Re: Thursday, April 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I saw "C. King," interpreted it as a substitute for the word "seeking," and thought it hinted towards sight, or lack thereof. I went with Daredevil. You know a champ is dominant when you lament to yourself about how he only won $74,000. I wonder how much longer it will take him to crack seven figure...

Re: Tuesday, April 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

$13K for James at the end of the Jeopardy round, without even finding the DD! FWIW the Daily Double was found on clue 2. Still, it was a bottom row clue and he bet the maximum $1000 he could at the time, which means his $13K total at the end of the first round was also his Coryat score. In that cas...

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer

Very awful news, but it's reassuring to see that he's handling it with courage and humour. Here's to hoping that he can beat it.

Re: Friday, March 1, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Obviously Colby knew the right person in FJ but picked his second term (when he ran for re-election) rather than his first (when the clue would have applied). I made this mistake as well. I had it pinned to Eisenhower, wrote down 1952, then realized "wait, he won in '56 also," so I changed my answe...

Re: Wednesday, February 27, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I've definitely heard of the Velvet Revolution, but I didn't know the term was used in that sense, and also, when I saw Havel's name, I thought of Prague Spring instead. I just said "peaceful transition." Simple, I know, but I had nothing better. Another Ken vs. Brad final in a high level tournament...

Re: Friday, February 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had a flawed thought process for FJ that I abandoned, but it wouldn't have gotten me anywhere anyway. I knew McKinley was killed in Buffalo, so I thought about women activists who might be associated with NY, thought of the Seneca Falls Convention, and tried to remember who was most strongly assoc...

I had a streak of 15 broken when I said David Cameron for Thursday.

Never seen Jersey Boys or The Handmaid's Tale.

Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

This is Spike Lee's first nomination, which is unbelievable. It's his first for Best Director, but he was nominated for Best Documentary for Four Little Girls . It may also be worth noting that he received an Honorary Oscar in 2015 and that he also got a nomination for 1989 for writing Do the Right...

I've heard of chateaubriand before, but there was no way I was going to drudge that up in time. Never seen any version of The Seven...

I should've had El Dorado, but my brain completely froze and I couldn't recall it in time. I'd love to try and binge The Sopranos someday, but for now, I'v...

:?: :( :(  :( :( :( This is the first time since the week of November 5th that I didn't go 4/5. Spoiled on a clue yet again, this time on Monday's clue. Thought "peace through strength" referred to Woodrow Wilson's policy of collective security, so I went straight to him. Went wit...

Host of the Oscars on February 24, 2019 (That means for movies released in 2018): Kevin Hart
Comedian George Wallace posted a thread on Twitter on how he'd host the Oscars, and I gotta say, I wish it were him instead.

I've never seen E.T. but this was still an instaget for me. I once read that Princess Diana cried at the end of that movie and that "dry eye" part of the clue brought it to mind. The champ is doing great. I am a merry fan of Mary Ann. I couldn't have said it better myself. Well played.

Has there ever been a champ from Prince Edward Island before? I'm fairly certain he's the first. Oh well, I can live with being the second one day. *knocks on wood* I'm glad I wasn't in his shoes though, because I missed FJ. I said Fiat, knowing it was probably wrong but blanking on names that star...

Tall and tan and young and lovely, the girl from Eponymouse goes walking... Dyson came to mind immediately and I couldn't think of anyone better. Now that I think about it, the Ballbarrow was a bigger TOM than I first realized, since I remember those Dyson commercials touting vacuums with a similar ...

I instantly wrote down Beowulf on Tuesday, forgetting that the clue hinted towards the monster of the story. Cost me a 5/5 week.

Zymase is a NHO from me also.

I drew a complete blank on FJ. I said Mary Poppins just to have something. But at least Alan won, so it lessens the sting a little bit since I've been cheering for him. I'm happy to see he's punched a ticket for the ToC. The $200 clue in THE GOAL OF THE GAME: Identify a person or thing within a sco...
