Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues

Got it! Nice one. You probably could have gotten rid of some or all of the TOM after the semicolon and made people think: - States with 2+ teams: Florida, Texas, Ohio, Penn, New Jersey, California, Missouri (for a while) - Florida: Dolphins/Jags vs. Bucs? Haha, no. - Ohio: Browns/Bengals, ROTFLOL n...

Re: Thursday, September 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

If he does get to 30+ wins, he would also become the third player to win $1M in regular play; I am sure it would take him just as long as it took Ken to reach the $1M mark should he get that far. At his current rate, he will need at least 35 wins to reach $1M. He can chalk up a runaway game like Ja...

Re: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Upon closer inspection, Jason's bet probably wasn't optimal either. Wagering 100 less would have prevented Helen from overtaking him on a triple stumper and guaranteed no less than a tiebreaker if he got it right. This was actually a more interesting scenario than it seemed at first glance. Jason's...

Re: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Now, would someone please tell me the optimal FJ wager for second place? I did the math and came up with 2,701 min / 9,499 max ETA: I didn't recognize the scenario First = Second + 1/2 Third! I didn't even know that was a scenario worth remembering! Good grief  FWIW, The J-Archive wagering s...

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Paralytic president = not FDR = HUGE negbait. Anyone else join me in that one? Yes, and it was a head slap. FDR had polio. Wilson had a series of strokes, never recovered, but his VP didn't succeed him because his condition wasn't made public. 25th amendment only ratified in 1967, after JFK's assas...

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Rodrigo did indeed have a tough day. Mistaking licorice for cotton candy and thinking that Truman was drafted to play in the NFL were two of the, um most unusual responses we've seen in a while. I felt the clue about Gerald Ford would have made a decent FJ clue. Rodrigo's blatantly wrong guess disr...

He needs $54,970 to pass Austin and Matt. He would need to average $35,735 over the next two games to pass Julia.

Re: regular-season earnings board (SPOILERS)

(Jason) seems to be getting stronger as he goes along. He's in the top 10 all-time in regular-season earnings and is picking up speed. If he gets past #7 on the list he has a long way to go to reach #6, so it will be an interesting time to keep watching. "a long way to go"; You mean like, next week...

Re: Friday, September 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

That being said, I am disappointed. If you have a chance to get the hest non-Holzhauer single-day score, you go for it no matter what the category. Pretty easy to say when you have no skin in the game. Jason is now 7 out of 11 for getting FJ correct, including the last four in a row. He could stand...

Re: All-Time money winners

For money in regular play it's: Ken, James, David, Julia, Matt, Austin & Arthur ahead of Jason So far this season, Jason has left a whopping $42,853 on the table in his four lock game FJ rounds, with a net 'loss' of $29,254 on three correct responses. That would have been enough to overtake Arthur ...

Re: Tuesday, September 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Valerie was a delightful contestant.
If not for the arbitrary guess on "___ like a pig", she would have stopped the runnaway. Jason still would have had a crush but it would have been interesting with a more difficult FJ.

I would have gotten it on the date alone. Throwing in the hint that it was a ratings blockbuster was more than enough to make it a slam dunk instaget.

Re: Monday, September 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

On the first clue revealed in that category: I could have sworn they were going for Barry Levinson on the back half, but the correct response ended with (Jerry) Seinfeld. I guess I just totally miss heard the clue. Can somebody post up the actual verbage? No, the correct response ended with the dir...

Re: Monday, September 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought the 2 name category in DJ was poorly done. Alex, in his instructions and in providing the correct responses, gave two names, but the contestants kept doing portmanteaus. Obviously they would have accepted either, but this could have been explained better. This. I was sure they were suppos...

44 years.
I was speaking in terms of coming to Titanic's rescue, so it was actually 41 years too late. I just gave a general ballpark figure because I didn't feel like looking it up.

That's what I was thinking.

Re: Friday, July 26, 2019 FJ (SPOILERS)

One of the easiest instaget FJs of this season for me. I almost didn't even bother doing the math to make sure. Shocked, just shocked that it was a triple stumper. Michael I can understand, being possibly too young to have seen the James Cameron movie when it was circulating. But this should be basi...

Re: Thursday, July 25, 2019 FJ (SPOILERS)

I consider myself an authority on 1970s albums and I didn't get this one. The year given in the clue was about the only thing I had to work with. Everything else meant nothing to me. I was a Senior in H.S. when the title track was in the Top 40 but Hotel California was so far off my radar....even wh...

Re: Monday, July 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't understand James' FJ bet. Wouldn't $9,601 have been optimal? That's enough to take first place if Jason gets FJ wrong or bets $0, yet it is also enough to keep second place if Cristina gets FJ wrong. Since he was already at risk of being passed by Cristina if he missed with a $9,601 wager, ...
