Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

From the beginning of LL82 to the end, there were some programming changes to reduce the amount of information that was available without logging in. For example, early in LL82 I was able to look at the daily rundle rankings, but I was no longer able to do that by the end. The biggest recent change...

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Catching up on my early season backlog. Just wanted to be seemingly the only one who said Jules Verne. At least he was alive in 1901. He was also a category on the old game Mark just archived I read right before watching the game. I got Wilson because his stroke and his wife taking over are pretty w...

On the slim one, was anyone actually familiar with any names besides Slim Whitman?
Not a one.
I wasn’t, but the name seemed to fit for a blues singer.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

How could the Merrimack question have been the hardest? What did people answer for that, since Merrimack was already in the clue? I knew this one cold and moneyed it. Unfortunately I put down Alabama. Not sure why I was thinking of Alabama instead of Virginia, but I did. "The Who Sell Out" was defi...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Two Alabama related questions in one day. Cool. I got Rushmore right, thanks in part to the old commercial where Teddy’s head falls off and lands on a car. I don’t live anywhere near Dothan and never heard of the station. I lost the coin flip on Washington and Carver. My opponent gave me three point...

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer

While his health is everyone’s main concern, does anyone know if this will interrupt the taping schedule?

Sorry to hear the chemo has been rough, harrumph. Keep fighting.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I guessed wrong, but I don’t think it was that obscure. The list of First Ladies (as of 1991) who could possibly have been born in 1925 is fairly short. New York eliminates Lady Bird and Carter, as their husbands are strongly associated with other states. Nixon, Ford, and Reagan all had California o...

Joe Niekro’s only career home run was off Phil.

They did not like facing each other and tried to avoid it if possible.

I am just glad my local CBS affiliate ended their urinating contest with my satellite company just in time for football season so I can watch Jeopardy again.

I wonder what percentage of people here watch any of the summer reruns. For me, it's a 6-week break and 30 extra minutes of free time every weekday.
I would be more apt to watch if they showed five game runs of champs from the early seasons.

Re: Holzhauer betting for 2nd in the TOC to make more money?

They probably don’t say the winner gets more than 250K because it has never occurred to them it is possible. I don’t see him averaging $125,000 in two games against high caliber players. Especially if this scenario involves Clavining FJ one day.

Re: Thursday, July 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Do you have any data on anybody not betting it all from second in this scenario? It blows my mind that anybody would do that. http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=4557 Here is one such example. This was in the co-champs era with very simple math involved. The urinating contest between Dire...

Re: JBoard Demographic Survey

When this poll was first posted, there were no respondents in the 70+ bracket. I am now over 70, and I would not be surprised if a few other boardies are, as well. I hope so, anyway. Being the oldest person in the room is not something I relish. It has been over five years so I would imagine you ar...

What was wrong with Hannah’s wager? Her score was lower than Ryan’s MSBIW score, so she had to improve her score to win. Yes, she could have bet differently and accomplished the same goal, but I don’t think it was a horrible bet. Much better than zero. ...but she did bet zero. She had to improve he...

Re: Monday, July 8, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This game's FJ was a major trap for a younger player with a crush lead over an older player. Expo '67 was well known at the time but the reference window for it has long closed. Good knowledge on the champ's part to get it. I was born in 1967 so maybe that helped it be an instaget. I am having to p...
