Re: Monday, May 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm not only below 40, but below 30, and I've not only heard of it, I've seen it, and own it on two different formats. Half the archive hits I get by doing "born on the fourth of july" site:j-archive.com are false positives (i.e., category names, clues saying that a famous person was born on the Fo...

Re: Monday, May 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Welcome Back James!! RETURN OF THE KING!! 73 TO GO!! OK, I give up. 73 WHAT to go until WHAT? He needs another 51 games to tie KJ's record for wins, and even with "normal" wins (not the kind he has been cranking out) he passes KJ's regular season $$ total long before that. Soooooo, again what is 73...

Really hope he can clear out this week without missing another clue; that would get him down to 1.00 wrong per game.

Re: FJ Wager Plus/Minus scoring: an alternate statistic

For years I figured $200,000 in 5 days was a good benchmark since Frank Spangenburg got $100,000 in his run. Since it has never been done, I just thought he was the best; but this really puts it in perspective, he's 12th on this list. Same. Really goes to show the advantages of Martianing wagers an...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

It's not worth giving these writers the clicks. True, I have changed my signature. I have also contacted the King James Holzhauer website with a suggestion that they make a section called "The Hecklers of Holzhauer" (alternatively "The Haters of Holzhauer") wherein they could compile some of these ...

Re: Monday, May 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I mean that was... fine, but people really prefer this to the King, who has recorded scores literally double and triple their combined score, has Coryats far above their combined Coryat, and takes weeks to get as many incorrect responses as they did? I, for one, definitely preferred this game to wh...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

is weird...jennings is the only person that the holzhauer dude follows on twitter Last week James followed three: David Madden, Julia Collins and Ken Jennings. As he passed 19 & 20 he unfollowed the corresponding champ, leaving just the one. Actually he started following Brad yesterday. Classic. Sh...

Re: Consecutive Final Jeopardy record at risk?

Unfortunately you missed Mr. Kilimanjaro in your first game I never heard of a mister Kilimanjaro although I know a mr. Fuji, a mister Logan, a mr. Everest And a mister McKinley. Also a Ms. Whitney, but she proved to be haughty and contemptuous so I don't regard her as someone I know anymore. Wow.....

Re: Monday, April 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

A lot is being made of the fact that Adam is the highest-scoring finalist in history. I don't see a lot being made of the fact that Adam now has the highest first-day score of anyone in history. This didn't click even to myself until last night when I woke up, and that fact occurred to me, and I fel...

Re: Monday, April 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Fun game... shame Adam had to lose as he seemed like an excellent contestant, but I was rooting for James. Adam probably would have been a 7-game champ or so, but I expect James to be around three or four times that long still. Anyways, it was cool to see James grind out a win on Friday with no DDs,...

Re: Consecutive Final Jeopardy record at risk?

Cool. Unfortunately it appears your CC SF and final games are not archived, but I guess those are the ones you got right. Too bad you missed Mr. Kilimanjaro in your first game, otherwise you'd have a mind-boggling 13/13 perfect score over nearly 25 years of play. Either way, most impressive, I alway...

Re: Rule Change Effective 4/29/19 - No More FJ! Shout-Outs

I think it's too bad but I see why they did it.

My real concern is if they decide to ban wagers that aren't a multiple of $200 (or, less extremely, wagers than aren't a multiple of some number greater than 1). It's both a legitimate strategic move and a fun mental game to use such numbers.

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

Of all the pearl-clutching and hang-wringing about King James Holzhauer, this is by far the funniest and most over-the-top, in fact I have given it a sterling place in my signature, along with a fact that I am proud of. You spelled "Jeopardy" wrong. LOL thanks! For five years I toot my own horn wit...
