Anyone else think Eric looks like a young Fred Willard?

He's a very good player. That much is certain.
Wife and I noticed that yesterday - he looks like Fred Willard, and his opponent Karen yesterday resembled Mayim Bialik.

Re: Monday, February 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I for one couldn't tell you what show is on what network, almost 100% of the time. It's always so interesting how everyone's brains work, especially Jeopardy fans. My knowledge about media includes far more "meta data" (release/air years, network, stars) than plots. I can cross reference this kind ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Half the time I'm told to focus in on just key words. The other half of the time, I'm told to read EVERY word. Both are correct. Read every word to determine what's important. A big part of Jeopardy is parsing the clues as written to see what they want. They're written in the "Jeopardy style", and ...

Another Instaget FJ here. We read Dorothy Parker in high school during our poetry unit, and she's stuck with me since:

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren’t lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

No firckin idea what Atwood is except where I get my chicken feed. I've heard "The Handmaid's Tale" and thought it was one of Chaucer's chapters. I don't know how you get this one short of reading the book - but someone mentioned a tv show, which is fair game. I could even read the book and not kno...

Re: Monday, January 21, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The word Bond was the answer to a clue twice today. I wonder how often there is an answer that is used twice in the same episode in two different categories. I noticed that too. I thought at first that they wanted something else for the second clue (the one about investment kind), but turns out the...

40 years old, in the pool, pop culture student, former novelty radio DJ, and somehow Fibber McGee and Molly has never been on my radar.

Not at all versed in Star Trek lore, but know there are Romulans, so..
How does an alien race have a history drawing on Roman mythology, anyway??... :roll:
Never explained in canon, as far as I know, but the thinking is that those are just the human names for those races and planets.

Re: Jeopardy on Netflix

Only 45 episodes, all older. The show has ~230 episodes a year.

We're still all stuck without a legit/legal streaming method, because of syndication agreements.

But I thought every American schoolchild knew Gene Autrey wrote "Rudolph."
Every American schoolchild probably did, between 1950 and 1960. I only knew because I'm a big Angels baseball fan.

Re: Monday, October 15, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I am proud of the fact I only got "Empire Strikes Back" in the Star Wars category. Seriously? An entire category on a mediocre sci-fi franchise that peaked with Episode IV (the origional) and has regressed consistently since? Low hanging troll bait. We've all got things we don't like in pop culture...

Re: Thursday, October 11, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought I knew my 90's cartoons forward and backward, but Æon Flux was a total NHOI for me. Even with the movie, it's a REALLY niche character. The show was first on an MTV showcase of animation called "Liquid Television" in the early 90s, then had some standalone episodes (also on MTV). But it w...

FJ I considered and dismissed the correct answer (Solomon as well) because I assumed that for church/state reasons, the House wouldn't put such a major Judeo-Christian figure there. I said Julius Caesar. Church/state reasons rarely seem to apply to public displays - there are still 10 Commandments,...

Count me as another person confused by the FJ category. I knew who the Screenplay Oscar in 1997 went to, but it took me about 25 seconds to assume they didn't need a hyphenated response. Glad I'm not alone.
