Re: Hey, somebody has a new novel out!

I will have to give Dead Sand a try. Now that Sue Grafton is gone, I need a new series to read...and if it's a series, I just find it better to start at the beginning.

Re: Thursday, April 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I want to see how James handles an obscure category like "12th Century Russian Art"...and has there been an Opera category during his run?

Re: Tuesday, April 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

James was absolutely on fire in Tuesday night's game. Impressive performance once again. I felt really bad for Katie...just imagining myself in her position after waiting a very long time to finally get on the show only to be up against a human machine...then not getting to ring in on that final clu...

Re: Tuesday, April 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

James is simply awesome. Once he gets on a roll, he just overwhelms his challengers with his deep knowledge base, knocking off the high-dollar clues with little effort and leaving less-valued clues for his opponents that don't amount to much. Certainly has the potential for a long run. I can't repea...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

I made a costly error on MD11, putting Holy Roman Empire instead of just Roman Empire, and lost (2)2-4(4). Had I just put Roman Empire, it would have resulted in a tie. After winning 5 in a row, I have now lost three straight in Taiga D Division 1.

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer

This is a stunning development. Pancreatic cancer is among the worst types because one often isn't even aware they have it until the disease is well into its latter stages. My late brother-in-law succumbed to pancreatic cancer within 35 days of diagnosis. I hope Alex has a better outcome and can, in...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

On MD5, I racked up a Dolly Parton with a 9(5)-4(4) win; the one question I missed, the river question, my opponent surprisingly awarded me 0 points. This is only the third time in all of my LL seasons that I answered 5 questions correctly in one day. At 2-3 on the season, I am still just 2 points o...

Re: Tuesday, February 26, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Am I alone in finding the pace of the shows excruciatingly slow? What I would really like to see for a team game would be something like duplicate bridge - Let one player from each team play the whole game. The next game, let a different player from each team play exactly the same board. We would l...

Re: Tuesday, January 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I haven't been keeping up with it...but is there any way John can make the next TOC? He was a great contestant and would add a deep knowledge field to that competition among the elite? John waited just a little too long to start his charge, which he did without any DD today as opposed to previous da...

I joined the Rock and Roll mini...and thought I knew a lot about the genre but these questions are hard! I am learning a lot, though, which is always a good thing.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I finished LL79 in 4th place in Taiga E Division 1, earning a second promotion (by 1 point) to D rundle for LL80.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

This is my 13th LL season...but for the first time ever, I sit at the top of a rundle after a 6(4)-1(1) opening day win for LL79. I know it won't last...but seeing my name at the top of the list...and seeing my flag represented on the main page for rundle leaders after the first day...feels great. T...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

After working my way briefly into the promotion zone in Taiga E Division 1, a slow fade resulted in a 6th place finish, despite finishing fourth in Total Match Points and Total Correct Answers, which were both personal records. And the final ignominy was losing on MD25 2(1)-3(1). I will stay where I...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

After a rocky start to the season, things have turned around for me and after a 5(3)-1(2) victory on MD18, I am now 9-4-5 and jumped 3 spots into the promotion zone in Taiga E Div 1, with seven matches left in the season. Things are getting exciting, for sure.

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

I am having an odd LL season. Tied for fourth in TCA in my rundle...sixth in TMP...but yet, stuck in 14th place with a 1-2-4 record, and having three consecutive ties after a 2(3)-2(3) tie on MD7. I've had ties in 4 of my last 5 matches.

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

It took 4 days, but I finally stepped into the winner's circle with a 6(3)-4(2) win on MD4. I am embarrassed to admit that although I teach college mathematics, I missed the math question! So did my opponent, whose highest correct answer percentage was in math. We both assigned each other 0 points f...

I started LL77 with a 4(3)-4(3) tie. I got 3 points for Michigan Tech on the hockey question; I gave my opponent 3 points for Go, Dog, Go!.

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

What happened to DOtt???? This is one of the few seasons in my (albeit short) LL career they are not in my rundle. We had a pretty good rivalry going. Don't recognize many of the people in my grouping this time around.
