Re: Monday, March 28, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

When he hit the last DD, the scores were as follows: Doug: $9,600 Ken: $9,400 Erin: $16,400 The DD was under Swamped for $1,600. He had already gotten the first two clues played correct in the category. (Though White Nile was probably a lucky rebound). There were eight clues remaining. Left on the ...

Re: Monday, March 28, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

He then did the obvious on the 2nd DD, but when it came time to make the really important decision on the 3rd, he just couldn't pull the trigger. By the way, it takes the same guts to make a $5 wager as it does a $9k wager. It can be tough doing that under the lights, especially during the middle-t...

Re: Thursday, March 24, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was really thrown by that interview with me! I didn't expect it to be so hostile (I also didn't expect it to be about my research). I was very surprised by Alex's behaviour there, especially the sotto voce addition of "just wanted to get that out there". He really did get political in a way that'...

Re: Thursday, March 24, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

FJ was well-written. I don't see many movies, but I really liked Val Kilmer in Tombstone , so I was well-qualified to be this clue's huckleberry. Yeah, all of the necessary ingredients were there. This is at least the fourth huckleberry reference I've gotten, but I've never seen Tombstone ! When we...

Re: Thursday, March 24, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Sorry to hear you were incapacitated, Vivek! The second-guessing fades over time. I definitely kicked myself over things I thought I knew but was too chicken to ring in on. I meant to bet a lot bigger on DDs before I got on stage too, but those lights do strange things to you. The lights and being ...

Re: Thursday, March 24, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

The TRIPLE RHYME TIME category seemed rough to process in real time. I ran the category, but I'm not sure how I'd have done in a buzzer race under the lights. I suspect by the time I'd gotten to the third item in the list, I'd have forgotten what the first thing was. It was surprisingly hard. I had...

Re: Thursday, March 24, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Excellent game by DefCon4, sorry he couldn't pull it out at the end. It sort of felt like an reverse Slam's Rule. He was posting regularly here until his taping, then stopped. Unfortunately, I hurt my back almost immediately after returning from LA. It's a long story, but until this week I couldn't...

Re: Friday, January 29, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Many people found the wording of the clue difficult to parse. To me, it pretty clearly was spoken/written by someone who was considering supporting the Brits, but wanted to make sure they would be taken care of financially. Since they were considering it, they weren't already committed to it, so it...

Congrats to Chris (of course), but everyone played extremely well. I could feel Mara's pain during the Final camera sweep. Re: Thursday, January 28, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Fred still has a pretty decent shot at making the TOC, although it's not assured. I do hope he makes it; he has a good knowledge base, is fun to watch, and his wagering peccadilloes are easily fixable. Agreed; Fred's wins despite his wagering weakness are a testament to the positions he was able to...

Re: What was your online test score with an audition

For as long as I've been thinking about this issue, I've kind of assumed that one reason why TPTB don't publicize a cutoff score is so that they can raise it or lower it when it is useful to do so. Unusually hard online test one year? Take some 34's (or, you know, whatever n -1 actually is). Surpri...

I don't remember my exact scores, but the two times I have taken the test I scored in the same range (near 45). The first time, I didn't get an audition, while the second time I did.

Conversely, maybe it's just me, but I thought "Man on the Flying Trapeze" was somewhat undervalued at $200. I can't be the only one here who had NHO that 1868 song, can I? "Man on the Flying Trapeze" came to me immediately, but I was *sure* that I was forgetting a word prior to "man." It took me th...
