Re: TD387 - morbeedo's Revenge - Q9 Results

9. PARKS AND RECREATION Name a U.S. state that does not have a national park. Note: the National Park designation does not include national monuments, preserves, historic areas or other federally recognized sites I'm curious if my esteemed boardmates knew for a fact that these states do not have an...

Re: Monday, July 2, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Keely Smith/Louis Prima seems like a very obscure pairing unless you're over 70 years old. Curious if anyone here got this right. (raises hand) He's a big deal where I'm from, because we have a large Italian-American population and one of his ex-wives used to live in the county until her death. Our...

Same. It hasn't shown up on Jeopardy in a little while, but when it did, it was frequent: http://www.j-archive.com/search.php?sea ... mit=Search

I got 4 out of the 5 hardest questions correct, missing only Joan of Arc, but only moneyed on Purdue. That dropped my percentile from 97 to 75. Moneying properly matters.

Re: TD 386 - CLASSIC AREA CODES 9xx (NOW OPEN)

Finally, many thanks to badgerfellow for inspiring this TD ring https://i.imgur.com/4NC9qhO.png Um, you're welcome? I didn't even think of it as a full TD game, let alone 8, but just a category within a TD ("Name the state with this area code."). Nonetheless, it turned out to be a fun set of TDs th...

As a Kansas Jayhawks alumnus, I can confidently say that our football teams are not legendary  agreed...should have been basketball...kansas state is more notable when it comes to american football than kansas is...btw...why do people refer to it as KU when the official name is university of k...

Re: TD 384 - A Millennial Medley (Final Standings)

I would just like to state for the record that I agree our world is (probably) going to hell and the lyrics category and commercialization is a microcosm of this - particularly in Top 40 music and especially in country music, but that's a story for another time. It should also be noted that pop (es...

Give credit to Amanda for writing something down just to have a response for FJ, but I can't say that I've ever heard of that one.

Um, yeah, I expect a lot of POd Kentuckians. Even hinting that Jack Daniel's is bourbon ignites them.

Re: TD 384 - A Millennial Medley (Standings Up Through Q3)

Dude, that is hopelessly pedantic. Of course he shouldn't be negged for leaving "the" off "The Nanny." I can't even find that short-lived "Nanny" in my Brooks and Marsh. Should someone also be neg for saying "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" when the correct title was simply "Mary Tyler Moore"? Some work...

badgerfellow (Nanny) I know what you were going for, but there was a short-lived TV show called “Nanny” in the ‘80s that necessitated the “The”. Feel free to debate this, but I don’t think I can accept it.
No objection here. I would do the same.

Re: Friday, June 15, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

This was an interesting Final Jeopardy clue. Most Catholic dioceses in the United States celebrate Ascension on Sunday (day 43) instead of the traditional Thursday (day 40). Still, Acts of the Apostles mentions the 40th day, so it shouldn't matter. Otherwise, how many other "holiday" islands can the...

Speaking of BWA...has Thorsten even announced any candidates this season? Is this something he is discontinuing or just putting on backburner due to other league issues that have come up?

You played beautifully. If I were the contestant, I would find this very patronizing and insulting. Well, a Coryat of 13600 is a heck of a lot higher than most contestants get, winning or not. Average in regular games is 10,701 as of today's stats: http://j-archive.com/miscstats.php?season=34 Also ...

Very lucky yesterday with what I will call a Buckner tie, 6(3)-6(5). Opponent only missed Neiman Marcus, while my opponent thought Webster would be hard enough for me to give me a 3. This leads to an interesting question. I Smithed the National Spelling Bee One Day in April. With that knowledge, mos...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

Ohio State used to be in the CCHA with Lake Superior St. and Michigan Tech. I'm glad that there were enough people who knew about these two colleges to keep it from being in the single digits. I thought Tech was WCHA? At least in the mid 2000s and maybe still since the Big Ten made their own confer...
