Re: Millionaire 2017-18 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

But whereas I can understand someone who is not into movies struggling with that one, Dan has no one to blame but himself for missing the $7k question. Even if he is bad pop culture (although I'm shaky on it and knew Rihanna was from Barbados), it is either foolhardy or lazy not to look up all the ...

Re: Wednesday, April 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I have worked as a dealer in a Washington state cardroom for almost ten years. As far as I'm concerned, a croupier is anyone who is in charge of maintaining a gaming table, be it cards, roulette, or dice. I myself have only ever dealt cards.

The movie question for $50k was very easy for me, but I would have been eliminated on $10k. As someone who frequently hard boils eggs, I would never in a million years use that method.
But would you prepare any of the other three that way?

Re: Monday, April 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'll be bold and nominate this for game of the season. Rebecca played like a champion, and save for that one clue, she'd have been the champion. All in on FJ wasn't optimal, but nobody's perfect. Could a case be made for an even bigger DD wager in her spot? Or was $8,000 a sweet spot? Could she come...

Fritz Holznagel will try to be the next one tomorrow.
Retroactive good luck to him!

Has Dan Melia done Millionaire? If he does, that'll create another Jeopardy episode where all three contestants were, or became, Millionaire alums. To my knowledge, this is the only such game.

32/50 if you accept "Hot sping" in a frantic attempt to get "Hot Springs" down in time. Not passing, but a personal best.

Re: Trivia about Trivia: Obscure Record Holders

I've just seen a comment on Facebook where Jeff Richmond pointed out that he has played FJ alone ( in the UToC ), against one other person ( in his second game ), against two others (in all his games not linked here), and against three others ( in the Super Jeopardy quarterfinals ). Safe to assume ...

Re: Millionaire 2017-18 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm curious whether that bit about MMMBop is well known. My reaction was along the lines of 'you gotta be effing kidding me with that question, Millionaire', but then I utterly despacito despised that song so I sure as hell never cared about the lyrics. Maybe it's obvious in context, or just a musi...

Congrats to Ryan on a great showing!
It must be nice to be able to change your DD wager after the clue gets revealed...
I was gonna say, how often does this happen? I thought they were strict on that.

Re: HQ Trivia

HQ has spawned a few clones. One of which is quite a treat. Its called "The Cash Show" . Just like HQ, you play 12 questions, but in The Cash Show, payouts begin at question six. The result is easier, smaller wins. The best part for HQ fans is that each episode is one half hour after HQ: 3:30pm ET a...

Re: On the subject of "No harm, no foul."

Last time I talked about this scenario with someone, we briefly talked about the idea of a stumped leader purposely ringing in with a not-in-the-form-of-a-question response to try and coax second place into an incorrect rebound.

I've got to say it warms my heart to see a slew of Jeopardy alumni band up to defend Lisa from naysayers on Twitter right now. It looks like they really are a close knit circle, one that I hope to have the privilege of joining one day.

Gotta feel for Lisa. She seemed absolutely crushed to lose this game. I thought I could make out Alex saying to her "That's OK... that's OK..." during the credits.

Re: Who Wants to be a Millionaire before Jeopardy

Same goes for Bill MacDonald. He was on Millionaire in 1999, and later made a run on Jeopardy. To date, he's one of only three people to win at least six figures on both shows. If you include my $2000 consolation prize when I lost the fifth J! game, there are four. 125K on Millionaire, 100,901 on J...

Congratulations on a great win, Scarlett! You earned every dollar, and here's hoping you go on a run of your own. Would love to see a rematch in the ToC! I had a hunch Austin would lose today just because he's going to be on the Tonight Show tonight. I know he was on GMA already, but it seemed to me...
