Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I can't believe that 37% of llamas made the same careless mistake as me and StevenH ... using the wrong tense of 'jump'. I can't believe that anyone on my Facebook friends list missed this question. Before you start pruning your friends, I can quite confidently say that I was running a fever (actua...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Occasionally I like LL, some days I dislike LL and other days I hate it. Five right was good for me though not enough as I had the "honour" (he's Canadian) to face the only person in my group to get all six right. My opponents (public and private) mistakenly thought that my Canadian location...

Not sure if you have me mixed up with somebody else, but I'm actually in Isthmus D-1.
I have you added now. There is another poster with Iron4Horse as their name who I have an ID for in my list. If you are the same guy, please let me know (PM is fine).

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Thanks to cmp146 for updating the list! I like the way you list ronins in both places. After taking off LL78 for various and sundry reasons, I'm glad to be back in LL79. I'm also curious to see how I enjoy a private rundle that's a bit more my speed (one A, one B, the rest C and below). I'm sort of...

Re: Where to start w/ trivia & life?

Read widely, take some courses in things you don't know, but want to learn more. There are free ones on Coursera, or other internet based platforms. Check out podcasts and digests. NPR has great shows (as does the CBC) on tons of topics. Look things up if you don't get references, and then learn mor...

Re: Where to start w/ trivia & life?

I like the idea of knowledge for knowledge's sake. While I'm not a scientist, currently I'm focusing on cell biology, which can also involve a good dose of chemistry. The field is far from being settled knowledge and has made fundamental advancements in our lifetimes. There's very little overlap to...

Re: HQ Trivia

For the benefit of Canadians: The Canadian version of "Confetti" will debut on Facebook Watch at 5:30 PM Eastern on Monday, October 15. Oof - that is an awful time. I am typically mid commute or scrambling to feed my kids dinner then. The revised time of 5:30 PM EDT on Wednesday October 17th is a b...

I am in:

Environmental Science Group 94
Just Audio 2 Group 114
Style 3 Group 31

I did a quick scan of names, but didn't spot anyone I knew. I hope everyone is having fun with these!

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

cmp146 sported a pretty gaudy DE score, too. Such a bummer. I look forward to seeing you again in LL80. I do, too. I was surprised to finish where I did considering I had the fourth-lowest TCA; I think in tying for the lowest CAA, I really lucked out. Thank you A Magnolia ladies and gentlemen for t...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

I managed to stay strong and win the Correct Answers Against in A Magnolia at 114. Regrettably, this, combined with my less-than-spectacular play led to a finish of 8-14-3 and 100 TCA and 24th place finish. This means that I am being relegated to the much more friendly-looking B Magnolia next time a...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

I am very excited to say that despite still winning the Correct Answers Against race in A Magnolia, I successfully pulled myself out of the relegation zone. I managed to defeat my opponent one place ahead of me, swapping places with him. Not sure if that is a good thing though. The stats in B Magnol...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

cmp146, I underestimated your knowledge of horse racing! Good match. I'm glad we're both out of the relegation zone (for now, at least. I'm still dangerously close). Yup, I also had a shelf-full of horse novels at age 8 (okay, so I still have a shelf-full of horse novels). :-) I am also the current...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

Congrats to alietr for your 9(6) victory against me yesterday.

I am having the stuffing kicked out of me this season. My 55 TAA is second worst in A Magnolia, and I am in the relegation zone. <sigh>

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

MD8 Q2: What is the word used to categorize birds, colloquially known as "perching birds," that belong to the avian order that makes up more than half of all living birds, including all songbirds (swallows, larks, cardinals, crows, wrens, finches, orioles, etc.)? The term is derived from the Latin w...

According to French law, only 12 casts were allowed to be made of the statue. One is right here in Washington at the Hirshhorn. Now I need to go see it (I'm sure I've seen it before, but didn't recognize its significance). I highly recommend the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. http://www.rodinmuseum....
