That’s right. I’m sorry this escalated

Re: Watching Online

To a point. Moby Dick is in public domain. If I have a book published say 1920 and I photocopy it and give it to my students (and even get reimbursed), the copyright on the 1920 edition is no longer valid, and the underlyhing material is not in copyright. Who could sue me and how would they get any ...

Re: Watching Online

Also, Robert - I'm not a lawyer. But let's say Jeopardy does take action. They have to show damages and a loss to claim in what would be a civil suit, right? Unless this is something that falls under a District Attorney's or a DOJ purview. And how have they suffered any loss if I share a regular sea...

Re: Watching Online

Also, Jeopardy has never made a policy of allowing people to view old episodes through a pay wall. If they did, then it would be a serious issue here. But they don’t. You can buy a DVD of your own episode at a very high price, but that’s a different thing I think. In general, if I wanted to see a sh...

J-archive spoilers

It’s 2 PM in Los Angeles. I went onto the J archive site to look something up and I see today’s game is up there already. Is this a policy, does anyone know, of the J-archive?

They seem to be very careful about not spoiling shows.

I can't think of why E.J. picked exactly $501 for his wager. His safe martian wager was $1,799. In particular, I can't figure out why his wager ended with -01 instead of with -99.
Any ties to Arkansas, home of the 501 area code?
Yes. I think he grew up and went to high school there.

Re: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The good thing about the Viewmaster was the rotating system. Not only that but it didn't require printing and enlargement to paper cards which were more susceptible to warping/bending, mold, water damage, sticking to each other, dirt/scratches, etc. etc. Cared for well, films on Viewmaster discs fr...

Re: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Add a note on Viewmaster. Viewmaster is just a nice riff on the stereopticon which was a feature in homes, at least bourgeois homes, from the 1880s on. 3-D pictures have always had an appeal. The good thing about the Viewmaster was the rotating system. But in general, 3-D goes through waves of a pil...

Re: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

E.J. needs to relax and turn down the intensity meter one notch for tomorrow. Please. He reminded me of an unfunny Adam Scott. Respectfully disagree. I really enjoy his game play. I think that he comes off a bit intense but when he relaxes the smell seems very genuine, more easily genuine perhaps s...

Cumulative Coryat after 10 games: Ken 292,000, James 290,000. (I believe #3 is Matt Jackson with 250,200.) If you counted correct answers and first buzzes today, you can update the following: Cumulative total correct answers after 9 games: Ken 301, James 292. (Ken had 40 in his game 10, so I'm pret...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

Regarding reading the clue, and the light — Unless you read very very slowly, there is plenty of time to read the clue before Alex finishes reading it out loud. The light does not come on randomly. There is a set amount of time after Alex finishes reading the clue that it comes on. Your buzzer skill...

Re: Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I know we just had a supertourney; but I wonder at what point TPTB might decide that as was the case with Ken, it would be a letdown to place James in a "mere" TOC, as the viewing public would like to see how he would fare against the other immortals. I'm not talking about anything as long and craz...

Re: Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Just out of curiosity - why? Personally, I LOVE watching greatness. Well, I am kind of on your page, I like the big tournaments and would love if they were every three years (every year might be a bit much), but I can see being annoyed by a lot of the newer champions. In the old days, even the best...

Re: Tuesday, March 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I also felt the show was hamstrung by the need to highlight recent champs who are good, not great. Personally I would rather see a Jerome Vered or Leslie Shannon up there, and not Austin Rogers’ armpit fart routine. I know these folks still know their stuff - they showed it this weekend in Vegas, f...

Re: Thursday, March 7, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Regarding the idea that the article doesn't matter, I'm not so sure. If they were asking for work by Henry David Thoreau and I answered, "the Walden Pond," I think it would be wrong.

Re: Thursday, March 7, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

forget which person it was, but they said "the titanic" for the film...shouldn't that have been ruled as incorrect? I was sure they were going to take it away before final Jeopardy. Given that they were such sticklers on the possessive form Pee-Wee's and on Magic Mike XXL vs Xl, The ship can be cal...
