Not much on the comedy plays. Twelfth Night was out, but other than that...picked A Comedy of Errors. :(
Why was Twelfth Night out?

That was definitely one of the luckiest wins ever.
Is it? Everyone bet properly so this is what I’d expect from a difficult FJ. (Difficult for me at least because I'm familiar enough with the material and thought it must have been a gender bender comedy like Twelfth Night).

Blue bird has to be one if the sillier stand and stare clues. I mean, come on!! It was a picture of a blue bird!! :D

Were they afraid it was really a cardinal in disguise??

After a run of easy FJs, this was at least a little tougher although still pretty easy (Poland??). :)

I think it would have been TOC level had they given the correct response as part of the clue and instead, they were looking for the U.K.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

INTERNATIONAL HOLIDAYS $400: In Dublin La Fheile Padraig happens in this month Dublin = Ireland Padraig = Patrick Irish holiday for Patrick = St. Patrick's Day That's March. I didn't spot the cognate, so to my ears and eyes, "la fheile Padraig" could've been literally anything. Even now, it's still...

Not sure how this was a TS. Guy famous for being a horseman talks about a relay - maybe involving horses?

Will lucks out and lives to play another day. (But for the horse connection, the transcontinental railroad wasn’t a horrible guess).

Re: Friday, February 1, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

But this would be more like saying George LaLopez or Frederic Cho-chopin. Well, if you want to (mis)characterize his pronunciation that way: stutters don't make a response incorrect. No need to lie as I didn’t mischaracterise anything (this is all supposed to be in fun, right?) - but this caba-ba-l...

Re: Friday, February 1, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Yeah, I heard something like "Isabella La Yende." But there are some Spanish-affiliated languages (if not Spanish dialects) where the double L is more like the "lli" in "William" than a straight Y sound. For example, there was a teacher named Estrella from the Philippines in my elementary school, a...

I know that they’re somewhat generous with pronunciation of foreign names but I expected Will to get reversed on his take on Isabel Allende. Yeah, I heard something like "Isabella La Yende." Re: Wednesday, January 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The giveaway on the FJ answer was the word “circle” in the clue. Dorothy Parker is best known as a member of the Algonquin Circle. Actually it was the Algonquin ROUNDTABLE, so "circle" was a hint but not (IMHO) the big red arrow pointing unmistakably to the right answer that some people here seem t...

Re: Wednesday, January 30, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Poor Sean. My guess is that big red flag and blaring klaxon in the FJ clue didn’t mean anything to him so he just picked a woman author at random. But if there is one thing Austen wasn’t, it’s vitriolic.

This was a triple get? I'll never figure out J! contestants. Instaget FJ. Mark did a good job running down all the reasons I was screaming at the TV. Is there another Civil War novel they ask about? And yet another classic movie clue missed. I don’t trust anyone who hasn’t seen Double Indemnity. :g...

Re: Thursday, January 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Three of the easiest DD clues in a while so what happened?? As for FJ, this is probably a case of knowing just a little is an advantage. It obviously wasn’t going to be Thatcher (wring gender anyway) or Major so Blair seemed like a pretty good guess. I didn’t realize that Brown was so close in time ...

A thoroughly unsatisfying end to John’s run.

But he seems to have had a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

And this FJ should poll over 90% unless some of the younger set just isn’t familiar with it. Best comic strip ever - or at least since Peanuts.

So confident that FJ was Spring Awakening that I didn’t consider any alternatives.

John is a very personable contestant - no offense to his competiton - and I hope he’s the first 5 game winner in a while.

standard...the people on this show know heaps of stuff except for math and strategy And sports. And movies/Oscars. Ironically, people seem to do fairly well with the “dreaded” Opera category.
