Re: Tuesday, September 19, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Not a chance. I'm not sure that "Royal Crown," by itself, should have been acceptable, despite what Alex said. It might have been, but "this Canadian whisky brand" seems pretty clear to me the expected response was Crown Royal, not Royal Crown. . He said "We'll accept either" before answers were re...

Re: Tuesday, September 19, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Would they have accepted "RC Cola" from someone who didn't know about Crown Royal, nor what RC stood for, and was guessing a random cola just to have something?

Funny how I've been aware of RC Cola all these years, but never curious enough to find out what RC stood for. I went "Dr. Pepper,"

Destroyed the J! board today - I ran Stock Symbols & Animated Felines, and got Lach Trash of stationary stationery, chilly chili, LBJ, and rust.

FJ was an instaget - it said Global Organizations and the FOP is just in the US.

Instaget FJ. I was hoping the betting police would be on call. You did not disappoint. :geek: The sad thing is that we keep waiting for a tiebreaker clue. This game dangled the possibility in front of us. We had the right scenario going into FJ. All we needed was a) Larry to bet correctly (check), ...

I knew the right person instantly, but I wanted to make sure I said "Richard Branson" instead of "Richard Bronson" (thinking of Charles Bronson); I've mixed the names up in past games.
Write it in cursive so that it looks like both an "a" and an "o".

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

If the category is Alabama cities, then I expect Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Mobile, etc, not some small four corners that doesn't even have a Subway. It was Alabama cities that begin with O. I doubt many people not from here could name any. That is why they gave you hints. FWIW, two of the...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

So even though they gave you a TOM on a silver platter, you dismissed the possibility that a medium-sized state could contain a tiny town named [insert city name here] that you'd never heard of? How many Alabama towns do you actually know? Unless you know like 99% of them offhand, that's pretty self...

There's aioli again. I still don't get why I should know what it is.
because they keep asking for it on Jeopardy? If I understand it correctly, you're asking why the trivia questions are on such trivial facts.

Back in Black for $200 was a coinflip on Marvel/DC.
The clue implied that their movies were good. That narrows it down for me.

I got bit by the George Carlin/Robin William negbait - that quote sounded very George Carlin.

Re: A (perhaps unpopular) suggestion

I wonder if a player would get tired of doing it if they kept winning and having to redo it every game, "And I'm Ken Jennings, apparently a professional game show player, formerly from Salt Lake City, now living in a hotel down the road from the studio. I've accumulated $1,347,202, and here is my ne...

Re: A (perhaps unpopular) suggestion

It's been bandied about a few times in the Jeopardy! fan community who will replace Johnny when he retires (not nearly as much as the "who would replace Alex?" question). I just had an idea: after watching the end of the Teachers Quarterfinals in the Jeopardy Hiatus Repeats and seeing the winners a...

There are plenty of other ways the smartest player could lose, such as categries being in his blind spots or a less-smart player getting an insurmountable lead with Daily Doubles.
