Greek seemed very YEKIOYD too.
As Alanis Morisette one said, "You oughta know," because not only is a lot of the English language derived from Greek, but it's extremely prominent in science, so memorizing those gives you an edge in two categories for the price of one.

Re: Monday, November 20, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was clueless on FJ - am I to assume that 9 times out of 10, "Albanian" is a TOM for Mother Teresa? Not that I'm complaing, quite the opposite I'm happy if this is so because it means I'll get it every time they use it in the future. Coryat of $2200, and no I'm not forgetting a zero there. Lowlight...

Is there a minimum number of games you can win to guarantee a spot in the next ToC?

Re: Friday, November 17, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was surprised to see "Black Keys" as a bottom-row DD in a ToC final. The challenge there was not overthinking it and trying to come up with a more technical name. I feel ashamed because I know who the Black Keys are. I know what black keys are on a piano. But I still said "The Accidentals". I thi...

I was surprised to see "Black Keys" as a bottom-row DD in a ToC final. The challenge there was not overthinking it and trying to come up with a more technical name. I shouted out "NO!" when Alan answered his DD with "Freudian slip," in the seconds before I had been pondering it, but realized it didn...

Re: Thursday, November 16, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm mad about the "s"es being negged in the Triple Rhyme Time category. Have the judges ever called anyone out on that in Jeopardy before? I can't recall any call-outs. Seems a little extreme. Not to mention they've had several slant rhymes as correct in the rhyme time categories before. Ugh. Yes -...

Re: Wednesday, November 15, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

RECENT TV EPISODES $800: “Better Call Saul” & “Our Man in Damascus” I’ll be the first to post that I got caught. It’s not quite a trap or negbait with the last word there to prevent the neg, but in the second box I proved how easy it is to go for something without having the time to take in the clu...

I too settled on Godot pretty quickly because it was the only play that I knew with 100% certainty was an all-male cast. I feel bad for Lisa - a very frustrating scenario to be in

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I think you’d be better off polling “solar wind.” It was harder due to lack of TOM and plausible alternative in “ozone.”

NHO Hamlin, but fair game on them for asking for a VP of the most famous presidents in history. Unlike many fans I really don't appreciate Austin's 'clever' repartee and his odd gestures. IMHO it's an intimidation tactic designed to distract fellow contestants. It's apparent that he won tonite becau...

Wow, Alan mopped the floor with Austin. Even if he doesn't win the ToC, that's a real feather in his cap. Stoked to see Austin's recovery that all but guarantees he's still alive

Re: Tuesday, November 7, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

The clue about the injuries by helicopter of Dr. Romano on ER was familiar to any lLama. :D That particular clue makes me think one of the Jeopardy! writers may be a Llama. I got FJ and it came down to a decision between whether Swaziland or Lesotho was farther south. I assumed all three players wo...

1812 Overture seemed way too easy, so I figured it had to be something else.
Consider this - at least once a month, there's an FJ question that gets called "Teen Tournament-level." Given that, there's no reason to reject an obvious-seeming answer when you don't have a better one.

Were they being honorable to not pick up the steal after Buzzy whiffed on "Ford Fusion?"

I don't know diddly about the Battle of Borodino, but spotted "Battle" and "Sometime in the 1810's," even I could get it.

Re: Maintaining Confidentiality of Who Has Won on Jeopardy!

A coworker told me that her husband “brought multiple outfits and needed them.” Noe I’m glad I didn’t repeat that to anyone. Maybe the producers didn't like the one he intended to wear for his first and only show? I'm guessing this isn't the case though, but could happen. . Nah, this a while ago - ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

It’s sort of like a Pythagorean triple, where this combination of numbers works out so cleanly that it’s memorable, and thus you can get the third piece instantly if you have two pieces. If you’ve never heard of that, well the Jeopardy giverth and the Jeopardy taketh away, but hopefully you trust m...
