So what did I miss in that empress clue that pointed to Japan?
Japan has an empress.
Give it a few days, that will change.

Re: Sony Reportedly Searching For Alex's Replacement

I have said this before, but they should give players a free hotel room while they are taping. They could work out a sponsorship deal with a hotel with some sort of on air mention like "Contestants on Jeopardy stay at...". And also provide a shuttle to and from the studio. I think they pick you up i...

Re: Friday, April 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For FJ Henry was a gimme with the famous Henry VIII, and then Edward and George were from the 20th century - one needed to start with the most recent kings after getting the gimme. English monarchs are something you need to know if you get the call. They do delve into the pre-1066 ones occasionally...

Re: My pitch for the final megatournament; also posted via Reddit

I have always suspected TPTB had some sort of mega-TOC planned (the concept, not necessarily written down) for when Alex retires. His uncertain health issues have probably changed that.

Re: Friday, April 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Players have gotten over $10,000 against James. I think a TOCer can match that.

FJ was a little clunky to read though, but I got all three names with time to spare.

I was thinking he was off his game today, but he still broke Roger’s record.

Re: Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I do miss the days of a player being retired after five days. It kept them from becoming a social media phenom (if that had existed then).

As one who was born on June 13, I loved his FJ bet, along with his grandmother tribute.

Amazing a FJ bet of over $60,000 doesn’t even phase Alex anymore.

Re: Wednesday, April 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I haven’t visited that website, but this is the strangest game thread I have ever read on here. I don’t know what his past involves or what his connection to that site is. But if Pete Rose can be kicked out of baseball, James can be kicked out of the TOC. I would imagine there is language in the con...

Re: Tuesday, April 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Just wanted to bump the thread to say I missed FJ with nuclear reaction. Seriously, what a game. I knew this was coming, but it was still fun to watch. Trying to get caught up on my viewings so I can see him “live” next week. And he hasn’t been beating Subarus. I think Sameer could have pulled off a...

Re: Thursday, April 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Just now getting to this game. I had fallen behind and have been trying to catch up but lost about a dozen games in the great reddit purge. Amazing performance. I wonder how much he could have won if the champ hadn’t been such a strong player. Mark beat me to it, but I hope he didn’t put too much on...

Re: Sony Reportedly Searching For Alex's Replacement

I think Anderson Cooper would be a good choice. He has a news background, so that gives him an appearance of being intellectual. He also doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously, much like Alex. He is 51 (ten days older than me), so he is young enough to put in a good 20 years or so at the helm. H...

I finished in 89th in the VP quiz. I would have been 47th if he had taken Bensten for Bentsen.

I noticed someone on youtube that had an account with all of February's episodes up had all their videos deleted. I will miss the reddit guy, I just wonder what took Sony so long.

Re: Thursday, March 14, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was hoping someone could explain a point of strategy to me. In countless matches, the contestant with the most money bets just enough to win by a dollar. This is usually calculated by doubling the closest contestant's score and betting enough to win, as I indicated, by a dollar. If the leader mis...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

I missed the gender transitions of the Wachowski Sisters ... I couldn't come up with anything reasonable as a guess and said 'Saw'. I think it is great that Thorsten didn't clue about the transition at all - just a straightforward knowledge of their current names and 'film trilogy'. However, I thou...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

So my opponent’s best category is math and lives in Washington. Makes for two easy defensive decisions. So naturally she misses both. Luckily, I got three for heifer to escape with a 3(1)-2(1) victory. Clinging to a one point lead for the final promotion spot. Unfortunately, my next two matches are ...

Re: reddit jeopardy done?

Ugh. I have been behind on my viewing all season. I am currently up to February 7. I do have it record on my DVR, but it is only set to keep the previous ten episodes. I did watch the team tourney, but it still leaves eleven episodes I will miss. :(

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

A bet that requires the other person to make a logical bet is a recipe for disaster. I would make the standard one dollar shutout bet every time. I can see betting zero from the lead if you hated the category. But then you are counting on the others also sucking at the subject. And in this case, wha...
