Re: Wednesday, February 21, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

So, Bryan coming back on stage after ending in the red brings up a question -- how come they don't let a player in the red play FJ for 'fun'. Let them write their response down like the other contestants just to see if they would have gotten it right. Rob, I certainly wanted you to win, but I kept ...

Re: Wednesday, February 21, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Today I needed all parts of FJ! for the solve. I couldn't immediately drum up Gallipoli, but I thought about the Greek for city and got the Polis (or Poli) and from there was able to get to Gallipoli. I initially got misdirected to Belgium/France with "Dardanelles" but the reference to Greek pointe...

Re: Monday, February 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

So, is there irony in the fact that Florence's failure to exercise her right to remain silent cost her the ability to participate in FJ!? (Or just Alanis Morissette irony?) I vote that it's real irony. I'd note that it's also ironic that Alanis Morisette had such a big hit about irony apparently wi...

Re: Friday, February 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Interesting to me so many here seem to have gone right to "Neverland" rather than "Wonderland." Seemed like a coin toss to me and I picked wrong. If you know the story of Peter Pan, and not just the Disney animated movie which doesn’t mention it, you would know that the lost boys got to Neverland b...

Re: Thursday, February 15, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I guess this FJ was one where having just enough knowledge - but not very much - was useful. I never heard the term daimyo (that I know of) so it wasn't part of the equation for me. It was really shogun or samurai and as several others have pointed out, the Clavell novel (and miniseries) suggested t...

Re: Wednesday, February 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I had to laugh at the champ's answer of Menomonie Wisconsin because it's a small college town that they will never ever ask about on Jeopardy. Plus it's nowhere near the 414 area code. As it's been pointed out, there is a Menomonee (Falls) - which is near Milwaukee. Who knew why Meonomonee (or Meno...

Re: Monday, February 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm also trying to figure out how two people missed this FJ. The reference to 2007 and the price were almost superfluous because with 1950s, ridiculed and victory lap, WECIB?

And those wagers - yikes. It's like they found a group that's never watched the show before - including Marty.

Re: Thursday, February 8, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Alex sure knows how to kick a guy when he's down. Ouch. The standard, "Today just wasn't John's day" would have sufficed!

That said, about Pliny the Elder being a famous Flemish painter ...

Re: Wednesday, February 7, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Sean gets questionable thumbs ups from the judges on "veterinarian" and "discography". I thought they were also going to allow "disability". I was surprised the first two went in his favor, as it seemed to contradict the show's own rules. To be honest, I still don't know why they were so len...

Re: Tuesday, February 6, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

It was a fun group of contestants - I would love to see an "Enunciation Off" between Sean and Nabila.

No clue on FJ - probably couldn't have come up with it in a month of Sundays. Maybe if they referenced Edith Piaf's version of the speech ... :D

Re: Thursday, February 1, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Boys and girls, I have seen a lot of sad moments on J! over the years, but never anything so sad as three J! contestants going 0-for-the-category on Football Terms (or whatever the cat. name was). When no one of them could even identify Tom Landry as the coach of the Dallas Cowboys, I wanted them t...

So Ryan continues with the bad DD betting - but still came out on top. Some folks have all the luck.

But, it will be interesting to see if he learned from a near disaster if the situation presents itself in future games.

Re: Wednesday, January 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Speaking of which, I will submit a poll request for "I've never even heard of Ore-Ida". Thanks ahead of time, Mark. There are two of you already in this thread and I'm shocked by that. On the other hand based on the 1/15 poll 11% have never eaten a Triscuit and I wouldn't have ever guessed that eit...

Re: Wednesday, January 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Do you really need to label the state names? Maybe make it a tad harder? That was my thought as well. It was virtually a STUPID ANSWERS clue. And I was baffled that Elizabeth knew enough about Gilbert and Sullivan to guess H.M.S. Pinafore , but couldn't name the show with "buccaneers." I suspect sh...

Re: Wednesday, January 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I've eaten plenty of their products and reset the frozen potatoes sections in grocery stores enough times to where that was an instaget. Although, just five minutes ago I had no idea how the company got its name. A bit surprised nobody has commented on his DD wager at the end. He is up by just $200...

Re: Wednesday, January 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

So, Ryan and Nate both wagered more than necessary. Nate's wager set up the scenario that if Ryan had made the (proper?) minimum bet to cover and missed FJ, he and Nate would have been tied. Weird, that.

Re: Tuesday, January 30, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Brandey was in first for the cinema brothers for $2K which would have had her at 12600 to Ryan’s 25000. Instead she missed and Ryan took the $1600 and $400 clues to close out the round with the runaway to make Brandey’s sole solve of the FJ! clue not matter. Brandey seemed like a fun player and I w...

Re: Tuesday, January 30, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

We were whooping with laughter at Alex's opening prayer. Hilarious! How crazy is it going to get by the end of this week? As a fan of the author whose work figured into FJ, I would have preferred that the writers ask for author's name, rather than just invite guesses for mythological figures that h...
