Re: TD 242: So It's Seriously Come to an Excuse for the Worst TD Ever

Thanks to everyone who played! It was once again an honor to run a game for everyone, and I am glad that I had the chance to use some of my old questions for those of you who have not been around for as long. I hope that everyone has a great weekend! Thanks, one of my favorite TDs thus far, despite...

Re: Jeopardy! and Ken's streak analyzed by Five Thirty Eight

Just read the FiveThirtyEight article, which was fascinating. One interesting side issue involves the switch to the online qualifying test and the larger contestant pool that resulted. The author is suggesting that moving the test online attracted a large number of female entrants, making the conte...

Re: History of hubris on JBoard.tv

I cant stop laughing. The fact that someone has assigned himself chronicler of all hubris cracks me up. Son, we live in a world that has hubris, and that hubris has to be exposed by people with internet access. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Bamaman? Floridagator has a greater responsibility than you...

Re: Monday, April 20, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was happy to see Todd become the new champion perhaps because the way Monica was raising the signalling button in the air kept making me nervous. I really think contestants should have been BMSed on their answers of Roosevelt and Adams. Is there no longer any consistency to this? Someone on this ...

Re: TD 234: π Day [Game Over]

Thanks for the thanks. I'll have to see about doing this again, but it's a lot of research and fact checking. I did it during this week partially because it was pi day, and partially because of Spring break. Thanks for the game, Zach, and well done. Not wanting to scare anyone off from giving it a ...

Re: Thursday, March 5, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

My dictionary says juxtapose etymology is back formation from juxtaposition. So I guess juxtapose would be accepted? Sorry... I was being sarcastic. I would think both would be acceptable (they both did, after all, have the "ux" and even if they had marginally different etymologies, there's no way ...

Re: Tuesday, March 3, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I thought that Hungary took its name because Europeans thought the Magyars who migrated there looked like Huns, and thus Hun + Magyar = Hungary (sort of). Guess that wasnt accurate. Golden Retriever seemed mind-bogglingly easy for $800 EDIT: a quick google search reveals that it appears the Hun conn...

How is it that 60% of people got the French question right yet only 55% of people picked Maine as one of the two states?

IMO, that was nasty negbait on the Beckett question - he's by far most famous for Waiting for Godot, which is three words and seemed to fit the preceding quote. Why not just say in The Unnamable by Samuel Beckett?

Re: Toughest FJ! clues 9/15/14 - 1/2/15

Flight simulator, besides being difficult and obscure, was simply a stupid question in my opinion. There's no way to deduce logically that that MUST be the answer, or even should be (many other good responses, including parachute, were tossed around when it aired). If one were to get it right, it wo...

Re: Last Night's J! parody on the SNL 40th Anniversary Special

Not their best, but it had its moments! :) Not enough cowbell Sean Connery to make it good. (Burt Reynolds (and Trebek, of course) was, of course, awesome, and had the right amount of screen time). Get rid of Matthew Mcconaughey, Justin Bieber, Tony Bennett and whoever the other one was that replac...

I actually was in Barnes and Noble a few hours before this TD was posted, and upon seeing the novel in the store I remember thinking: "Huh, I've never heard of Villette by Charlotte Bronte." Imagine my surprise!

Re: Tuesday, January 27, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Any chance we can poll whether anyone managed to get both actors for FJ? I got Brando immediately, discarded Hanks when i realized Philadelphia didn't win Best Picture, and then remembered Hoffman for Rain Man and Kramer vs. Kramer. It's not often I can actually best the Board on a tough question (e...

Re: TD 228: Welcome to Williams

-1 point for the first person to tell me the TV character who said the following quote, which is appropriate for this TD: "You know, if you don't want to run again, I respect that. But if you don't run because you think it's gonna be too hard or you think you're gonna lose well, God, Jed, I don't e...
