Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Pacific), January 30, 2020

I usually wait to the last day and maybe I should have this time: 38 in my real go on Tuesday, 38 yesterday, and then 43-44 today (depending if "pirouet" is acceptable) which would have been a record.

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020

38 for real yesterday, 38 for fake today. Are they making them particularly easy at the start? Both nights I've started strong and faded mid to late.

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), January 28, 2020

Most annoying miss was answering the wrong question on the Bible...concentrated on “him” and thought they were looking for the man and totally overlooked “this book”. Also blanked on a couple and lost a couple of coin tosses. Still, managed 39. We’ll see. Yeah, I nearly made that mistake as well. T...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I guess "Ken Jennings using James Holzhauer's tactics" is now the...ahem, "GOAT" (the pervasive application or misapplication of this acronym to a certain Boston athlete has rendered it irksome to me). At least until further notice: it was a close match between the two of them, and Brad does of cour...

I got the DD that James missed. That's all I remember and I'm taking that with me to my dying day.
Yeah well I got the second FJ and they all missed that! Although James and Brad may have just gone straight to the gags given their position in the game.

Re: Friday, May 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So we were that close to the first 4-figure total from James I beg to differ. I don't think for a second he's going to seriously answer Las Vegas when the clue specifies Idaho. If you ask me, he's circumventing the new shout out rule. I could be wrong, but that's what immediately came to mind. You'...

Re: Thursday, April 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Another game so strange with $90K+ on the low end of what James could have won by going stronger than the 11Ks on DD2 & DD3. It's frightening to think how even more-staggering James's overall winnings would be if he didn't constantly leave money on the table that he could have safely wagered. And y...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I think, but I'm not sure because even immediately after the test I don't remember every single one of my answers (bodes well if I ever made it on, huh?), but I think I got 36 (so maybe I don't have to worry about making it on). Would be in DC.

Re: J! and other notable contestants on The Chase (possible J! spoilers)

I guess this counts (maybe) - According to Wikipedia, Brad Rutter filmed a U.S. pilot as a Chaser, but the citation is an archive.org copy of a paywalled article. Fortunately a Twitter search reveals:

Re: Friday, April 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

That has a direct relation with coryat that I already addressed. To be clear, I am not claiming he is doing better on coryat than Ken, because that is untrue. But I think there are extenuating factors that explain the (small) margin. On a purely knowledge basis I think they are probable equals. On ...

At his current rate he would pass Jennings in regular play cash winnings in Game 43. Imagine if clue values paced inflation.

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

no draft in game discussion? Looks to me like Brad Rutter's got a pretty good shot to add 333K to his lifetime winnings. And for competitive purposes, it's a good thing Brad and Ken Jennings didn't pick early enough to get Roger Craig. If Roger had fallen to Ken I couldn't imagine that team losing ...

Re: Friday, July 27, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I missed the word "died" in the clue and thought the battle took place in 1854, which didn't make sense, so I tried to think of a) what they called Kansas-Nebraska, and b) some sort of skirmish with Native Americans. Oh well.

I can't be the only one surprised we're already done seeing Dave on Jeopardy.

Obvious FJ in retrospect, but I couldn't do better than Czechia and Slovakia. 1990 threw me. I did think of North Korea but, unbelievably, not China, just Russia and South Korea (which would of course be terribly wrong).

Re: Friday, July 20, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Did Dave really not know it or are we back to mind games of past champs with a lock and zero wager of not wanting to give away knowledge of an area, looking ahead to TOC strategy? :) Someone actually did that? Alex seemed thrown off near the end of DJ when Dave pronounced the leader of Turkey as er...

Re: Monday, July 2, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

That was a rough start to the game with two players still in the red at DD1. BOOK OF THE MONTH wanted a response with a month of the year. One of the 12. Seems simple enough, yet grasping that categorical hint seemed to fly over the heads of the players. We also had two guesses of countries in the ...

Re: Thursday, June 28, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Okay I am pretty sure that is the first time I've ever heard IRA pronounced as a word instead of the initials. It really started to get to me around the $1200 clue lol. Mentioning the deaths caused by the "Great Leap Forward" makes up a bit for the nonchalant reference to Che as merely a "revolution...
