Holzhauer - Cellmate of Trump at Allenwood.

Why is it I always agree with you? So amusing.

I like all the mods here, but you're something special.

Sidebar to Floridagator just above. Massive boo on your entry, which made this one necessary. Lol!

Re: Thursday, January 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Missed the episode. Confused by the wording of the nor’easter clue — my degree’s in meteorology, and I grew up in New Hampshire, and I think the more precise wording would be that the predominant wind comes from that direction (on the north side of the low pressure system), or that the storm itself...

Re: Help with a Jeopardy-themed marriage proposal

Hmm. I like where you're going, creatively and conceptually, but please don't make her the equivalent to a female sheep in your marriage proposal. Baaaa-d idea, from a woman's POV. Hilarious to a guy, I'm sure. 1. Though his full name is one of the most famous in all English literature, his friends ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Was very stoked to see the Booknotes question -- it's a show before my time, but I happened to visit its online archives while writing a couple of history papers years ago. TV is not a strong suit of mine, so it felt good to get an obscure one in that category. From anyone who got the W. C. Fields ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Age was probably as important to whether you knew "Soul Train" as much as TV knowledge. It's hard for me to imagine anyone close to my age (49) not remembering it. I think demography is also a big factor. I'm aware of the show only as a pop culture reference from SNL skits or whatever. I expect Sou...

Re: TD 435 - Narrowing Nine (Final results)

Just to close the question I raised above, clt013 and I have been corresponding in PM, and, while Ft Dodge once earned Primary Airport status (for at least one year this decade), their emplanements have dropped, and they are not currently designated as such. So I have conceded the question I had abo...

Re: Monday, December 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Did the word "anaphylactic" sound a bit mispronounced to anyone else? Like she was trying to say "anaphylaxis" at the same time, almost. It was clear she knew the answer, but it didn't sound quite right to my ear. I'm sure Andy will mutter under his breath at me for second-guessing the judges, but ...

Re: TD 435 - Narrowing Nine (Final results)

Ok, I totally stunk this up.

However, please look up Fort Dodge, IA airport They qualified for Primary status and are quite proud of it, because it came with federal grant money for airport improvements. I would like to have earned a singleton, please, just for pride.

Re: LL83: Learned League

I had several lucky guesses this season, and yesterday the piper came to collect. Peru or Colombia? I thought the border was more straight and, recalling that Ecuador "carves out" more of Peru, I went with that. 99 is someone super-famous, so much so that even I should know him. I think Gretzky and...

Re: New contestant coordinator with an interesting history

I'm resurrecting this thread because Aimee was on my team last night for a trivia contest run by Atlas Obscura (we won, but along with 2 other teams out of 20 or so). It was an all-J! alumni team. I had remembered this thread from when she got the J! job. I won a free drink ticket for correcting on...

With much respect to many others, Alex Jacob would be my first choice. Perhaps even above at least one of the GOATS who are playing.

Re: LL83: Learned League

I started with Irish Car Bomb, but could not imagine what that would have to do with uniforms. Finally went reluctantly to black and tan, as having the Guinness, two ingredients, and the smallest resemblance to some kind of clothing reference. Turned out to be right.

"The thing I don't get: How do they spoilerproof this?"

Maybe they shoot it on a closed set and overlay canned audience sound?

Re: LL83: Learned League

It didn't matter in the match results, but I was given credit for "serum albumin" on the blood question. Any thoughts?: is that effectively close enough to the more general answer of just "serum" or did the scoring algorithm see the intended answer in the first word and stop there? I couldn't tell ...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

Archive programming suggestion: Set up a season like Super Jeopardy, and split each episode into two games for Archive purposes. That much is obvious, but a lot of little pieces of the Archive had to be specially programmed to accommodate Super Jeopardy! , and so now we're going to have a lot of co...

Re: Friday, November 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"Liquor" BMSes to volume? Why not, and what else to do? It would be hard to justify deeming "liquor" wrong. Technically, a more helpful prompt would have been "be more general", but that would have given away too much. A peck of liquor? Not normal usage, but there's no reason a volume measure could...

Re: Friday, November 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got Regency after a bit. Not sure but they might’ve buzzed me. Weak clue for FJ! Clearly Japan is one country and Russia is a fairly straight shot. No magic there. No pizazz! I appreciate the harder material and intensity of play in the tournaments, but I’m glad this one is over. Next! Born yeste...

Re: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'd like to second Alex's recommendation of My Favorite Year to everyone who hasn't seen it. (And judging by the Fourth Podium poll, that's a lot of you.) One of the great underrated comedies of all-time, with an utterly fantastic performance from Peter O'Toole. Could not believe this was a TS. Dit...

Re: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought they were looking for a food belt because of a reference to a literal belt expansion and for some reason, thought first of the Jello Belt (Mormons). I could not dig myself out of this hole. If it takes longer than two seconds to parse the clue, it's a stinker in my book. Totally agree. Aw...
