Re: Friday, February 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Darn, Darn, Darn... I was rooting for Eric and thought he'd come up with another singleton. Also thought he had a good case for wagering shortagey (1700 to outsmart an intelligent wager (4799) from Amanda). I think I would have rolled the dice. He had a number of negs where I was frustrated that he ...

Re: Wednesday, February 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This was the second or third game in a row with intricate final wagering senarios for all three contestants. I guess Will was more interested in maximizing his winnings in this one game than looking at the big picture of a possible ToC birth. Really disapointed in his suicide bet from third when Bry...

I confess to pulling a TPH.
I did recognize Veep and The Office, but never watched either. Used to watch Married semi regular. Always had the hots for Peg.

TPH wrote:Absolutely no recognition on the TV category.
Married with Children was the only show I recognized but I can never dredge up Katie Segal's name.
I was totally lost on all the other clues.

The movie clues I did better on. I got The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane and Rebel Without a Cause.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I've heard of the plagues of Egypt themselves, but still went 0/5 in that category. Blood to water, lice, and hail were all unfamiliar to me. Do yourself a favor and rent, or watch on Netflix, The Ten Commandments the next time you have a day off and it is stay inside weather. I promise, it's less ...

Euphonium wrote: Alex's drawn-out "mmmmm...no" on Antarctica should have been a clue to Christopher as to what the correct response was.
Even more surprising was that Aaron didn't scoop up the easy rebound after Christopher's head shaker.

Re: Thursday, January 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

OK, given the way the clue was constructed "Hattiesburg" was way overvalued for $1000. I wonder if it was a substitute clue. "Don't Tread on Me" seems overvalued at $2000 I felt the Hattiesburg clue was salvaged from the stupid answers bin. There was another bottom row clue, which I can't recall, t...

I precalled Duel would come up in 1970s TV Movies. :)
Went 4 out of 5 in the category, only missing the George C. Scott clue.

NEVER GONNA GIVE U UP $1000: Type of plant seen here, familiar to an infant Moses (Julie: What are rushes?) It seemed to me this was one of those instances where the other two contestants were not allowed to rebound because Alex possibly called Julie's response correct, then was overruled, and an e...

Using a faux-Earthrise for Apollo 10 (and especially without clue text during the read) was pretty mean... (Yes, yes, there's plenty of bits that rule out 8, but you're playing against Pavlov there.) Well, not everyone uses a quote about Neil Armstrong below every post... :D Honestly I think Apollo...

FJ was a WECIB. Did they really think that was a tough curveball? I can't believe a J! contestant would fall for the FDR 'trap' on this one.
I guess it goes hand in hand with the all too common poor FJ wagering, which this game made a good case of.

Anneke Garcia: 9800-9800=0
Saw that comin'.
After some smart wagers in her first three games, she goes roughshod and bets like she has a plane to catch.

Re: Friday, January 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The less said about the wagers, the better. Why? I absolutely loved Anneke's wager. It keeps Sarah out of the picture and defeats Jocelyn keeping Sarah locked out by a couple of bucks in a TS. Better still, she beats any intelligent wager from Jocelyn when they are both correct. I was pleased to se...

Three out of the five composers got pronounced incorrectly. Wagner with w sound rather than a v, Verdi with the first syllable rhyming with fur rather than fair, and Haydn to rhyme with maiden rather than Biden. So of course Alex only asks for a repeat on one response in the category--the correctly...

The DDs were extra unfriendly to Maggie as not only were they misses, but her facial expressions indicated no recognition or chance to get the right guys. DD3 especially had some deer in the headlights twitching. I was almost reminded of myself on the DD3 in MATH that stumped me back in aught five....

Not sure what that 2300 wager was meant to accomplish. Moves ahead of the leader's standard wager by $99 if he answers correct while the leader misses. Poor logic in my opinion, but that was certainly the rationale. $101. Nevertheless, it was about the weakest strategy that could be applied in her ...

Re: Friday, December 21, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

That was quite a barn burner in the DJ round. Props to Graham for not giving up when it looked like Andrew was going to pull away. His only falter was trying for a rebound on a $2000 clue that andrew missed. With only a handful of clues left, Graham was momentarily tied until he rang in and missed i...
