Re: TPH's FJ! analysis

If your skills and recall are good in regular play, then definitely lean into DDs and try to get a lock or crush by final. That's not likely for anyone, however, so I can't stress enough how important proper wagering in final will be. I knew going into my games that I get FJ correct about 70 percent...

Re: 2019 ToC Predictions & Comments

This is great, thanks for putting this together, Mark. Another factor to consider when making predictions is a player's endurance: if their last game was taped later in the day and their numbers were way worse on that game, then it may be worth calculating their averages without that game in the mix...

Surprised This Machine Kills Fascists was a TS. FWIW, I was 80% sure that was the correct response, but if was wrong I would have dropped to 31200, giving Christina a chance to get it and rise to 15600, taking away the runaway chance. It just wasn't worth that risk. Wow! That is some clutch analysi...

The great thing about this is that they all bet correctly. (The two challengers could have also bet $0, but going all in is fine too).

"Blah blah Australian + animal" = kangaroos, right? Wrong. NEGBAIT. You should actually read the clue even when you think you see a Pavlov. Dude was crossing the Australian desert and wishing he had something other than a horse. I don't think kangaroos have ever been beasts of burden (except to the...

Re: Wednesday, July 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My plan going in was to do whatever it takes to get the lead, by being quick but cautious on the buzzer, hunting for daily doubles, and betting medium to big when I find them. I'd say it worked. :) I was wondering if you might be one of the first contestants to play after James Holzhauer's games be...

Re: Wednesday, July 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Hey all, Sam here! I want to congratulate Ryan and Margaret for a great game, based on all of our interactions I think that I was probably the third most knowledgeable person up there. My plan going in was to do whatever it takes to get the lead, by being quick but cautious on the buzzer, hunting fo...

Re: Boardies on the Show S36

I'm not on next season, but I AM on tonight's game! I auditioned way back in August of 2017 in Chicago, and didn't get the call until the beginning of March 2019 (more than the supposed 18 month cut-off). In any case, it was a fantastic experience, and I hope y'all are entertained!

The way this show consistently ignores the ‘okina in the Hawai’ian language is sloppy and frustrating. The words lanai and Lana’i are different words! Are you willing to give a brief rundown of the difference? That sounds interesting. Ok... background: Some of the earliest “Westerners” to arrive in...

Wrote down Clinton and Albright, but verbally changed it to Albright and Rice at the last second, so I won't count it.

For what it's worth, my mum died this year after fighting multiple myeloma for 15 years, and it was always referred to as cancer of the bone marrow, both my her oncologists and the MMRF. HOWEVER, both leukemia and myeloma develop from mutations in the marrow and are present in the blood, so any reas...

Also, I was so close on getting my first 5 outta 5, missing the Dreyfus question. The funny thing was, I had just read up on that affair and could picture his face, but for some reason my brain couldn't get past "Disraeli". Oh well.

Even though it's been almost 12 years since I read Dante's Inferno , I was sure that I would get the correct response, because here are the only things that I suspect J! would ask about: 1. Limbo 2. One of the Seven Deadly Sins and/or its punishment (with plenty of clues keying you in) 3. Some other...

Re: Thursday, July 7, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I thought the Clark clue was pretty unfair. It was pretty much designed to be a coin-flip guess for the first contestant bold enough to ring in. I don't think knowing whether Lewis or Clark was a better speller is within the accepted range of a trivia contest. What's next, do I need to know if Marx...
