Re: Monday, July 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Shocked by the Vonnegut TS on Slaughterhouse-Five. It's easily his most famous novel and the opening line references the plot device. I was surprised it was even in the bottom row. Maybe that's what threw off the contestants? Didn't really land on an answer for FJ. Thought of Victora Falls but also ...

Re: Friday, July 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Had no hope on FJ. I got stuck in New England and settled on New Hampshire with very little confidence. If I remember correctly, NH was the first state to have two women in the US Senate and a female governor at the same time.

Re: 2019 TOC Updates

I don't like this. It feels contrary to the spirit of the tournament. I liked Emma and I guess the argument is that she should get some extra credit for beating James, but I don't think I buy it. This is favoritism and someone is going to get left out who earned that place.

Re: Season 36 Changes & Predictions

I have been wondering if they might make some rule changes to counter the analytic approach to the show. The easiest one I can think of would be to truly randomize Daily Doubles so that they could legitimately be under any box in any category, making it impossible to hunt them. I'm not saying they s...

Thanks for running the game, clt013! My apologies for the delayed acknowledgement, I've had a crazy month and forgot I even entered this one.

Re: Monday, May 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

In case anyone else was wondering, James's Daily Double wager of $10,617 was in honor of the date of the first game, and first win, in the history of the Vegas Golden Knights, October 6, 2017.

I don't know what a "pulp magazine" is, but I think I would have gotten this one.
Pulp magazines were cheaply printed magazines that ran short stories with lurid illustrations. They were usually associated with a specific genre, like mystery or sci-fi.

Re: Wednesday, April 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I ran the "Minute" and Snake/Bird/Monkey categories, got all but the bottom in Car Talk and Smorgasword, but I was 0/5 in Roman Names and Gross Confessions. TV was tough. I know a few things about MTM, but "Laura Petrie" is not one of them. That clue seemed rather generational for the top box. Didn...

Re: Tuesday, April 23, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

$1,155,000 for 15 games is $77,000 average. With $1,061,554 banked that has James needing $93,446 (and a win) tomorrow to hit the magical average. To even mention such hypotheticals would have seemed insane prior to James hitting the stage. I appreciate that you allowed for the possibility that Jam...

44/50. Should've been 45 but I thought it was Hainesberry instead of Hansberry. Even dumber was saying Hudson instead of East River.

Instaget FJ for me. I've read the collection in question as well as all the Poirot novels.

I was disappointed by how easy they made the "They Adapted My Book." All of those were airport novels.

Steven may regret saying the Smorgasbordello was his kind of place, considering we know he is married.

Re: Monday, March 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Looks like I'll be in the minority not checking the box for this FJ. I never got anywhere close. I associate "Ancient" too strongly with Greece and Rome. I wound up with The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, which I know wouldn't be it. I wonder if strategically, Ken or Brad thought about trying to av...

Re: Friday, March 1, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The wildcard match turned out to be something of a letdown with no correct FJ answers in either game. When the clue popped up tonight I was surprised they went with something so easy with so much on the line. I never would have guessed it would be a TS. It would have been great to see Alex, Brad, an...

Re: Friday, February 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It's a tough FJ because Goldman isn't as famous as the major suffragettes, but anyone who has read E.L. Doctorow's Ragtime should have gotten it pretty quickly. At least, that's what worked for me. Watching Alex consistently beat Brad on the buzzer was absolutely thrilling. No offense to Brad, but i...

Re: Adult Online Test: Apr 9, 10, 11

I guess I've been spoiled, but I'm a little annoyed that neither NYC or Philadelphia are audition cities. I've been on three previous auditions and they've all been in Manhattan. I hope they're not tired of people from my area being on the show.
