcester and Springfield, MA (+ CT) show up in the top 100 of the latt...

Re: FJs for the 10/28/19 week

I was really close to saying dumbbell, but caught myself with “wait, those don’t have handles” and getting to kettlebell. They don't? I guess there are dumbbells that are like mini barbells, where you add weights to a bar, but most of the dumbbells I see are fixed weight, and what is that thing bet...

I didn’t see the show live, so I didn’t see the Exercise clue. Any indication why dumbbell would not have been acceptable? Unlike barbells, the handles on dumbbells are also attached.

Maybe a poll question could be: 'I had the same answer as the contestants until I read the second half of the clue.' I wonder how high Pentecost rises on the 'inside baseball' scale re Christianity. I wonder what an equivalent event or term might be for other major religions, and would J! contestant...

Why no other Hemingways here so far?
I was a Hemingway. But for no other reason than I ruled out Steinbeck, because obviously the date was wrong for Grapes of Wrath. &^%$#@!!!
Hemingway might have been a good guess, if the clue text read more like: ‘Sometimes it was dry, sometimes wet.’

I wasn't assigning blame, but it was at least somewhat implied that engineers were responsible given Kirk's comment. Interesting. I read Kirk!'s comments exactly the opposite: that engineers are involved to make sure the architects' pretty designs don't fall down. Exactly. So when the pretty design...

Ahem, engineers. What's the difference? (I'm hoping for at least one punchline supplied by each side here.) An architect could design a pretty bridge, but without the help of a civil engineer that pretty bridge could end up in the river rather than spanning it. :D But only if it's used incorrectly .

Welp. That's disappointing.
The FJ! clue going 0/3, the winner's total, the winner herself, the leader not winning? Other?
Clearly I was unclear. After getting my rear end kicked on FJ! lately, I thought for sure this one would score higher. Hugo’s point is well taken.
