I was waiting for them to come back after the second break and take the DD from Ben. As far as I know it is a tricorn hat not a tri corner hat.
Ditto. It's absolutely a tricorn.

Instaget FJ, and I have never watched a single episode of that show. Knew the French word cold.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

If you see "Transvaal" think South Africa. A "burg" there? Top box material that got by the players (and you). It happens. I saw it and thought "okay, that kind of sounds like Transylvania, but the double A also sounds vaguely Scandinavian, so I have absolutely no clue." Seems like that one had a l...

Four-letter words with three vowels: airy. Genuine question: does J! consider Y to be a vowel in this kind of context? Thanks. Definitely. The usual teaching in the States is that y is sometimes a consant, sometimes a vowel, depending on how it functions in the word. We memorized the vowels as "a, ...

Re: Tuesday, April 28, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I personally can't wait until "Donald Trump's Favorite Books" is a category. I'm pre-calling "The Art of the Deal," "The Art of the Comeback," "The Art of Survival,", "Mein Kampf," of course, and "Best Places to Retire That Have No Extradition Treaty with the US." These can't be right. His real fav...

How should anyone be expected to know the date of the gunpowder plot?? The Walden fact was an excellent piece of trivia on the other hand Because it has it's own Wikipedia page? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night And to tie it all up in a neat little bow of the last few days ... The day...

Puzzled by this since the Elgin marbles were taken from the Parthenon in Greece. Nick won, so it's a non-issue in the progress of the games, but let's note: The Elgin Marbles were in fact wrapped for shipment to England in the 19th century. Had he lost by $3,200 or less, or had he been able to claim...

I had "Allende" but couldn't pull the first name in time. Judges?

Do I need a first name to distinguish her from her father, even though he wasn't a writer?
Ditto for me. As soon as Alex said Isabel I kicked myself. "Allende" was instaget, but had a complete blank on her first name.

So...if /when Megxit happens and Harry and Meghan leave the Royal Family, is he going to take her surname since he doesn't exactly have one? (Windsor is a placeholder, it doesn't count) Harry Markle. Harry Markle-Windsor. Harry Windsor-Markle... His official surname is actually Mountbatten-Windsor ...

Re: It's a Hand! It's Michigan! category poll (1/3/20 spoilers)

As a lifelong resident of the Great Lakes State, I would have to forfeit my Michigan Card if I hadn't ran the category. And I'm slightly annoyed that there was no love for the U.P. Let's pretend that the uncovered clue related to the UP. As it was the $400 clue, maybe that marvel of engineering kno...

Re: Thursday, December 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought at the time the BMS on “British Flag” was getting at the fact that the clue referenced the addition of the St. Patrick cross, representing (these days) Northern Ireland, which is not part of Great Britain but is part of the United Kingdom. I would have responded with UK flag to the BMS. ⬆...

Re: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It was a low-value clue and made no difference in the game, but the pedant in me has to say that I think Rachel got away with one when she was given credit for a correct answer of "outsourcing" in reply to the clue "It's the practice of sending U.S. jobs overseas." Outsourcing is taking certain fun...

Re: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Is there a Championship Game on Friday? Who would qualify for that one? Would it just be two people on that show, the 1st place from Thursday and the runner-up? If so, James and Emma could matchup again on Friday if things play out right. As with all J! Tournaments, the Final is over two days: Thur...

NATO was an instaget for me - the invocation of that article after 9/11 has been in the news a lot in response to Trump's constant criticism of other NATO members. Apparently it's the only time it's been invoked, meaning the US is the only member to have taken advantage of it (of course deservedly s...
