A modest proposal

I was thinking of ways to change the rules of Jeopardy to make it a more interesting game. Why not do the following: After a question is asked, the signalling devices become active, and the first player pushes the button, start a timer for some small duration (about 300 msec). When that window has e...

My misses: 5-sikhism 7-michener 11-regatta 12-ontario 14-cornwell 15-john quincy adams 18-nave 10-eat pray love 25-tierra del fuego 26-law and order 37-jennifer aniston 45-ta-nehsisi coates I totally blanked on all of them, except 5 (hinduism) 12 (erie) and 18 (foyer). I felt pretty dumb missing a f...

Re: Thursday, July 16, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I really hated watching her. I've never hoped so strongly for someone to lose. Alex was only encouraging her which bothered me even more.

Anyway, I thought the answer was Dumas. I knew I'd seen photographs of him, so I thought he died a little later. (he actually died in 1870).

Re: Wednesday, June 3, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Regular Jeopardy was really hard today, much harder than Double. I mostly just stared at the screen. I got a few clues they all missed, like Pampalona but I made some of the same mistakes like guessing Medina. Final was easy, but not insta-get. I took me maybe 5 seconds or so. I was surprised no one...

Re: Monday, June 1, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I thought the FJ was either free throw or 3 point shot. I got the Middle Earth question, but it seemed extremely difficult for the value. I wouldn't expect anyone other than a hardcore Tolkien fan to know about the Bay of Belfalas (the easiest of the three). Why not go with Misty Mountains, Umbar, G...

It should be won by kids who take it way too seriously. Every competitive event will always be won by the contestants with the most raw talent and the most dedication and training. Who cares if they're Indian?

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I think it's just an act. My girlfriend is from the same part of Michigan and she never went to college and she still gets all the answers he "misses" so I don't think that's a legitimate excuse for not knowing (for example) that Julius Caesar was assassinated. I just googled "most famous assassinat...

I also guessed tarmac for pavement named after a Scot, I was shocked to hear it wasn't correct. I also guessed Crimea and Boer in the same order for the mysterious war. Edit: I don't want to be a dick but Caesar was so easy I wish they wouldn't even run questions that obvious. A Roman with a laurel ...

Re: Friday, May 15, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I saw Penn in Vegas about a last April and he looked like a completely different person. It doesn't look good to lose weight at a certain age. Well, Celebrity Jeopardy sure is something. I was looking forward to it because I've never seen it before but the questions were so easy and the contestants ...

Instaget FJ, but when Mr. Wonderful's "Wright Bros" was revealed I actually thought he got it right and I was wrong until Trebek spoke up. (it was a good guess, bikes+motors, I would be surprised if they didn't build motorbikes before airplanes) Interesting that the athlete won, I guess J! is all ab...

Re: Wednesday, April 29, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Wow. That was a hard FJ. As soon the category was revealed I said out loud "I bet it's Radioshack going out of business", because I thought it would be something non-controversial and I knew it was taped several months ago. When the clue appeared on the screen I recognized that it was submarine rela...

I didn't have a clue about FJ. When I saw the topic I considered, "Maybe its Prince William and Kate Middleton", but when I saw the actual clue I didn't even consider it a possibility.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

The Finnish call it Itameri & the Germans call it Ostsee. What's the tease-out metric? Why doesn't the clue ask "What body of water lies between Germany and Finland?" Very simple. This way the viewers learn something. I learn something every time I watch Jeopardy, even on clues where I already know...
