Re: Wednesday, February 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The math portion of my brain went mushy went I was trying to calculate my wager in FJ. Mushy or not, you made a cromulent wager IMO. Congratulations on getting a little bit of that crucial Jeopardy luck to extend your run via an overly-aggressive 2nd place wager. In many markets, my own experience ...

Re: Friday, February 1, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

According to this page- https://www.bookbrowse.com/authors/author_pronunciations/detail/index.cfm/author_number/321/isabel-allende the l sound is not pronounced at all. Sean voiced the l and then added the accurate vowel sound. Seems forgivable to me. Ahhh, I hadn't thought of it quite like that - ...

Re: Friday, February 1, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Elton John is the man whose record Billy Joel broke for most lifetime concert appearances at Madison Square Garden. Before that, it was the Grateful Dead. And it still blows my mind that he has sold out those MSG shows every single month for the past five years! When was his last original album rel...

Re: Tuesday, January 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't like this FJ clue because it is purely a YEKIOYD, and zero TOM to get you there. Give Nino credit for some game guesses. How did he resist putting up WTF, both as a guess and an emotion ;). I think the writers were throwing a bone to the nursing home demographic, who probably haven't got an...

Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

Four players have been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America: closer Mariano Rivera, designated hitter Edgar Martinez, and starting pitchers Roy Halladay and Mike Mussina. Martinez was elected in his final year on the writers' ballot. From wher...

Re: Monday, January 14, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Alex’s opening was about the difference for a champ continuing through the week or coming back on a Monday. Anneke started off the new taping day well. I was impressed by this question out of Alex today. Andy, was today's show a fresh taping week or the second day of taping? i.e. I wonder if these ...

I have a super-slim chance of promotion...
and screwed up a question (in a low %age category for me) by not reading closely enough.

arrrgh!

Re: Tuesday, December 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I found the word segment sufficiently distracting that I wasted many seconds pondering linear objects (arches, bridges...) before refocusing on the era and the glaring "four pieces" hint.

It's close, but I'm calling this one an embarrassing miss.

Re: Friday, November 30, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Do the CCs tell the contestants anything about how to say the category names? I think I remember someone on the board saying that it's full name first time, shorten it thereafter. No, but they do tell you not to say "same category." I remember both of those from my auditions: full category name fir...

Re: Friday, November 23, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My only saving grace was the pair of particularly infamous/famous events:
  • 1972 hostages in Munich
  • 1976 first perfect 10 in Montreal
(which is undoubtedly part of why the writers liked this question too - lots of ways in beyond just rote knowledge of all Olympic dates and places)

Re: Should the Teen Tournament Winner Get a TOC Invite?

For entertainment purposes, it might make a better game with a natural underdog to root for. But what do we if a boardie (RobW) plays against an adorable teenager? Oh you cheer for the underdog, no question! (I submitted a yes for this poll, but I'd say the same even without my vested interest... l...

Re: Who Wants to be a Millionaire before Jeopardy

I feel fortunate that Jeopardy wasn't my first show - being on Millionaire (back in '09) definitely helped with the confidence and comfort that are so important for the (IMO) MUCH higher pressure of Jeopardy. You were on Weakest Link too, right? What was that like compared to the other two? Yes, TW...

Re: Who Wants to be a Millionaire before Jeopardy

To answer your question, it's just how the cookie crumbles. It's really hard to get on either show, so you should try for each one constantly, and when your big break comes, go for it. I can't see any advantage to having gone on one before the other. Agreed. I'd also suggest that getting on show #1...

Re: Wednesday, October 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So would Leningrad be counted wrong? I wondered the same, because that's also what my hypothetical light pen would've written down... Like Julie, I got the Eagles for a 4/4 finish but would've loved to see that bottom box. My guess would be a clue about Duff's excellent (seriously!) autobiography .

"Stare decisis means that this, a past decision in a given area of law, should be respected." Alan simply translated the Latin, and was ruled correct. I'm not thrilled by this, since it doesn't really fit the clue, but it was probably (?) consistent with J!...err, precedent. That ruling seemed awfu...
