Re: Friday, January 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had no clue on FJ!. Gertrude Stein wouldn't leave my mind despite my repeatedly telling her that she's long dead. According to poets.org, GS died in 1946 But she'd be 145 right now, so that's like two people in their 70's. :) If there were two of her that would explain the 20-22 hours a day of wr...

Thought Sect. of State was obvious. I went hunting for the second. AG never occurred to me, although it probably would have if I had more time to think about it. Went with Education based on the current office holder. Similarly for me, State was an instaget and I struggled to find the second one. I...

I say don't let them be in any more tournaments (they've won enough), but if they want to continue to trade on their J! notoriety they might offer themselves to stand at stud to produce the next generation of greats.

Just a thought...
That is coffee-on-the-keyboard funny - thanks for the laugh.

My wild, stab in the dark guess for final was Denmark. Geography is not my strongest subject. My thinking was Denmark > Greenland > wild guess.
Not all that wild - I had the same thought process.

Re: Friday, January 10, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had "fog-e-y" for the four-letter F-word for an old person - and, looking it up, that's the more common spelling, no? Would have been nice to reference that in the clue. I'm half-kidding here, but my secondary answer was "fart". I mean, an "old fart" is a stodgy old gentleman, isn't it? You don't...

Knew that the FJ was Pavlovian for something but apparently that pathway in my brain has not been solidified yet. It didn't help that The Thomas Crown Affair kept running through my head.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 1 (1/7/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I missed the first couple minutes so maybe this was addressed at the top of the show, but what was the deal with the retro look of the clue board? I can't say I was a fan of that.

Since we saw him standing inside the floor in his house... Is there any home improvement project you decided was beyond your abilities and paid someone to do because you felt you couldn't? Yes that's a good one! I was trying to think of something home improvement related. That was one thing I actua...

Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues

Not a final, but since this is where we are putting our homemade questions. This one is dumb, but it came to mind and I was hoping to find a way to word it so it might not be so dumb? Coastline makes up the highest percentage of what US state's border? Hawaii - 100% is coastline :D there may be no ...

Protests for $800:
In 1932 Jaya Narayan was jailed in India for protesting British rule in this 2-word nonviolent way
Accepted response was Civil Disobedience, but is there any reason I shouldn't credit myself for Passive Resistance?

I knew exactly what the clue wanted, but just couldn't pull Swanson tonight.
Same. Considered and discarded Butterball, ended up going with Stouffer's even though I was 95% sure it was wrong.

Re: Friday, December 27, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought there were two rather sloppy mistakes on today’s show. First, they had the misspelling ‘INDIESPENSABLE’ in one of the clues. Then in the -TED category, Alex said the correct answer would not have the letters T, E, D. The first answer turned up was ‘ten’, from ‘tented’. Alex’s explanation ...

Tally up another FJ! response of Haiti. Tally up another expectation for a reversal on bar. Did anyone else notice an odd timing issue when contestant Alex was responding to a clue? He rang in, the camera framed him and there was a lengthy pause as his timing lights started extinguishing before host...

Ugh, definitely should have gotten FJ. I've heard of the organization and its myriad illuminaries but wasn't aware of its founding so that cluttered things for me. I ended up going with American Bar Association just to have something although the Nobel Laureate tally did not jibe (oh, and off by a c...

CHRISTMAS SONGS This person recorded a demo of his Christmas song at the St. Regis hotel in New York City in 1971; 9 years later, within two miles of the hotel, he made national news. The publisher said searches for the definition of “they” on its website and apps increased by more than 300 ...

Topps baseball cards as a bottom row clue? Seemed to easy, but I didn't clam, and was rewarded. I was worried that the other two might be another sport, since I vaguely knew Topps made cards for other sports. Turns out the other two groups did/do, as well. NHO Bowman or Panini America, but apparent...

Another one for Kroc, even with my discomfort of it not fitting the category. Spent too much time considering Wendy's, Arby's, Jack in the Box, etc. Somewhere I think I have two or three brain cells that know there were actual McDonald brothers but they were drowned out by my internal noise.
