Re: Tuesday, March 2, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Speaking of Jon, that DD3 wager. Yikes. He needed $2401 for the lock, took his time and did the math, and wagered $2000. Luckily, the sole FJ! solve rendered the issue moot. You could say he he didn't want to restrict his earning potential on a close lock FJ wager. But that obviously wasn't the cas...

Re: Monday, March 1, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To the contestants who did not get the John Young & Robert Crippen visual clue: Did you see what they were holding? Are video clues that tough in the studio? So strange. That one blew my mind. Someone should have gotten that one even without the photo. After reading more comments around the web I'm...

Re: Thursday, February 25, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Aaron's chat time provided an interesting bit of trivia about the 'Pine Tar game" that I'd never heard before. Like our current champ, 80s movies are my wheelhouse, although looking back, I can see how the category could be tough since it relied a lot on character names. I'm 4/5 for actually seeing ...

Re: Thursday, February 25, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Michael's Final wager may not have been enough to cover 3rd place doubling up but it was good strategy against anything Marisa did with an incorrect response. It turned out to be a well timed gamble with that tough clue.

Sorry to see Aaron go.

Good high scoring game with an unfortunate end for Ken.
He was unable to pull one out of his ass when he needed it most.

Re: Monday, February 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

You could just see David deflate after the DD miss. How heartbreaking that had to be. I felt sorry for him...but that was a HUGE wager in a category that wasn't just knowledge-based. I wonder if he was partly inspired to go big based on how easy DD2 was, that Sam benefitted from. "Who was assasinat...

Re: Wednesday, February 17, 2021 wagering

If Phil bets just enough to beat a doubling bet by Natalie, he beats Andy $7,999 to $1,999. Except in the case of a well-wagered game he still would have lost to Natalie if she would ever realize she has no chance of winning on an all-in bet, so she must bet $800 or less to win on the TS. I wouldn'...

Re: Thursday, February 11, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Maritime Disasters and The Title Instrument were nice plums for me. Knew Andrea Doria cold; my parents had kept an original July 1956 issue of LIFE magazine covering the event. It contained spectacular airial photographs of the sinking. Enough lach trash in that category alone to win on a TS, thanks...

Re: Tuesday, February 9, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Morgan sure didn't put much preasure on John in that Final. There wasn't any reason not to bet at least $5999. I went with New Hampshire, because it's similar to asking about the shortest coastline on Lake Michigan. Didn't bother to think of anything else. In hindsight, I realize over 3,000 miles in...

NHO "Goo Goo Clusters", my only miss in the category. I got that one with confidence, but have absolutely no flippin' idea how I knew it. I got it because one of my favorite NASCAR drivers had it for the main sponsor on his car back in the day. Nicole was 3/3 on wagering clues on the way to a lock ...

Re: Tuesday, February 2, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

i dont understand wagering 0 in Final, But it Worked for Steve. He could only bet $1,799 and avoid being passed from behind. The leader was very likely to bet big given her narrow lead. Even more certain with her being an author. He couldn’t protect against her zero bet without risking second place...

Re: Wednesday, January 27, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I have no problem with Brian making a non-cover bet in this situation, but I see a complete absence of strategy in wagering zero, even if he knows he is weak in the category. IMO He had nothing to lose by wagering 600-999, and would vastly improve his winning chances over a cautious wager by Alex in...

Re: Wednesday, January 20, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm shocked that the wagering police have not put in an appearance on the board after today's FJ. Did I miss a memo declaring a moratorium on wager-related finger-wagging? Was my comment too tepid? I knew I should have scolded more! It's a good thing for poor Hannah that Brian got it right. Nothing...

Re: Monday, January 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The problem is that Jennifer's incentivized wager is *too* small, since Donesh's bet is too big to save him on the double stumper if she's betting in the $1,601-$4,800 range that makes the most sense for her here. If Donesh wants to be clever here, his wager needs to be WAY smaller. I guess that I'...

Re: Monday, January 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I enjoyed Jennifer's savvy wagering over the past two games. Helen got away with a bad one. Congrats to Donesh on a game well played, although he also got away with a FJ wager. Maybe Donesh had a hunch that Jennifer would wager wisely. She actually could have bumped her wager by 1299, but it still ...

Brett's game just came right off the rails after he got the rebound on the Declaration of Independence. Peeved that they didn't finish the AUTOMOBILES category. Lucy took a silly guess at the 2000 clue, then managed to snipe the Ford clue to bail out of that category with time running out. :x I'll b...

Another bit of Irony: One of the TS responses was Prestidigitation . I think the only time I ever heard that word before was in an episode of Gilligan's Island .
