Re: Tuesday, October 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got $7,800 in Lach Trash, not enough for a bonafide fourth podium win on my FJ sole get. But! One of those gets was Tom Joad, right above the Hester Prynne DD, which I got right, and I would have amassed $2,600 by that point and bet it all. So that puts me at $10,400 entering FJ. But! My hitting ...

Opening piece = Overture

Swiss = Pavlov for William Tell

My guess = The Nutcracker Suite

lolwut?
I think I can beat that

Me: "Hmmm... Swiss makes me with William Tell, but that's an opera, not a 12 minute piece. I guess I'll try 1812 Overture...

Went a little too deep and said Lascaux instead of Cro-Magnon for DD3. Shoulda been more careful.

Victoria had a 63 year reign so even a vague idea of when the war was fought should give you the solve.
I agree, it was more the first hoop was determining what the poem/battle was referring to. A battle with a Russian name leaves quite a few wars to choose from.

Re: Friday, October 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I must say, though I did get it right, THE ENGLISH MONARCH WHEN... for $800 seemed really undervalued. There were quite a few hoops to jump through in such a short clue. Charge of the LB/Balaklava = Crimean War Crimean War = mid-19th Century Mid-19th Century = Queen Victoria I suppose you could asso...

Re: Fourth Podium Poll for 10/16/2020 (Part 2)

IM JUST THE "GO" BETWEEN for $1600 and POETS & POETRY for $1200: I really should have gotten both of these, as I have flash cards for both Thomas Wolfe and Oliver Wendell Holmes. I felt I needed at least Wolfe's name to muster You Can't Go Home Again , but I have no excuse for not getting the poem....

Re: Friday, October 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I shall express how I felt watching this game with a question.

Do we even need a 4th podium poll?

All I needed was Lockheed-Martin, steam power and a pizza (sounds like my kinda party) + a correct FJ and I'm already there. I'll check the inevitable poll's boxes anyway...

I also wanted more AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHTS, mostly because it's always been a weak-point, but I've studied it very hard and was 3/3 on the revealed clues.

+1 daredevil
+1 did not like the clue at all
+1 flabbergasted that Kristin even gave Kevin the chance to win

Re: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So, in CONTRONYMS for $1000, how do we feel about "series"? Here's the wording of the clue: "It can mean an assortment of different types, or one type in particular" So the first half of clue seems to fit "series" just fine. I actually think it's the first half that's problematic. Dictionary.com de...

Said Mexican Jumping Bean though pretty sure it was wrong. Never heard of the connection between Michoacan and butterfly migration. Maybe with the words "migrate" or "travel to Michoacan", I could have forced a correct guess, but can't say for sure. Called Diwali as soon as the category was revealed...
