Re: FJs for the 5/14/18 week

Finished an uninspiring 50% for the tournament. Also been a while since I missed a FJ that polled over 90%. Oh well.

Damn, wish I had read this topic before replying to the OP quoting my post in another thread. Would have known it was a hypocritical, rude troll instead of someone to respond to seriously.

Re: Friday, May 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

It's like Claire wasn't even playing to win the tournament. That's the impression I gathered, too. Claire's two DD wagers seemed to indicate that she was only battling for 2nd. First DD was either a $5 bet if she had low confidence in the category or all-in otherwise, and the second DD was a mandat...

Re: Thursday, May 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

You know Google could have dispelled this erroneous notion of yours in about ten seconds. Pretty sad first post. Out of curiosity, if it had not been his first post would you still have been as mean-spirited? Probably. I just don't understand why people can't be troubled to fact check. I'm with Kir...

Re: Millionaire 2017-18 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

Why is Holden Caulfield not correct? He tells the story in a hospital(ish place) in SoCal. That's certainly much closer than Kansas. I have no idea and when playing I thought he was NY. Who can find Rachel Lane and see if she has done anything about it? Or can someone figure out why perhaps HC is n...

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

Just got my invitation for Cleveland, also June 28!!! My last audition was 2006, the first year of the online quiz era. I've taken every online contestant quiz in the past decade and passed most of them without a nibble. My wife and I are so stoked about this, that words fail me. Hope to see some o...

Re: Thursday, May 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Alex's "I got this one quickly!" and the insinuation that it was relatively simple was one of the funniest, most misguided observations I've ever heard from him, and there have been some howlers. I agree with others that this was very, very difficult. Possibly one of the absolute hardest all year. I...

If I'm running the carnival age/weight/birth date game and I have to be within 2 +/- I would go with 24 to cover 22-26 and be surprised not to have the right age range.
Yeah, I agree. My guess was 25.

Re: Millionaire 2017-18 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

How does one not read Catcher in the Rye at some point? And why would you guess instead of using a lifeline if that's the case? After the first contestant I was ready to post something snarky about not using lifelines...and then the next one gets screwed by ATA. YIKES!!! Did they misread the questio...

Re: Wednesday, May 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Larry was arguably the most impressive player in the quarters and arguably now in the semis, too. I thought it was probably the easiest FJ of the tournament, moreso even than the UN language from a day prior. And yet, it went 1/3 and plenty of fine trivia minds missed it on this board. Should be an ...

Re: Tuesday, May 15, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Strong, exciting game between Rachel and Claire. Rachel's Coryat was higher by $200, but Claire was ahead by $100 since she beat $3k on her DD while Rachel bet $2.5k.

Possibly the easiest FJ of the tournament for a slightly anticlimactic finish.

Re: Monday, May 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Charleston just never crossed my mind on FJ. I doubt many people knew this one cold, I knew it cold and so did my mother, having read the book. In fact, related to MarkBarrett's post, it's a very easy FJ if you've read the book and quite a difficult one if you haven't. Edda wasn't a stumper?!? Lede...

Re: Monday, May 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I agree completely with Alex. That was not a difficult FJ. Given the solid play from both Steve and Erika, I'm surprised they both missed it. I responded "bookmakers" for "oddsmakers" -- judges? I would not accept this, and BigDaddyMatty is wrong that they're "synonymous". Oddsmakers set the lines f...

But whereas I can understand someone who is not into movies struggling with that one, Dan has no one to blame but himself for missing the $7k question. Even if he is bad pop culture (although I'm shaky on it and knew Rihanna was from Barbados), it is either foolhardy or lazy not to look up all the ...

Then again, so is pretending that any US politicians has "basically" chanted "Death to Iran". Just another bald-faced lie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-zoPgv_nYg Video is from 2007.
